i'm honestly so annoyed at my parents lol... anyone else have super controlling indian parents who use your grades as leverage for anything and everything you want to do?

i'm a junior rn and lost most of my high school social experiences to covid... my first homecoming ever is, like, tomorrow & saturday, and all my friends were super excited about going. my friends from other schools are going, too, and i knew even when it was first announced that it was going to take so damn long, and a lot of effort, to convince my own parents. and i honestly didn't know how to approach it, but one day i tried. i was respectful about it, and i was polite, but the response i got was closely along the lines of "no??? look at your grades! you should be ashamed of yourself to even want to go. do you think you deserve to go?"

honestly? yes. i think i deserved to go. years and years of never hanging out with my "friends" has ultimately deprived me of them, and i don't have a single person i can call a best friend. a lot of people asked me if i was gonna go to homecoming, and i had to say no. and i didn't say that my parents didn't let me because they check text and will go off on me if i "slander" them to my friends, so i made excuses.

now they don't talk to me because they think that all these years, i've been avoiding hanging out with them on purpose. it sucks. they've been avoiding conversations with me for the past few days and i feel. so. alone. the fear of missing out is real. i've always missed things like these and i'm almost done with high school... i want to remember these things, not my final grade in precalculus, or what score i got on that ap chemistry midterm. that's not what i'll remember years from now when i think of high school.

i'm just... god. i'm so annoyed. and i know this isn't the last event; there's winter formal and prom and next year, but like??? it's not like everyone else who's going is getting A+s..... i don't understand this. i'm not even a terrible student, being in the B range at times - junior year is tough while starting out. i don't know.

i don't get this and i'm angry and i don't have anyone else to talk about this to so i'm here and sick of this. i just wish i could live like a regular high schooler. i just wanna feel like i belong somewhere lmao
