Hey! I want to get into miniatures for my little guys, what do you think is a good jumping off point?
Sorry it has taken me a year to respond!!! It depends on how old your kids are, under 8 I would suggest calico critters, but over that age you could look into getting a dollhouse kit or a diorama kit! I build most of my dioramas from scratch but theres tons of youtube tutorials out there!

I finished this in May, so can’t believe I haven’t posted yet, but - the first of my non-Sherlockian miniatures in a loooong time, 1/6 scale of the Swamp, made entirely from the ground up. It took about two weeks with breaks only to sleep and eat, and I tend to break down my miniatures once photographed to save space in tiny apartment, but this one is permanently in the living room because I just can’t bring myself to, and may yet add to it. Many more pics below the cut!

After a solid two weeks of work, Mike’s basement from Stranger Things is finished (mostly I still need tiny things that had to be 3D printed but I don’t have one of those). The DnD table doubles as El’s fort hideout too bc I had to scale down the dio’s size a bit.

In regards to my last post I wanted to show you all the very real shop the miniature comic book store I built is based off of. A lot of people who saw that post thought it was real, and thank you for that(!), but it actually is a real place! First two photos are of the real Sir Lonebuck’s House of Comics and Geekery that resides in Woodinville Washington, third photo is of the diorama of it I made with Shane the owner as I gifted it to him. This was not a commissioned piece, I made it purely out of love for that store. But before handing it over I did take some pics of my own figures inside, a few I purchased there!
To answer a few questions I got: the structure is made from foam board. I made everything myself, including most of the printables in photoshop. Everything is also glued in to avoid any mess if it gets bumped or when putting figures in. The only thing I couldn’t replicate was the art they sell on the walls, I don’t copy other artists work and the art changes out frequently as its bought.

1/12th scale diorama I made of my local comic book store, Sir Lonebuck’s House of Comics and Geekery. I gave this to them as a gift and I believe the owner, Shane, is going to display it in the store. This was a complete surprise for him, something I wanted to do to express my gratitude for his store and it being a safe space to LGBTQ+ people.
Everything is made by me, the books are based off real ones in the store.
