Commissioner/Secretary forests visits Ganderbal Takes stock of wetlands of Ganderbal GANDERBAL, SEPTEMBER 14: Commissioner Secretary Forest Ecology and Environment department, Sanjeev Verma today visited district Ganderbal and took stock of the Wetlands of the district. During the visit, the Commissioner Secretary was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Krittika Jyotsna, ACR Ganderbal, Regional Wildlife Warden Kashmir, ACD, DFO Sindh Forest Division Ganderbal and other concerned. The Commissioner/Secretary visited Ahan Sar, Waskura Sar and Manasbal lakes to have firsthand appraisal of the management of these water bodies.  These three waterbodies are on the verge of being notified as wetlands under Wetland Management Rules of 2017. While inspecting the management of these wetlands, DFO informed the Commissioner Secretary that the brief documents have already been prepared and submitted by the District Administration in this regard.  The commissioner/secretary directed for preparation of management plan for these water bodies to undertake desiltation and deweeding works, for which he sought the collaboration of Revenue, Forest and Rural development departments in restoration of these wetlands to past glory. While ascertaining the physical condition of the waterbodies, Commissioner Secretary exhorted that management plan for these wet lands shall be formulated containing all components to restore these wetlands to the pristine glory which will not only add to the aquatic and avifaunal diversity of the lakes but shall also enhance tourism potential of these areas. Meanwhile, Commissioner Secretary interacted with the PRIs/locals and urged them to help administration in conservation of these wet lands as livelihood of people living on the edges of these wetlands depends to a large extent on the productivity of wetlands that provide a great variety of functions and benefits and may provide options for additional developments such as tourism. DC Ganderbal flags off annual Harmukh-Gangabal Yatra GANDERBAL, SEPTEMBER 13: The Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Krittika Jyotsna, today flagged off a group of Kashmiri Pandits for the annual pilgrimage to Harmukh-Gangabal lake shrine here from Naranag temple. A group of about thirty Kashmiri Pandits left for the Gangabal lake, which is considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva by Hindus from Naranag temple for three days amid security and other arrangements. After performing Puja at Naranag temple, devotees set on 36-km journey on foot to Gangabal lake, which is located around 14,500 feet above sea level in the Harmukh mountain range. The pilgrimage organized under the banner of the Harmukh Ganga (Gangabal) Trust (HGGT) and All Parties Migrants' Coordination Committee (APMCC) will conclude on 15 September 2021. Pertinently, District Administration has made all arrangements including accommodation, medical and security arrangements for the pilgrims. Work on strategic Zojila tunnel going on full swing GANDERBAL, GANDERBAL 27:  Managing Director, National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), K.K Pathak visited Z-Morh andZojila project sites to inspect the works progress on Zojila and Z-morh tunnel projects.  The MD was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Krittika Jyotsna, SSP Ganderbal, Suhail Munawar Mir, Executive Director (Projects), NHIDCL, Gurjeet Kambo, GM, NHIDCL Alok Saxena and other officers and officials from District Administration and executing agencies. During the visit, Pathak was apprised about the progress of Zojila and Z-Morh tunnel projects by Executive Director(Projects). For Z-Morh project, Shri Pathak appreciated ASATPL for the breakthrough of one tube of Z-Morh Tunnel and for their efforts to keep Sonamarg open for controlled traffic movement through of Z-Morh Tunnel during forthcoming winter season with the co-ordination of DC, Ganderbal and SSP Ganderbal. For, Zojila Project, Pathak appreciated MEIL for notable progress and stressed upon the planning of works to be executed during winter season also. Officials of MEIL assured Pathak that work is being planned meticulously and MEIL will deliver the project well before the schedule time. Shri Pathak directed MEIL to open the Zojila Tunnel and Nilgrar Tunnels in the approach of Zojila for controlled traffic at the earliest. On the occasion, DC, Ganderbal also committed full cooperation from District Administration in the interest of works of National Importance and said that Zojila tunnel would be instrumental in benefitting social and economic development of the region apart from boosting the tourism in Sonamarg region once thrown open for traffic movement. While, interacting with the media persons, Pathak said that work on Zojila tunnel is in full swing and project completion is expected well before the set timeline.
