I go into gloomy mood swings sometimes and it unfortunately prevents me from digging into writing as much as I'd like. It used to be that I could crank out chapters within the span of hours. Now it's a bit slower. But that's okay too--it allows me to regroup my thoughts and plan things out a bit more at my own pace. I always make sure to write at least 300-500 words every day as a means of staying on track.

I NEVER talk about Sephgeal, despite shipping them. Sephgen is always going to be my endgame ship but I honestly really love the idea of Sephgeal too? I feel like they'd be a power couple, very much in sync with what the other person is thinking because they're kind of the two (relatively) chill segments of the trio. But I like the idea of them being very serious about each other and very quietly supportive. Good beans.

If I had unlimited time, talent, and ambition, I feel like I'd write one big endgame conclusion to the entire franchise post-Dirge. Something big and grand and epic where everyone's story gets tied up. I feel like Genesis would probably be our protagonist/deuteragonist and we'd resolve whatever the hell Dirge was building up to. And also I'd like to finally end Sephiroth's story for good.

It would definitely be something post-apocalyptic, with Cloud and Co. now reaching middle age.

Read an old favourite. Something new will probably take up new headspace, but reading something you love will remind you of your spark. Bonus points if it's a favourite you wrote!

I'll go for the VC version but I think my dream plot would be something set at Night Island when everyone is there, just the weird shit that had to go down that group of people in one place. I need to know what happened when Armand and Louis saw each other again, I need Louis' reaction to Daniel, I need Gabrielle and Marius to talk because if Lestat is like her male counterpart to her mind then what does she think on Marius (bonus points if she talks to Pandora first). Honestly, we have so many talented writers in VC so is it a cop out to say I think it would make a great anthology to look at each character people identify with?

Define weird? I did a lot of research into renaissance era sex toys for Bianca and that was helpfully aided by @apoptoses so it didn't feel that weird. The designs were fantastic.

If you're going for the most random thing I ended up researching, it was what sort of foods would have been staples in the DM era in different locations because food experience with Armand is something I find really interesting. Finding out about him probably not knowing what a tomato tasted like blew my mind. I find the history and culture of food and how it changes to be interesting in general.

I will be honest and say I don't know if I have one. I haven't seen a lot of Armand headcanons that made me want to bleach my eyes. Maybe that he tends to tailor himself to his audience which means you only really see him through other people's eyes, including for his own book as I think that's through the lens of David. Thus I think his actual life is very private and we get to see very little of it, so as a character, I think it's a hard thing to compensate for but a fascinating part of him.

17. What's a book, movie or show you think Reno would like?

I feel like with his job, Reno doesn't get a ton of time to consume much of anything because he's always. WORKING. For this reason I feel like he's probably right into Tik Tok or rather, the Shinra equivalent, because it's entertaining and sometimes informative (RIP Rude who has to listen to the constant stream of "Hey Partner didja hear that ... (insert interweb nonsense here)" ) and he probably has multiple Twiiter accounts to troll the firsts (Genesis) and the Shinra upper brass (Scarlet, Heidegger, Lazard etc) and that's his main source of entertainment. But if he were to have some downtime I think he might be into shows like Brooklyn Nine Nine, The Simpsons and like...The X-Files. Things that are kind of pop culture-y and clever but also with stilted humour and in terms of the X-Files, it's kind of art imitating life. Also I feel like if the Deadpool movies existed in FFVII verse (and knowing Deadpool, they probably do because that man transcends all genres), he'd be right into them. Oh damn I also just realised he'd probably love Law and Order SVU. He'd constantly be yelling "CALL BENSON" in staff meetings if anything remotely inappropriate was raised. (I absolutely do not do this IRL btw...😅...)

22. Give us a headcanon for Genesis?

Alright let me think...okay this one is for Post Canon Genesis. Every year, on the anniversary of Angeal's death, Genesis makes a Banoran apple crumble. It's a relatively easy dish, one that he has most of the ingredients for in his meagre kitchen (or at the very least can pilfer from 7th Heaven without being caught). He flies to the ruins of Banora and picks apples from the tree in his old backyard (that has miraculously grown to be even larger and more beautiful than it ever was when he was a child) himself to use in the dish. And he uses Angeal's recipe (which was Gillian's recipe); handwritten, with stains and fingerprints all over it from creations past that he had Reno steal for him from the WRO archives. He makes the crumble and when it's done, he just sits and stares at it and drinks and smokes and very occasionally, not that he'd admit to it, he cries. He never, ever eats it though. When he's done with his little ritual he takes it to Tifa and tells her to give it to someone who needs it and she does. Every year. Without asking why.

LOL yes!!!! I mean obviously they watch basketball and football together all the time but tbh I think Daniel secretly loves watching a bunch of different game shows with Louis too! Louis is a very weird creature LMAO he likes to feel smart but he also gets so pissy when he doesn't get the answers right so Daniel finds it endlessly entertaining to sit next to him while Jeopardy is on, and shout out the correct answers to some of the pop culture categories before Louis can guess them (or shout out completely wrong questions just to get Louis all twisted up). Every time Daniel guesses the wheel of fortune puzzle before Louis can, Louis throws a huffy fit lol!!

I don't know if they specifically hide anything from each other...honestly Louis watches more tv than Daniel these days because Daniel is so fed up with all the different streaming services and shit that he loses interest in most stuff pretty quickly whereas Louis tends to fall down rabbit holes pretty easily which means occasionally Daniel will walk in to find Louis sitting two feet in front of the tv screen with a thoughtful little frown. "Daniel, I'm 7 seasons into Friends and I still don't understand the obsession with Rachel. Why do people like her?"

How do you choose the locations for your fics?

idk, poorly? Lmao Lately I'm annoyed with myself for how often I put them at home, in bed. I feel like I used to be more creative with locations when I was doing chase years fic because Armand wasn't necessarily 'invited' into Daniel's private spaces at that time. So I had to put them in creative locations, and generally tried to think of what would be the strangest space for Armand to be in, or for both of them to get access to in the middle of the night?

Or in retrospect Blood Sanation was fun because the entire concept was built around what are the most unnatural places for two Anne Rice vampires to be in: driving through Appalachia, in a run down honeymoon hotel suite, waffle house at 1am. In Louis and Lestat's Rue Royale home because let's face it, that place has seen some shit, and Armand never got to creep on it in canon lol

I will say that usually the act or conversation comes before the location. I see them in my head in a kind of 'nowhere' space and then when I know what the scene will be about I fill in the background. And that's usually pretty obvious stuff, right? If they're talking about god put them at a church, if Daniel needs to be drinking put him at a bar. If they're just arguing pick somewhere public to set it so that the tension is higher, like a street corner or a restaurant. Then the fun details can get filled in like having Armand snuff out the prayer candles, or putting a neon light behind the bar that casts creepy shadows on his face.

So YEAH I wanna get back to my roots and get them out of 'in bed, at home' lol I'm looking at montaged places they went to during the Night Island era and trying to play with that because that requires travel at least. Everyone and everything feels too 'safe' at home imo.

#i think it's just easier too to let them be in a setting you've seen and pictured a thousand times rather than having to get into a new one #but i think there is something about the familiar made unfamiliar too so it's six of one half a dozen of the other with locations #i'm happy either way #but new locations can bring new and interesting off branches #and ideas for where to go next #it's almost a meme in itself #give a location and write for it #vc #apoptoses

How obvious did Genesis have to be for Sephiroth to realise he liked in a way more than just friends,

And as a second, Genesis doing really dumb shit to try and make it obvious, but Sephiroth just chalks it down to Genesis's drama™️

I think that when it comes to these two, it's Genesis who needs the reality check there. Like yes he's a flirt, he's ridiculous but when it comes to real feelings, I think he's the one terrified of being too real and losing everything so he purposefully keeps it light. So I think Sephiroth has to figure it out on his own and be the one to - perhaps for the first time - be the one to push Genesis into admitting it. Sephiroth has this blunt streak that I think is incredibly disarming because I think Genesis does take him at his word.

That said, I absolutely believe Sephiroth phrased it as Genesis having feelings for him and did not mention until Genesis got catty and defensive that yes, those feelings are reciprocal because he is a god damned troll.

3. Which one outlives the other, and how they cope

Fml okay here we go:

I think, going off what we have so far in canon, Genesis absolutely (technically) outlives Sephiroth and once he wakes up from his water nap he then really has to go and actually deal with the fact that Sephiroth is gone and that, like it or not, he played a pretty darn big role in his lover's demise.

How does he cope? As well as one would expect: Massive shame spiral (naturally). I think he'd meticulously search for and find all the old records and security footage detailing the events from his desertion onwards and basically watch himself break Sephiroth in the reactor at Nibelheim over and over and over again until the exact look of heartache and betrayal that he didn't catch through his own anger and degradation haze back then is etched on the back of his eyelids. And of course that would be followed by watching Sephiroth plunge to his death at that same reactor not long after - again, over and over and over - it's his own brand of masochistic penance. It makes him sick with grief. There isn’t one piece of furniture left in his living space that hasn’t been smashed to bits in a fit of rage.

I think he'd lose his faith for a time too. When he was degrading Loveless was his obsession, his lifeline, his raison d’être - but after everything I feel like, for a while anyways, the thought of it would just be so wrapped up in his own feelings of self hatred, guilt and loss that he just can’t bear to have it in his presence at all. It’s too much.

And these are absolutely things I know you and I have discussed in detail so they’ve basically become interwoven in how I think his very early post canon self would be in his attempt to try and come to terms with not just the enormity of what he’s lost, but also what his role to play in it all was. Genesis is a person who commits his entire self to his bit and I think in terms of grieving for his lover and his best friend, he’d really give it his all.

"I cannot be lectured into submission unless I allow it," Genesis looked affronted at the very idea of it. "Do you really not remember?" "I had a head injury," Sephiroth reminded him. "But I don't think I recall there being a specific moment where you decided you were no longer disappointed with the reality of me." Genesis sat down on the feather mattress wordlessly, picking at the polish on his nails as he seemed to actually consider what he was going to say. Perhaps there was something truly supernatural about Nibelheim after all. "There was blood in your hair," Genesis said, touching his own in a way that didn't seem entirely deliberate. "We were lying together in that dingy tent, sure we were going to be hit by lightening or discovered but you were so close that I could smell it. Angeal said something along the lines of saying it would nice to be home now, sand underneath us more than slush and mud and whatever else we'd trailed with us after you set my leg. I said something to the effect of 'oh I expect you have never wanted to go home, you're in your element out here in the blood and the muck', and I don't know if it was the shrapnel shaking your words loose or whether you simply thought we would die and it wouldn't matter if you said it - do you remember?" Sephiroth shook his head. While he remembered most of that night in what he would say was excellent clarity for someone with an obvious concussion, he couldn't place this exact moment at all. "You said that you wanted to go home every day," Genesis replied, huffing as he said it. "But that you didn't know where home was, so you just always felt that way so it didn't matter whether you were in Wutai or Midgar or anywhere else. It was so matter of fact, so utterly emotionaless for such a terrible revelation that I didn't know what to say. Something in me just started to scream about it within my own mind, that I had always wanted to bring you home before I had even set eyes on you in person and I was resolved to do exactly that one way or another. And I did do exactly that! The house doesn't matter. Whether it's in the Inn that taste forgot or in Costa del Sol or knee high in blood and mud and bodily effluvia, we will be home as long we're together. Your hair is all over my clothes, you keep stealing my conditioner and I know it's you that keeps eating my chocolate covered coffee beans!"

They gave you everything, everything that was rightfully mine - and you never even wanted it…you never...do you even understand what that felt like??? Can you even fathom it??? And you sit there staring at me with those big, sad eyes and I know you understand exactly what it's like because I...I said…ALL of that...and then you…and now… S: Genesis - G: I can’t do this Seph. I can’t do this and it’s all my fault and I just can’t. S: It’s not your - G: It is! Don't you see??? And I can’t be in love with you anymore. It’s destroying me. S: You are… in love with me. G: I didn’t say that. S: I think you did. G: Okay I did but you didn’t hear it.
