I don’t think at any other point in my life has it been more nakedly obvious the United States government functions first as an arms dealer and global police force for imperialism and an actual country with a government as a distant second. There’s is practically no pretense right now that it functions as anything else and the ruling class has no interest in even pretending otherwise. No education, no housing, no transportation, no new infrastructure, no healthcare, no welfare, no social safety net, no legal guarantees for bodily autonomy and basic human rights. Just an endless stream of weapons and money for war and military occupation (including the domestic military occupation through the “police). Nothing else matters, and they don’t care that we know it anymore.

2023 > 2018 > 2014 (from twitter) HELLAWEEN has come SO far since it burst into existence. Fresh out of art school at an internship that gave me a full blown career crisis, and I needed to make something completely self indulgent or die. Nearly a decade later I FINALLY get to share their story Over the Garden Wall had just premiered and it hit me like a brick. "Just fucking do whatever dude! what if My Chemical Romance wrote the sound track to Scooby-Doo? What if Tony Hawks Pro Skater took place in a Spirit store? squash your favorite things into a big spooky katamari" and it worked! Suddenly drawing was fun again and nobody had to tell me it wasn't marketable because it was just for me. I made a bunch of zines, a couple comics, started pitching it to animation studios... before I landed in Penguin's capable flippers for 2 full graphic novels. Gay transgender activist Lou Sullivan spent years researching the life of Jack Garland, an obscure early 20th century transgender man who evidently loved men. He rifled though archived newspapers and letters in local libraries for any scrap relevant to Jack, and finally managed to get the completed novel published only very shortly before his death by AIDS in 1990. The book made a single run from a now-defunct publishing company, so a very limited number of copies of the book exist today. Approximately 30 libraries carry it across the US and certain sellers have another handful of copies available for upwards of $200+ each. However, I could afford to shell out that $200, and I think Lou would want his book to be accessible to the modern trans population. So I've bought a copy and scanned it and converted the pages into a PDF,
