A series of events:
1. I put in an Annual Leave request form almost 3 weeks ago and my boss has not approved it yet
2. I went into my office today and replaced every single writing utensil with crayons in preparation for April Fools Day on Monday
3. Whilst searching for pens to remove, I found my unsigned Annual Leave form in my boss’s drawer
4. I placed my unsigned Annual Leave form in a photo frame and put it on his desk
5. The frame I used was from a photo of his kids that I deemed less important than my Leave form
6. My boss sometimes goes into the office on Saturdays to work
7.

kes--the weirdo who deliberately ran away from her secure underground community to face the unknown on the surface and then ran away again to face the unknown in the galaxy at large, who spoke very clearly and sincerely about how important it is to not close oneself off, to in fact open up to the sun--is accused of innocence and naiveté every time she's right about something. she has too much patience for this treatment, imo. she needs someone to fight her for real, face to face, in a boxing match or something. that way she can wipe the sweat off her face and grin through the blood on her teeth.

Janeway/Seven for the ask game?
(ship asks) (sorry i lost this in my drafts for a while!!)
Don’t Ship It...... but
1. Why don’t you ship it?
i kind of debated how to answer this because i do ship it in the sense that it's intensely interesting to me, there's a LOT of canon to work with, and sometimes i like to play around with that canon and stare at it and pick it apart, but i usually come away from it saying "hmm. don't like this for seven." there is soooo much tangled romantic and sexually charged energy between them, but i find some specifics of their power imbalance uncomfortable for a romantic arc, so i don't tend to seek out fic. in the final balance, i don't ship it more than i do.
2. What would have made you like it?
honestly, it's a fluke of timing. i watched voyager live as a young teen girl who was trying and failing to both be and not be my mother, so that intensely intimate push and pull between janeway and seven as seven fights to define herself hit me a certain way. (i was also trying and failing to end up straight and so was aggressively het-reading everything from this to xena warrior princess.) but if i had been five years older and had internet access to fanfic, it would have been the perfect moment to hit me with "hot powerful older woman wants to both help and control the most beautiful young woman ever (who has Something Wrong With Her), and ends up loving her sooooo much that she's fully insane about it."
and i somehow skipped over that critical period because now i'm closer to janeway's age and i work sometimes with newly-adult girls who imprint on me because they're going through something and i'm an authority figure who's being kind to them, so it's harder for me to drop in and enjoy a power imbalance fantasy.
3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
YES!!! it's one of the great femslash ships!! there's so much canon interaction that's intense and emotional and shippy as hell. i have no doubt in my mind that janeway loves seven. seven is a challenge and an obligation and a gift and her most interesting project and her intellectual match and her feral rescue dog and her surrogate daughter and her noble accomplishment and her unwilling protege and her friend and the most intense emotional relationship she has. seven's feelings are deeply and understandably conflicted. they're both damaged and do damage to each other. i feel the need to jump up and defend j7 even though i don't ship it, because i'm mostly a j/c shipper and there are sooooooo many j7 deniers there who pretend there's no canon basis for j7 and it's like. come on. come onnnnnnn with your eyes and your ears. it's one thing if you don't like that it's happening, my position here is that half the time seven doesn't really like it either, but it's there.

I mean I know a certain level of projection on fictional characters and situations is inevitable and even healthy, but sometimes you got to step back into the real world to remind yourself that Character X is not your shitty parent/abusive ex/asshole boss/bully from high school, and that people who like Character X are not personally victimizing you.

Every single response I see @neil-gaiman give on this hellsite has the exact same energy as an extremely tired king of a tiny medieval country, pinching the bridge of his nose as he once more decides which peasant the pumpkin TRULY belongs to

"This is the part I really want you to hear: You did that. When you got her out of the house, when you defied your father, you did that. You saved those people. That choice you made echoes through millions of lives."
I thought it was interesting how the show draws a lot of parallels between Lenore and Annabel - but also Lenore and Madeline. But Verna basically lays it out here.
Lenore does what Madeline couldn't: Lenore gets her mother out of the house. Lenore defies her father. Lenore gets her mother medical treatment when her mother cannot speak for herself.
Verna tells Madeline in the house that she sees all that Madeline was, is, and might have been. Madeline could have been more like Lenore.
Another interesting thing is that Lenore doesn't have a sibling, no Roderick. While she grows up in an abusive household, she is mostly unaware of the way her father treats her mother (which gets much worse over the course of the show, but the dynamic already exists, and we get a peek into that in the conversation with Perry).
Madeline makes a lot of decisions in response to the patriarchal and capitalist influences around her, which entrench her in that world and make her a lot like the men around her. Lenore chooses differently, and that changes everything.
