I have two large rolling tool chests. One with tools, one full of fasteners, all drawers clearly marked... you know the clueless person is going to cause a melt down by not putting stuff back... or putting it in the wrong drawer. AU where clueless is not allowed to touch the tool chests (or bench power tools) and has to make due with whatever overflow tools are in the 20gal totes.

Fuck coffee shop AUs. I need more hardware store AUs.

Give me home improvement AUs where one person is DIYing cluelessly and the other is trying to teach them how to use what they're buying without destroying their house.

"We bought a fixer upper together" AUs where the big plot tension occurs in the middle of a kitchen renovation where one party loses it and goes out to sleep in a tent in the yard.

Well, I can't be there, but... I have drop shipped fudge to a depressed friend who just had a death in the family. Sent a replacement laptop keyboard to a friend in England... Got house warming gifts of the DIY type to a friend's parents who were kind of overwhelmed after moving buying their first house and relocating to it a few thousand miles away with only what could fit in a suitcase. And having groceries and dogfood (as well as a refrigerator) delivered to a (temporarily) estranged spouse who was not coping well.

I know people complain a lot about the internet and how it is ruing this or that, but when it comes to helping someone several hours, or half the globe away, you just can't beat it.

And yes... writing just shy of a million words of fic to help friends I haven't met yet escape their problems, even if it is just for a few hours.
