I feel like The Dark Crystal (especially Age of Resistance) is like... James Cameron's Avatar but good. Like they both take place on this other world and there's a lot of focus on making that world seem really strange and alien, with it's own unique flora and fauna and ecosystems, only The Dark Crystal uses Chad practical effects rather than Virgin CGI. Both stories are about an alien race coming to this world to conquer and lay dominion over it. Both stories contain themes of colonialism, revolt, eco-defense, nature vs industry and indigenous spirituality. Only in Avatar all of it is just handled in such a shallow way compared to Dark Crystal.
