The Symbolism of Nine’s Fate.
Because a lot of people misunderstood it. Some people claimed that he got off too easy while others claim that he’s exactly where he was in the beginning, but Nine’s not. Far from it. In fact, he probably has the best fate of every counterpart of Tails. The ones who you should be pitying are Sails and Mangey.
Are we forgetting what the shatterspaces and Shattered characters are and how they were formed?
Tumblr media
Each world is a fraction of the original Green Hill.
Boscage Maze has too many plants because it represents the nature of Green Hill. Meanwhile New Yoke has few due to representing the technology of Green Hill.
The Grim has a lot of land and sand due to representing the deserts. Meanwhile No Place has very little land due to representing the oceans.
Tumblr media
They are filled with residents and It is also 1 counterpart for every shard, which is why There aren’t any Eggmans in No Place or Boscage since his counterparts ended up in the same location.
The Glowing was the counterparts being formed, which is why the Prime Characters faded away as they glowed.( Noticeably Prime Eggman and Sonic aren’t glowing due to them not being scattered properly like the others. )
Where am I going with this?
Tumblr media
Throughout the show, Nine serves as Sonic’s parallel and foil. So like Sonic’s fate is to go back to Green Hill and never see the Shatterverse or anyone inside those shatterspaces again, Nine’s fate is to stay inside the Grim, which is currently empty. Now this where fans get confused but But to quote Ever After High, The End is Just the Beginning.
Tumblr media
As Sonic’s parallel and foil, Nine’s fate is to eventually become in charge of his own group. Notice something? Tails (and everyone else) should have 5 counterparts but the Grim’s counterparts are unaccounted for. Why? Not only because it’s not complete yet but also because Nine still has a lot of growing up to do before he will be able to have any healthy relationships.
The only sad part is that his first friend is no longer around, but even then, they needed to be separated from each other. On Nine’s part, he gets very possessive and On both of their parts, they often don’t listen once they have an idea in their minds, especially during Part 3.
Tumblr media
The Ghosts that appeared in the Shatterverse were the Shattered characters after they were brought into the Shatterverse. The Shattered Characters tend to do the opposite of what they were supposed to do according to the quotes.
While Sonic is glowing somewhat, it’s not in the same way as the others were when they got shattered. Combined with how He didn’t completely disappear and break, It’s up to interpretation whether or not, he’ll have counterparts but I don’t think so.
Tumblr media
Regardless. Here’s why the ones who deserve your sympathies are Sails and Mangey. Notice Tails’s glowing that was him being scanned or something for the Counterparts?
There’s 5. Red for New Yoke, Yellow for Ghost Hill, Green for Boscage Maze, Blue for No Place and finally indigo or Violet for The Grim. Nine will be the only one that might have a chance of having a sibling. Whereas Sails and Mangey only have their friends, which is quite ironic considering Nine’s jealousy issues.
But at the same time, it’s fitting.
Tails’s quotes were the following “As long as I’m around, you’ll always have a Wingman” “Heh, Heh, I don’t need an army, when I’ve got a friend like you Sonic.”. “Nothing can break our friendship Sonic”.
Mangey is the first one. Therefore he doesn’t need a Sonic or Tails to obey his quote and he’s got his own group.
Sails is the second one. He is slightly more dependent upon Sonic and Tails’s relationship but he does still have friends. That’s likely the meaning behind Sails wearing a blue hat on his seemingly missing Ear that I can’t believe I didn’t notice earlier. The blue on Nine symbolizes Sonic and It’s probably the same for Sails. (His blue hat was probably him wondering where Sonic was.)
Nine is the final quote. His is entirely dependent on Sonic’s and Tails’s relationship. Nine wants to be Sonic, or at least I assume since he kept copying him. Tails definitely wants to be like Sonic since they are friends. So as such, Nine NEEDS a Sonic or Tails in his life to feel complete and obey the quote.

Things that you don’t realize until rewatch Sonic Prime at least 5 times.
Nine shaking New Yoke City was meant to be a parallel to how Sonic made the earthquake, Shadow yelled at Sonic, and Sonic’s reaction.
The irony of Nine’s writing is that he wants to be his own person yet he has more parallels to other characters than everyone else. (Sonic, Rusty, Tails, Shadow, Dread, Eggman and The Chaos Council, Mangey, Gnarly. Thorn.)
The Chaos Council likely still has their portals open, meaning That everyone except Sonic and Nine can continue interacting with each other.
Despite also making connections between Nine and Prime Eggman and connections between The shattered characters and their prime counterparts, Sonic insisted Nine is nothing like The Chaos Council, not just out of Love and loyalty, but also because until Grim Tidings, Nine was the one who always had the most amount of faith in Sonic so Sonic wanted to return the favor.
Nine reminding Sonic that The Chaos Council were the ones who started the decaying was meant to be an ironic echo to how Sonic told Shadow that Eggman was the villain instead of him.
Nine accusing Sonic of sending everyone to the Grim to attack him and Sonic seemingly going along with the others plan was meant to be a parallel to how Nine was framed for sending Chaos Sonic.
The reason why everyone had to stop fighting and Sonic had to explain to Nine that their homes were getting destroyed, in order for Nine to start seeing them as victims instead of just Competition for Sonic’s attention or Opponents is because Nine wants to have Sonic’s life and be him, and before the prism broke, Sonic was highly reckless with very little to no remorse unless it was a friend that got hurt.
Sonic witnessed all of Mangey’s firsts. (First steps, first word, first flight, first science.)
The No Place Variants, with the possible exception of Dread, are meant to be a blend of The New Yoke Group and the Boscage Maze group.
The Roses became kinder as they spent more time together because it was like being whole again.
Following on that, Despite the parallels between the Roses and the foxes, Nine wasn’t allowed to bond with Sails or Mangey because he is Tails’s desire to be like Sonic and being with them would be Too much Tails, not enough Sonic.
When Sonic gave up his energy, it was the only time that anyone gave up energy, knowing exactly what might happen and what it would be used for.
Many of the Sonic’s reformed villains were based on to paraphrase an exchange between Sonic and Scourge, “All it takes is One bad day and you would be just like me” “All it takes is a little bit of selflessness and a little bit of decency and you would be just like me.”

I don’t think Tails actually liked those Comic books. I suspect they are actually SONIC’S favorite comic books that he tried to make Tails like and Tails never informed Sonic that he didn’t like them to avoid hurting Sonic’s feelings. (Much like how Sonic was hoping Nine liked Chili dogs.)
Tails said that he couldn’t take a break because a break, wouldn’t solve the problem with Eggman. (Similar to how a Chili dog won’t help The Grim, neither would giving up the prism and The decaying wouldn’t stop until/unless Sonic loses his prism energy, which the others didn’t look or sound like they were going to let Nine have. )
Then Sonic apologizes, only caring about Tails. (Similar to how in the finale, Sonic apologizes to Nine, only caring about Nine’s feelings to the point where making Green Hill was Nine’s idea, rather than Sonic’s. )

What “I Hate Chili Dogs” really means.
I know that a lot of fans may have laughed and said it’s just to spite Sonic but it is an important quote. In fact, it’s crazy that People heard it and still look at Nine and say “He’s Tails if He Hadn’t met Sonic and/or was more Independent”. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
Nine was literally made out of Tails’s Love for Sonic and he’s Taken Tails’s admiration and dependance to the extreme.
Tumblr media
Nine has blue and yellow lines to represent Sonic + Tails. Nine was given the backstory of being bullied because that’s how Tails Met Sonic.
Unconsciously or not, Nine often copies Sonic. (Which is where the unintentional comparisons to Eggman came from. Sonic has some similarities to Eggman so when Nine copies Sonic, he came across as a copying Eggman.)
Nine’s battle/you ticked me off pose was meant to be reminiscent of Sonic’s own pose.
Both were disgusted by what the other wanted them to be like.
Both had a giant accident while trying to help, which led to characters vanishing. (Said characters even look identical and shut their eyes as they vanish.)
Both broke the prism despite being told to wait.
Both are cocky and don’t like listening to others.
Both wanted the other to move to their preferred place.
Both were the other’s morality pet.
Both considered their favorite place to be the best and they looked down on the other locations.
Both gave the other multiple chances to change their minds.
Both don’t like it when they get called a different species.
Both began collecting things that they don’t own and endangered others in an attempt to fix their accident.
Sonic projected the Prime Characters onto the shattered Characters whereas Nine decided to project Sonic and the other hypothetical friends onto the Grim Robots.
It wasn’t until the finale that either of them began verbally accepting responsibility for their actions that led to the destruction of everything.
I could provide more, but you get the idea. This is also why Nine is the only shattered character that has a somewhat similar flashback to one of Sonic’s.
Tumblr media
From Tails, Nine unconsciously knew Sonic was supposed to be there. It’s why they have the same passcode, 1992. For Tails, that was an important year because he met Sonic while Nine symbolically kept it to try to remind Sonic they are supposed to be friends.
However friends can’t be “All take, no Give.” Throughout the entire time, Sonic kept trying to encourage Nine to not just be like Tails, but also like himself.
He talked about sharing Chili Dogs, even though, Nine prefers juice and Tails likes Juice + Mint Candy.
While he did say “Just like the real Tails”, Sonic first mentioned himself. He also mentioned Nine being like him again later.
He told Nine to ignore Shadow even though Nine was interested in Shadow because He wanted Nine to copy his habit of ignoring/dismissing Shadow.
In general, Sonic attempts to encourage Nine to copy his habits.
He always tried to nudge Nine to help others.
When pleading with Nine, Sonic often focuses on what he wants.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back in Nine’s Lives, Sonic went along with the others plan. Then when Sonic tried making another deal, where Nine “Hands over the prism, joins them, save the Shatterverse and have Chili Dogs”.
The thing is, What does Nine get out of this stuff? This is all what SONIC likes.
Sonic is the one who would have the entire Paradox Prism unless the Chaos Council or Dread steals it.
The people in question don’t like Nine or The Grim. Nine doesn’t like being with others much in general.
A Chili Dog isn’t going to help The Grim or give Nine or the others an attitude adjustment.
So Nine screamed “I HATE CHILI DOGS” because in his eyes, Sonic was only vocally caring about himself and his wishes.
It’s the same story every other time that Sonic pleads.
The first time? Sonic first requested for Green Hill to be saved. Then he mentioned the shatterspaces. No mention of The Grim until around the end and even then, it was to criticize Nine.
The rest of the times, Sonic mentions the Shatterverse as a whole but not mentions of specifically helping The Grim or working on what Nine wants.
Tumblr media
During their reconciliation, for the first time, Sonic was acknowledging what Nine wanted and apologizing for not caring about it. Fittingly, Nine’s hair began going outwards, like it did back when he was supposed to meet Sonic.
Also For the first time, Sonic was verbally acknowledging that Nine doesn’t have to be like him or Tails.
Sonic also protected Nine from the others and told them to leave Nine alone while he stayed with Nine. Which was the deal to save the Shatterverse. Fittingly, Nine’s hair went back to normal as that’s what Sonic was supposed to do back in Nine’s Lives.

Sonic Prime’s writing problem when it comes to Sonic.
Sonic is often treated differently than everyone else is in terms of writing.
Exhibit A. Sonic often gets punished and/or has to apologize for things that aren’t even his fault.
Tumblr media
The Prism shatter? Sonic gets far more punished for it than even EGGMAN did for going after The Prism to begin with. At the time, Sonic didn’t really have another choice and not enough time to come up with a different plan. He did initially try to obey his friends warnings at first, it was only when the prism looked like it was going to erupt that he broke it.
Remember how Sonic was temporarily Captain? The Pirates all got nerfed In order to make Sonic quit. However he Didn’t even want to be Captain to begin with as he constantly told them, Dread’s their captain. Sonic only reluctantly accepted the job because nobody gave him a choice.
In Grim Tidings, the decaying was meant to punish Sonic for grieving the loss of Green Hill/the shards instead of Nine.
Later in the finale, Sonic is supposed to apologize for not listening to Nine’s desires and hope Nine would want more friends. However for the latter, Sonic wasn’t wrong about! For the former, Nine doesn’t apologize for not making Green Hill and being possessive. (Though Nine does end up making the portal.)
While Nine did in the beginning, constantly voice how much he doesn’t like people, Nine’s expressions throughout Cracking Down and dialogue during Grim Tidings, implies that Nine did indeed change his mind.
Exhibit B. Sonic was made ooc and have to relearn previous “lessons” in order to make the Nine villain plot last longer.
Tumblr media
Sonic and Nine had a deal where Nine agreed to help everyone so long as they left him alone. Sonic spoke to Nine, causing Nine to soften. However the others showed up to help Sonic. Making him furious again. Nine accused Sonic of planning it, while Sonic denied it, he does quickly go along with it.
Instead of going “Don’t bother Nine, he needs to help your homes”, Rebel and Prim’s words caused him to change his mind so he brags about them and goes along with their plan. When Nine called him out, Sonic then proceeds to say they should have a new deal where Nine give ups the prism and help them.
It’s fine for Sonic to be glad they showed up, however he doesn’t tell them to leave Nine alone. Technically the deal was that Nine will save their homes if they don’t attack him and allow him to live in The Grim.
Not that they couldn’t show up at all. (Since considering the destruction, they didn’t have much choice other than show up) Which is why, If you look at Nine’s behavior, he was waiting to see how Sonic would react to their presence before doing anything.
Back during Thorn’s villain arc. When Prim, Hangry, Mangey and Gnarly went against his plan, Sonic called them out since it just made Thorn more mad.
As proven in the finale and implied by Nine’s expressions, Had Sonic told everyone to leave Nine alone back then, Nine’s vilain arc would have ended like 3-4 episodes sooner. (The reason why Nine forgave Sonic isn’t just because of Sonic’s apology, it’s also because he finally fulfilled the original peace plan.)
In general throughout Season/Part 3, Sonic doesn’t acknowledge Nine’s love for the grim until around the finale.
Exhibit 3. The writers often retraumatize Sonic and have it be that to reverse it, is deadly.
Tumblr media
First the writers had Ghost Hill have ghosts/blueprints that are stuck on repeat. Then the writers put in a useless scene where Ghost Hill becomes normal. Sonic calls out to the residents, believing them to be the originals.
It’s unclear if they remember him or not because they become blueprints again before he gets a chance to speak to them.
I’m calling the scene Useless because unless you count the scene where Sonic freaks out and is horrified at their disappearance, it didn’t add anything. Because of the brief minute when everything was normal, he thinks they are the originals and he saw them dying.
When Sonic goes back to Green Hill, things picked up, shortly before the prism broke. Confirming Once and For All, That what happened during the healing wave, was just Ghost Hill getting completed rather than OG Green Hill coming back.
Sonic and Nine spoke as though Nine’s robot copies were his friends, roboticized. During Nine’s villain arc, he reminds Sonic of Eggman.
The writers had Nine imply that in order for the originals to be saved, at least one Shatterspace and possibly group of shattered characters has to be sacrificed. Which was seemingly confirmed in the finale as Ghost Hill was the only one that didn’t come back, instead it got replaced with Green Hill.
The only good thing about this is that the deaths are on Nine’s and the council’s hands, rather than Sonic’s. (Unless the events of the series got completely undone.)
Exhibit 4. Sonic values his life less as time goes on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Someone else could probably explain this better. However as more time passes, Sonic treats his life as worthless, which Nine noted because of everything that’s happened.
Sonic began downplaying his injuries, deciding to do things on his own to make up for things. During the sacrifice scene, Sonic was surprised by Nine trying to save him and he wasn’t sure about going to Green Hill originally. It was everyone else who talked him into it.
The writers often have characters constantly mistreating him. By always calling him untrustworthy and attacking him. By Avoid the Void and Cracking Down, it’s implied that he got used to it.
Nine, who was the only one to befriend Sonic due to liking him, had become a Villain.
They rarely address Sonic’s issues.

Why Renegade Knucks had to be the one who punched Nine.
A lot of fans were hoping that Shadow would do it. But he never did.
There’s a meaning behind that. As I previously pointed out, Nine appears to be a shadow archétype to Sonic. Therefore it makes sense for Nine to be given his own rival.
In addition, Shadow would be a hypocrite because he himself has done a lot of the things that Nine did.
But Knucks on the other hand? Hadn’t.
Similar to Shadow, Knucks does have reasons to be angry, and distrustful of Nine, is naturally suspicious and does like punching. While just like Sonic, Nine doesn’t like Knucks much due to the former’s negativity and can be cocky.
The entire series has been building up Knucks’s being the one to punch Nine. They took quick disliking towards each other and it continued.
While Sonic realized that Nine probably wasn’t the one who tricked them, Knucks didn’t believe him. When Nine became a Villain, Knuck’s response was to say that Nine finally revealed his true colors. As though he was always an evil villain, when in reality, Nine was neutral and morally grey.

How Sonic and Nine are the Aang and Zuko of Sonic Prime.
Tumblr media
Aang was originally from 100 years ago but he got trapped in ice after running away. When he woke up, he was a war torn world and almost everyone he ever knew had died.
Despite this though, Aang tries to remain cheerful and pacifist. He also likes playing and joking around. However as more tragedies happen, especially the disaster in Ba Sing Se, Aang started becoming more serious and annoyed when situations happen.
While battling Eggman, Sonic ended up breaking the prism. Which somehow trapped in this crystal area and when he emerged, he ended up in New Yoke, a world where a Eggman council was successful in taking over. Then later, ended up in other Shatterspaces.
The Prime Characters have vanished and were used to make the shattered characters. The shattered characters have similar traits to the originals, however they differ due to being separated from the other qualities. (Which also causes them to go through villain arcs.)
Similar to Aang, Sonic does try to remain optimistic and likes joking around. Sonic also tends to avoid fighting and/or scolding his friends counterparts when fighting is unnecessary. However as more time passes, Sonic becomes a little more serious and starts scolding more.
Tumblr media
Both Zuko and Nine were mistreated since they were little. Zuko was born into a dysfunctional family and Nine grew up during a dictatorship and was bullied for something that wasn’t even his fault. The mistreatment eventually led to them developing huge tempers and disliking most.
Zuko wanted to go back to the fire nation while Nine loved The Grim.
Throughout Book 2, Zuko did appear to start behaving better and it looked like he might join Team Avatar. While for Nine, after befriending Sonic, he slowly started becoming nicer, though he kept his temper.
However they both ultimately turned against the one that they cared for after feeling betrayed. Though they continued being conflicted.
In addition. As Villains, they often attack and try to capture the main character in an attempt to achieve their desires and They serve as foils for the main character.

Nine’s Tower is a visual Metaphor.
Tumblr media
On the outside, The Tower appears to be intimidating and unwelcoming to strangers.
This symbolizes Nine’s distrustfulness, temper and aloofness.
The Tower and Nine’s metal tails both got a lot of sharp triangles and rectangles all around. I don’t believe this is a coincidence because The Towers design at the top, is definitely meant to be reminiscent of Nine’s metal tails.
The Top has 8 huge crystals heading inwards with 4 different parts that consist of 3 rectangles and 1 triangle. Just like Nine’s metal tails. In the center of the tower, there’s normal 6 crystals. Just like how Nine’s real tails are in the middle of his metal ones.
Tumblr media
But on the inside, Nine’s tower has the pretty prism, Nine’s lab and Palm Trees, which in this series, appear to symbolize friendship. (Additionally for the Rebels, Palm Trees symbolize a life that they deserve to have.)
Similarly, at his core, Nine just wants a home and a friend. Nine was also literally made out of Tails’s love for Sonic and the Prism.
So. Any Bets on who will break down Nine’s Tower?

How the tables have turned.
Back in Green Hill, Shadow was punching Sonic around and attacking him in general, which indirectly led to the Prism Being broke because he delayed Sonic being able to help out the group.
Now In The Grim, A Group is attacking Shadow after he sent Sonic away. The Grim Sonic is the one who punched Shadow. (I wonder if This will indirectly lead to The Prism being fixed.)

Sonic Prime. The Symbolism behind the Decaying.
Tumblr media
After their fight, Sonic mourns The loss of The shards + saving Green Hill. Nine is always 2nd or 3rd.
As a symbolic punishment for prioritizing his desire for the prism shards over Nine, Ghost Hill was destroyed as that’s the very thing that caused Nine to turn against Sonic.
Tumblr media
After their fight, Nine was the opposite. Sonic first, Grim + powers 2nd.
So Symbolically, The Grim didn’t get destroyed immediately Like Ghost Hill did.
However as Nine began thinking more about The Powers of The Prism + tried replacing Sonic with a Mindless Robot Copy, The Grim began decaying to punish Nine. Since Nine’s love for the shards + The Grim and his possessiveness is part of the reason why he’s fighting with Sonic.

What was Sonic planning to do when he agreed to fight Nine with Shadow, who threatened to destroy Nine?
We can see Sonic clearly still cares about Nine. Sonic is saddened by how low Nine stooped to prefer the grim robots over everyone, including him. Later, when Nine commented on how there’s still prism energy missing, Sonic looks like he is trying to figure out where it could be to potentially help Nine. Sonic also pointed out how The Grim is decaying, finally acknowledging Nine’s love for The Grim.
Meanwhile Nine is acting like the typical bitter ex friend.
He brags to Sonic, acting like he’s so much better now that he’s by himself and mindless robot copies. However when Sonic points out how sad that lifestyle is, Nine is aware of it but he doesn’t want to admit it. When Shadow takes Sonic away, Nine talks like Sonic belongs to him, no longer hiding how possessive he is.
Did Nine think much about what might happen to Sonic if the shard energy is removed?

How Nine and Sonic resemble the others preferred place.
Tumblr media
Nine may not want Green Hill at the moment but his outfit and design screams “Green Hill”.
Upon closer examination, Fans have noticed that The Green Portal is lighter than Boscage’s. Which is true. The shade more closely resembles the green on Nine’s glove.
Tumblr media
You see those Blue and Yellow lines? Those appear to represent Sonic + Tails, which makes sense since Nine was created by Tails’s love for Sonic. (However Nine also has his belt with an eye because he is possessive and has trust issues.)
Energy has often been represented by lightning bolts, which somewhat resembles the Gateway shape.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sonic may feel out of place in The Grim but design wise, he fits almost perfectly.
While this could just be the lighting, Sonic’s green eyes blend in nicely with The Grim’s skies. Sonic’s shoes + gloves take the design of prism blocks which can be found in the Grim and the Grim’s shard can transform them. (Though it kind of becomes harsher in hindsight because Nine ends up doing something to Sonic.)

Why Nine is actually meant to be SONIC’S Shadow archetype, not Tails’s.
It’s easy to make the whole “Nine is one of Tails’s Variants and unlike the other Tails Variants, He has the backstory of being bullied by older foxes” connection but here’s the thing.
Tumblr media
Prime Tails was shattered in literally the first 5 or so minutes. He’s mainly only shown in flashbacks or as ghosts. Even then, since season two, his dialogue only gives an idea of his relationship with Sonic.
Nine only paid attention to Prime Tails briefly, which neither Ghost Hill Tails nor Prime Tails was in any position to react to. Similar thing happened with the others, they mostly only stared.
But Sonic on the other hand, WAS around and had plenty of moments with Nine. In fact, the entire series is about Their relationship.
Nine’s backstory and story wasn’t meant to compare him to Tails but rather SONIC.
There’s the whole If Sonic wasn’t around, Eggman would have won and Miles Prower would have been bullied longer thing. Nine also used different descriptions than Sonic did, when telling the story.
Sonic and Nine both have their own enemies and use their namesakes + specialty to fight them.
Sonic can often be oblivious to the feelings of others and so is Nine.
The Group commented on Sonic’s “Tardiness” and Nine commented on how Sonic wasn’t there for him.
Sonic comments on how “Home is where your friends are” and Sonic speaks of the Prime world and versions as superior. In the beginning, Nine always described The Grim as “Home” when talking about decorations and “Perfect” when describing it. However in the last trailer, Nine changed his words to “Paradise” and only described the world as his.
Sonic is often neutral when his shattered friends are fighting amongst themselves, though he does want them to make up. As implied and shown several times, Nine is completely neutral. While not good, he’s not a bully and even as a Villain, Nine has zero joy when causing harm and doesn’t fight unless he’s provoked.
However there are contrasts. Sonic is more upbeat and optimistic while Nine is more negative. Sonic is on the side of good while Nine is in the grey zone.
Now for the big question that most haven’t thought about.
Who would Sonic look like if he wasn’t the main character?
The answer? Probably Nine.
Tumblr media
There are a lot of parallels between their wrongdoings and why.
Both of their plans involve endangering the Shatterverse, which is an unintended consequence.
Both of them have been projecting.
Both of them believed the other would come around and see things their way.
Sonic’s plan to save Prime Tails and Green Hill will likely kill Nine and Nine’s plans to stabilize the prism involves killing Sonic.
Both of them talked about their preferred place on multiple occasions which the other payed little attention to. They also spoke about their favorite place being superior to the others.
Sonic believes that he created the Shatterverse however recent evidence and close examination implies that it already existed. (Although the current shatterspaces didn’t exist. ) Despite being repaired, there’s still shards and the void, Green Hill has a portal and The Prism already appeared to have cracks. plus Ghost Hill is a mystery.
Fans have noticed how Sonic appears more depressed and serious in Season 3, which is more associated with Nine. At the exact same time, Nine is more reckless and impulsive, which is more associated with Sonic.
Both have had giant accidents that they want to fix.
The fact that A lot of fans have falsely accused Nine of only using Sonic just because he didn’t want to make Sonic’s Green Hill just goes to show how similar they would appear to be to an outsider.
Nine accused Sonic of only using him because Sonic completely forgot about The Grim despite having repeated reminders from both Nine + Shadow, and to Nine, Sonic only appears interested in The Grim because He wants to steal The shard(s).

The symbolism behind Sonic losing Nine’s tech in Season 3.
Tumblr media
Nine has an eye motif and Everything that he works on and/or feels connected has a special eye design.
Nine’s metal tails are covered with eyes.
Nine’s shoes and belt has eyes.
The Grim’s portal looks like an eye.
Rusty’s right eye became yellow when Nine was the one who was controlling her.
Many of Nine’s tools have eye designs.
Nine’s portals look circular. (And so do the portals that were made by the council taking Nine’s technology.)
Nine’s spacecraft is circular and has an eye design in the back.
The tech that he made for Sonic has eye designs and when Sonic’s in the grim, instead of having complete circles like usual, The lights make the shape of an eye.
Tumblr media
Throughout the show, Nine is highly possessive of Sonic.
Almost every time Sonic pays attention to someone else, he becomes annoyed.
He keeps trying to convince Sonic to stay in The Grim. Aka The Empty Shatterspace. Nine even named the lack of people as part of the reason why He likes it so much.
Nine doesn’t like Prime Tails because he is jealous of Sonic’s love for him.
Nine doesn’t like Ghost Hill Tails declaring that he’ll always be Sonic’s wingman because he wants to be Sonic’s only friend.
Nine doesn’t like Green Hill, not just because he’ll die, but also because He’ll have to share Sonic.
Despite being intended for Sonic, The tech has Nine’s eye motif.
Essentially Nine’s tech for Sonic is meant to be reminiscent of a Collar, keeping Sonic’s prism powers under control and declaring that Sonic belongs to Nine.

At the end of the 2nd Trailer, Sonic no longer has the tech as he is fading away.
In universe, this is because he no longer needs it because he no longer has prism energy.
But it’s symbolic if my theory about Nine making the Green Hill portal is right. Since him making Green Hill would mean he’s no longer possessive of Sonic.
People may claim that since Nine is fighting against Sonic for the majority of Season 3, Nine isn’t possessive anymore. However since Nine is targeting Sonic, he still counts as being possessive, just no longer craves Sonic’s constant affection.

Meet Tails vs Meeting his Variants.
Tumblr media
For starters there’s the whole, every single one of his counterparts didn’t like Sonic at first but there’s more than that.
In most adaptations, including the game manuals, Tails follows Sonic around for some time before they properly met.
While in New Yoke, Sonic spotted Nine and decided to follow him around, eventually finding him in his lab.
While chasing Sonic, Tails learned to fly. Sonic ended up teaching Mangey how to fly. (Though most already noticed this.)
Game Sonic was already planning on battling Eggman and had his own plane, which fascinated Tails, who decided to join in the fight.
Sails was already a part of the Angel’s Voyage crew and was headed back. Sonic quickly wanted to board and was in shock after seeing the ship. Sails was the one who first accepted Sonic’s pleas to be allowed to join.
Meet Amy vs Meeting Her Variants.
Tumblr media
Just like with Tails’s counterparts, Amy’s usually start out disliking Sonic. But also again, there’s more.
Back in CD, Metal Sonic kidnapped Amy and Sonic went to rescue her. In Prime, Sonic was captured by the council. During that time, Rusty was brainwashed into working for The Council and The Rebels came to try to help Sonic.
In CD, according to the manuals, Amy was there because according to the cards, she would have an encounter with Sonic.
When meeting Thorn, Sonic was there because due to his speed, he was sent to handle her.
During the earlier games, Amy was kind of crazy about her crush, which tended to annoy Sonic.
When meeting Black, Sonic was really insistent on being allowed on the ship and acted kind of silly, which annoyed Black, who was the last to agree to let him on.
Meeting Knuckles vs meeting his Variants.
Tumblr media
Eggman had tricked Knuckles into believing that Sonic was evil. So Knuckles ended up stopping Sonic in his tracks and took the emeralds.
In New Yoke, Knucks was part of a group of Rebels that went to go to Sonic after he and Nine were captured.
Dread had started out appearing fine but he later ended up tricking Sonic and then lying to the pirate crew about what happened.
Gnarly was part of a group that was originally not really that reliable. He dubbed Sonic a Traitor when seeing Sonic with Thorn.
Really brings out how different they are.

I wonder does Sonic have Shatterverse variants now? Or not because he didn’t completely get shattered?
If you look closely at Sonic, there are lines that are the same colors as the shards and the colors that The Prime Characters glowed when they were shattered.
Tails’s hands and legs also appear to possibly be vanishing.
Yeah, it’s confirmed. The Prime Characters were completely erased.
