It would have been SO funny if Lucy and Mina had encountered someone on their way home from the churchyard.
Because I can vividly imagine this person running into them and their immediate concern as they notice that here are two young women rushing through town and one of them isn't even properly dressed. But just as they're opening their mouth to ask what sort of dire circumstances prompted them to rush out of the house in such a state, they catch a glimpse of Mina's feet in the moonlight and they just stop.
And they're just standing there with their mouth half open completely unsure of what to say or do next, because they are like 99 percent sure that this girl has deliberately painted her bare feet with mud, but that doesn't make any sense, like what a weird fucking thing to do! Especially considering the fact that her companion is running about town in her pajamas, which by itself is strange but could conceivably be explained by some sort of emergency. However, taken together it all adds up to just completely unhinged behavior.
But they've seen these girls around town, they're acquainted with them enough to know that these are respectable young women. Not the sort to engage in Unhinged Behavior. And if they say something and they're wrong? Then THEY'RE the one who looks unhinged!
Meanwhile Lucy is still at least 67 percent out of it from blood loss and completely oblivious to the increasingly awkward stand-off playing out between the other two. Mina is using every last bit of willpower she can summon to not pull even so much as a hint of a glimmer of a facial expression. This other person is just standing there with their mouth still half open, very deliberately NOT looking at Mina's feet. And this whole time the silence keeps stretching longer and longer, until finally they clear their throat and just fucking walk away because like what else are they even supposed to do with that?
They run into Mina in town from time to time afterwards and they just look at each other, and neither of them ever says a word. But they both Know

I wish we had just a little bit of imput for Lucy in this chapter, just a little bit of her thoughts. Because if we follow her problems since when it started it seems that Lucy is going down in a spiral of anxiety and worry too, and it is getting worse.
Lucy's whole travel to Whitby was for two things: 1) to perfectly prepare her wedding with Arthur, 2) to relax so she can be fresh and pretty for the wedding day. So far, she has done none of those things, and the only thing that Whitby gave her was a revival of her sleepwalking tendecies thanks to her anxiety about the wedding. Along with omen after omen that something Bad is going to happen in the time where her and Mina are there.
Of course nothing is completely bad, Lucy gets to go hiking with Mina, to see the town and pleasantly talk to the locals about ghost legends in graves, she gets to eat whatever she wants because it is her Hot Girl Summer. But then Arthur can't come because his father is sick. Then Lucy stars to think about what is going to happen to the point of kickstarting her sleepwalking again, then she gets more worried about her future so she gets worse at night. She concentrates on what is coming "What if I made the wrong choice, what if my mother is dissapointed by Arthur, what if Arthur decides to not marry me in the end, what am I going to do if Mina gets tired of taking care of me, what if what if what if....."
On top of that Jonathan still hasn't written Mina and Mina is visibly worried about him, a ship crashes at the shore of Whitby with a dead captain tied to it, and Mr. Swales, the charming old man that told Lucy ghost stories, suddenly dies by falling, breaking his neck. All of these situations that are beyond her control are making her feel worse and worse to the point that today Lucy is refusing to tell Mina about something that is up with her, something that probably is making her feel horrible, yet she doesn't want to say anything to her beloved Mina because she doesn't want to "bother" her.
And now that certain bad dog is in town, I'm dreading that Lucy is a prime target for cruelty because she is in such a vunerable position right now.

In this installment of Dracula, why was the dog so terrified of going near that particular gravestone? Was it just that his more acute senses were able to sense that Dracula had been there, or more ominously, is it because he senses that Dracula is still there? Is he there, watching Mina and Lucy watching the funeral of the man he murdered, on the bench where he murdered Mr. Swales the night before? Is he plotting something terrible for Mina and Lucy, even as they make their way home and have their “frightening” encounter with the cows?

Captain of the Demeter: Dear Diary, everyone thinks the ship is fucking haunted. I walked across the whole boat and didn’t see a single ghost. Can’t believe the crew pranked me into exercising. Assholes.

Just struck me that the Log of the Demeter is basically the plot of Alien.
