I'm not dead! (And other news)

It has been a LONG time since I've been able to sit down and type / code a post here, I'm sure my newest followers and customers I've referred to my blog have been wondering what the hell I've been doing with my life. The answer is A LOT. Now that I've been freed of the curse that was 2021 (I hope) I've been planning many new things for 2022, some of which have been already enacted and others still in progress. I'll be making several posts over the next few weeks as we approach the Spring Equinox and Ostara celebrations. I'm going to try and cover the basics here and elaborate in the future.

I have been busy making a lot of 'Blessed Boxes' and rune sets but I've had some time in between to experiment (and the results usually end up in a Blessed Box anyway so it's a win-win for all involved.) Some of these creations have been photographed and catalogued for listing in the shop. (Links directly to the listings of those I wasn't lazy on)

I have been experimenting a bit with the stability and functions of different waxes in candle making because I wanted to make some stand alone candles along with my standard container candles, which are usually spell or ritual candles. So far, I've found a ratio that works well enough for these skull candles.

Each one is created with different colored soy wax and beeswax, given an enchanting yet subtle herbal aroma of Frankincense and Sandalwood. Once cured, they are detailed using alcohol ink which lends to the amazing effect of the melting wax being a different color than the candle itself. Bleeding skulls? Sure, why not?

And for those of you who aren't into the Gothic decorum, these color changing lotus resin candle holders can bring some visual magic to your home or altar. They're multipurpose, handmade, and each one of a kind. As your candle burns, the thermogenic pigments in their petals will react and shift between three different colors, an effect I've used in other creations of mine just because it is SO cool to watch.

This bracelet is a variation of my 'Guardian Goddess- Freyja' bracelet using African Emerald crystal spheres, Czech glass beads, and my own handmade clear cast dried flowers and moss beads that I originally created for Elemental themed spell beads and have since found many uses for them. The original design is available in the shop, each one of a kind and Personalization is always welcome (of course.) I have been making a lot of variations for this design for Spring as I feel it complements seasonal fashion throughout Spring and Summer and literally feels like you're wearing a little bubble of your garden wherever you go.

Quick Notes

•International Customers- some of you may still be waiting on shipments. Rest assured you have not been forgotten. I have been keeping an eye on customs restrictions and international shipping issues for some time since October when I first began experiencing issues with delivery in the EU. If you do not receive your package within the next two weeks, please let me know so that I can investigate.

•Ever since November's connection issues on top of supply chain prior, things are taking a little longer than estimated across the board. Larger orders in particular. I haven't forgotten with you and you should receive your orders shortly. For your personal ETA, shoot me an email or contact me on Etsy. I'm always working my hardest to get everything to you ASAP (but, again, it is just me.)

•OSTARA SALE kicked off last month and will be ongoing until March 30th- a large selection of listings are included with different discounts! Take a look or request a custom order - I'm looking forward to working for and with you all here in 202 2! I'm also considering doing another give away / contest for the Sabbat but more on that as it approaches.

•Prices- Selling on Etsy is about to get more expensive. Then again, everything is anyways so we should have anticipated that one. Prices for some listings will be going up over the next few weeks (take advantage of the lower price now.) Transaction fees have increased as well as shipping and listing fees .

•PODCAST- Within the next month I plan on launching a weekly podcast sharing my tips, tricks, and knowledge involving anything and everything to do with the occult, new Age Spirit spirituality, the paranormal, and self empowerment. Get your questions answered and maybe learn something new. More on this soon!

•MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION BLESSED BOX is another work in progress I'm hoping to launch this upcoming summer, but I'm still putting my feelers out for interest. These fully personalized subscription boxes will basically be a slightly more standardized version of what my customers receive when ordering a Blessed Box from the shop with handmade and hand selected items. Each Tier will have more customization and intuitively chosen gifts for the recipient plus extras like digital downloads, discounts, and more.

That's all my fingers and brain can allow for now. New Years resolution was to use social media more to stay connected with y'all. Still not hip yet.

Letting Go of 2021 & Small Business Saturday

(Thanks to this blog post for these memes and helping me regain a sense of sanity)

2021 has been the worst rollercoaster ride I've ever been on, with ups and downs that greatly resembled that feeling of your guts quickly rising up in your throat and then, just as rapidly, dropping back into stomach with twenty pounds of extra weight. I'm sure others can relate.

It wasn't until June / July that getting regular supplies for my work started to become a noticeable issue. Unfortunately, due to the nature of my work, this just compounded the wait time on items i already had a pretty long estimate for processing. Each item is made to order, supplies are reordered depending on what is needed which has (had) allow me to keep my prices more affordable for everyone, including myself.

Inflation, the waiting, and now with the customers I just can't with.

Requesting cancellations after I already had purchased postage and all but put their item(s) in a box / package and drove them to the post office. Some I had already driven to the post office. Not that I'm much to care for Thanksgiving as a holiday, it is a non work day. Needless to say, my Thanksgiving holiday was full of messages about items that were already out for shipment, customers requesting cancellations for whatever reason (Impulse buys, bought by accident, etc) , me looking at the books and back at my phone as my previous job had recently contacted me about working seasonally.

All this and, oh boy, a new COVID variant, packages rejected by customs due to new restrictions, and rent increases.

But then I saw the blog post before and took a deep breath. I'm well aware that I'm not exuding positive energy at the moment and that is influencing what I'm receiving. So, with all due respect, I'm skipping Yule and saying hello to 2022 early.

Also just for reading this post. Because here's the thing, local and small businesses are hurting right now.

Customers are becoming less understanding due to high prices and long processing times. Even chain and franchise stores are closing. Amazon is barely keeping up with next day shipping requests. With this new COVID threat, the future of your favorite stores, including my own rests in your hands.

Contemplate a custom order or something personalized as a gift. You will spend a little more, but you'll receive something made with love and care. I myself make everything you see listed by hand as a solo female artist and business owner. Nothing is premade or resold.

All we ask for is your patience. There is nothing more annoying than ordering something special to complete an order for a customer that then cancels on you for attempting to do exactly what the desire.

If shipping is delayed, please also remember that the USPS is working double time to make sure everything arrives on time for you. It may be wonky and your packages may not be scanned immediately, but they're doing their best, as are all of us.

My husband recently started creating these beautiful made to order macrame necklaces with raw crystals I typically have been keeping in stock for other projects. Each one is made to order and of course can be personalized.

Celebrating Hekate - November Projects & Updates

The official celebratory day of Hecate (Hekate) has passed by in the blink of an eye, though I personally celebrate The Mother of Witches throughout the month of November with different rituals and practices. This post is meant to educate a bit on this well known ancient Greek 'Triple Goddess' and to give some much needed updates as I've been so busy lately, I even missed my traditional Samhain posts. :(

About Hekate (Hecate) & Her Role in Modern Witchcraft

Hekate is the Hellenistic 'triple goddess' associated with well, nearly everything. As the ruler of the Earth, Sea, and Sky, Hekate presides over the physical realm, the heavens or spiritual realm, and the underworld . She can shift between the past, exist in the present, and foresee the future. Perhaps her most notable correspondence, however, is the belief that she is the Mother of Witches- the protectorate of outcasts, rebels, and upstarts, particularly those that are women.

Sailors once prayed to the goddess to grant their ship safe passage without the threat of treacherous storms, Midwives would ask for her blessing to help illuminate a child's way into the world, warriors plead to her for a merciful death and mourners would ask that she guide their loved ones safely to the land of the dead. To modern witches, she has become a symbol of female suffrage, a protector of the oppressed, and her many aspects may be integrated into virtually any occult practice, regardless of the specific path you may choose to follow.

With the approaching Day of the Crossroads (November 30th) as Hekate's official festival day according to tradition, but this year's lunar eclipse allowed for the perfect opportunity to charge the crystals used in these invocation / prayer candles as correspondence to the goddess. These 2oz shimmering charcoal colored soy wax candles in silver tin were made with hand selected essential oils, crystals, and herbs specifically chosen for their symbolism and correspondence:

•Clove

•Carnelian

Seven adornments to represent the seven points of Hekate's crown the goddess is depicted wearing in front of the Vatican. Included with each 2oz candle is my own personalized prayer / invocation on hand made antiquated papyrus with Hekate relief on the reverse side for decorating your shrine or altar.

As Hekate is often notably worshipped and celebrated on the 30th day off all months, these candles are ideal all year long, though I personally only create them in small batches througout November. They are currently on sale in the shop as a ready made holiday gift idea or gift for yourself.

I also wanted to offer other ready made items for the holidays and explore new methods of divination, runic languages, and interpretation. This wood burned Theban rune set is currently a work in progress that I hope to be finishing soon as one such offering and will be updating with the progress and finished product when listed.

I've always felt it tacky to make two posts in one day related to my work but I had to share this, as I've been trying to perfect the Galaxy design for my unisex Galaxy bangle bracelets for the past three years and this most recent one, I feel, captured what I had envisioned this entire time!

It came about as I was fulfilling an order for one of my trans customers who I adore and am honored that they showcase my work! As they are available in two sizes, these handmade to order color changing / glow in the dark bangles are designed to look amazing and fit everyone- they may also be fully customized and personalized as usual.

It's not that I hadn't watched videos nor that I wasn't aware of the technique used to create the galaxy effects- my desire to combine glow in the dark pigments with color changing thermogenic pigments made it a tedious process. The layers had to be done precisely and very thin, with each pigment on a separate layer with clear resin added in between to ensure each one 'popped.'

I don't usually toot my own horn when it comes to my work, but I am very proud of how this bangle came out and I can't wait to send it to its owner. These bracelets are currently on sale in the shop and you will find a video showing the color changing effects in action as well as the ability to select your own glow in the dark color.

Greetings everyone! A Quick Update as Move Into My Favorite Season!

This is just a reminder that there are SEVERAL designs in the shop that are retiring at the end of this month and are discounted now to 40% as a last chance offer for anyone interested in them. I totally appreciate his support and attempt to assist me with his work and I know anyone interested will boost his ego as he is WAY worse than I am when it comes to downplaying the quality and impressiveness of his creations.

Many of the designs I am retiring are older pendulum designs in favor of revisiting and revamping some of them and offering more styles, such as the one above, made with natural Blue Apatite and Aquamarine embedded in protective thermogenic resin that reacts to the atmospheric temperature for a variety of colorful transitions. A 'Witch Shop' Owner's Plea Before Casting That Love Spell

I don't personally offer many spell kits, mojo bags, etc. In my shop and avoid selling my 'Craft', as in, I don't advertise or list spell casting among my offerings, though I have had a couple of customers specifically ask if I could perform a spell I offered as a kit on their behalf for whatever reason. This is because I personally believe that the journey is just as important as the destination in witchcraft and many of the spell kits / spells I do offer are designed in such a way to soothe, relax, release, and heal throughout the process. Honestly, in addition, I really don't want the responsibility associated with performing magick on someone else's behalf for many reasons. The strength of my intent is not going to be as strong as yours, for example. Even if I effectively channel your energy, creating that personal connection between the beneficiary and the intent or purpose of the spell work is incredibly difficult at a distance. I'm always wary of other shops advertising this type of service- the sad truth of the matter is our little niche has been permeated by scammers, con artists, and frauds looking to take advantage of anyone looking for a solution to whatever it is that has them at this low point in life. I will tell you, more often than not it's love spells that the customer is after, and they are apt to find many options on Etsy, the platform I primarily do business on, and beyond.

I distinctly think of one potential customer who had contacted me one night obviously very upset. My heart went out to her immediately - I could just tell by what she was saying and how quickly she responded to me that she was in a state of panic and extreme emotional distress. She isn't the only one, but she stands out from the others as her desire to win back her ex lover was so strong it was evident that she would do anything and (potentially) pay anything for a chance to get things back to the way they were in her love life.

I am a human being. I have been given this amazing opportunity to pursue my passion to share my creations and spiritual / metaphysical knowledge with the world through my work. I understood a long time ago that this also meant I had a responsibility to do my best to help those in need and never knowingly harm, much like a doctor commuting to the Hippocratic oath. This may make me a flat out horrible business woman, but I would rather not sell someone on something I don't believe is going to help their situation. In fact, love spells usually make things worse. I'll get to that momentarily.

"Is there a spell to make her see what she has done wrong and to make her love and want me again?"

I allowed this customer to explain to me the situation and took the time to hear her out after telling her that I'm sure that she could find something like that elsewhere and someone else willing to sell her a spell kit or cast that spell, but I urged her to take a deep breath and talk to me before she did something that she would regret.

Thankfully, she spent the next hour or so explaining her situation and elaborating on everything that has happened in her relationship. It was one of those on again / off again things that so many of us get trapped in. Understandable, considering once you establish that strong bond of love, whether one sided or not, it's incredibly hard to cut that cord and move on especially if you're so emotionally invested (and maybe even financially invested) in this other individual who has had your heart for so long you can't imagine giving it to anyone else.

This PSA goes out to the broken hearted of all walks, as this is a universal experience for anyone who has been in love. There may not be someone to stop you from pursuing what you think will fix everything as I did for her, but I'm hoping if you read this, you'll think twice about acquiring and performing love spells or any magick in hopes that it will provide a quick fix to any situation.

•Beware the Opportunistic Con / Scam

Our field is flooded with scammers, con artists, and frauds that exclusively cater to those in this sweet girl's position and anyone who is vulnerable due to emotional distress or panic. Whether you need a love spell like she did to win back her ex or a quick fix to get more money in the bank or what have you, beware those that have used spiritual advisory and witchcraft as a means to peddle you their high priced garbaged. This is a tough one, as you may have a hard time deciphering what is 'legit' and what isn't, but there are some signs and facts you can look for when browsing these shops / websites.

-They promise / guarantee results within a specific or unrealistic time frame

Magick takes time to manifest and the true story is that nobody has a 100% satisfaction guaranteed spell book. More often than not, when spells come to fruition, it often isn't quite the way you would expect it to, either. Anyone promising a quick fix to anything is most likely just trying to take advantage of you when you are vulnerable and you better believe there will be no money back guarantee if said garbage doesn't work for you. OR, they like to do one of these:

-"Oh, your situation is worse than I thought. You're going to need this and this, with a huge $$$$ price tag."

This starts a never ending cycle of you pouring money into this scammer who will make you believe that it is necessary to do so. That maybe if you did throw them an extra $500 for their thingamajig that you will get what you want. This is only the beginning, as when THAT doesn't do it for you the way you would like, they will claim some other interference, maybe you're cursed or under psychic attack, and need something else even more expensive and elaborate to take care of that before you can even get to what you went to them for in the first place. Anytime someone proposes this type of thing, stop while you're ahead and don't provide them with a guaranteed cash flow that you aren't benefitting from at all. Also, be wary of ANY seller who makes outrageous claims- overnight changes, curing cancer, etc. Are unrealistic expectations.

•Understand What You Truly Need

Maybe it's time to consider an alternative path. The customer I spoke about DID ultimately purchase a tarot spread, which I was much more inclined to do for her than some love spell to win back this girl who has repeatedly broken her heart over the past few years and obviously got a kick out of it, the way she told it, as it was ALWAYS her doing the breaking up and blocking, starting all the drama. I told her I would much rather give her a spell to find her twin flame / soul mate than to win this person back who has perpetually been hurting her and taking advantage of her kindness.

Sometimes it's time to cut the cord before more damage is done. I understand it isn't easy to move on from someone you have loved and cultivated a relationship with over a long period of time, regardless of the negative energy that has invaded the relationship, we DO tend to focus on the positives, which leaves us a bit biased and blind to what we could have and deserve to have.

Take a moment if you are in a relationship situation like this, are beginning to question your current relationship, or are considering taking the next step in any relationship. Sit down with a pen and paper. On one side of the paper, write down all the things you love about that person. All the ways you think they have been the light in your life (be honest and give credit where credit is due!). Now on the other side, list the negatives or cons in your relationship. If one list is noticeably longer than the other, depending on which side it is, it may be time to consider breaking it off, giving things another shot, or taking things to the next level. Ask yourself;

-Do they support me in what I do, even if they don't understand or necessarily agree with it? (So long as it is something healthy -obviously if they're supportive of a bad habit or detrimental behavior, this is more like enabling and not a good thing)

-Do they have my best interests at heart more often than not?

-Do they show that they care? Even in the smallest of ways?

-Could I call them my "best friend?" Am I honest with them?

-Are they honest with me?

-Do they lift me up more than they put me down?

-Do you want the same things in life / have similar priorities?

-Is our relationship valuable to them the same way it is to me?

•LOVE SPELLS NEVER WORK THE WAY YOU WANT

This is the cold hard truth about love spells. Forget the warnings in movies and books, as it is hard to believe them or even take them as a legitimate warning when you haven't had the displeasure of experiencing what a love spell can do for yourself. I have, so you don't have to. This is MY story:

Of course love spells are very appealing when you're a young and naive teenager. I had a strong crush on this guy I had low key been stalking since middle school. I don't know why I liked him so much. Part of it I'm sure was the way he looked (hey, I'm being totally honest!) And how he came across to me. We had absolutely no interaction with each other outside of passing each other in the hallway. He had no idea who I was.

I had just borrowed a copy of Silver Ravenwolf's 'Teen Witch' (which is honestly a fantastic book for teens and young adults just starting to delve into Wiccan practices, which she follows exclusively) from a friend of mine and thought I would try the super simple love spell in the book figuring I had nothing to lose. All it consisted of was focusing on the subject, your intentions, writing their name on a piece of paper, folding it up and placing it under your pillow. I would sleep on that paper for months. I was in middle school just about to go into my freshman year of high school when I performed the spell and would forget about it up until the day it worked, a few months into my freshman year of highschool, when my crush was in the graduating class of that year- literally my last chance to make an impression.

I had gone to a local band's concert that was performing at the school's auditorium one day after classes and was just about to leave when my crush randomly approached me and started talking to me. It was like the whole world just stopped right there. I couldn't believe it. The thought of that spell crossed my mind briefly as we exchanged phone numbers.

Over time and getting to know him, he admittedly wasn't exactly my type. He was still someone whose friendship I valued, but not someone I could really put any effort into dating. About the time I realized this, his personality took a complete 180° turn for the worst. He was stalking me. Blowing up my cell phone (which was a prepaid piece of junk at that time I really couldn't talk on for more than a minute without paying a fortune), so much so one evening when I was at Jukido Jujitsu practice that I came home to something like 32 missed calls and 17 voicemails from him, each one showing gradual frustration and anger. This scared me. I knew I had to confront him about it and break this off before it got worse.

I caught him in a populated area of the school the next day before homeroom- more like he came up to me out of nowhere like he knew I would be passing through that part of the school that day- and I confronted him about the calls,attempting to gently explain to him that I wasn't interested in a relationship and I would like to continue being friends. He blew up at me and threw me against the brick wall of the school, trying to kiss and touch me in front of every single person that walked by. I wish I was making this up.

Thankfully a teacher came and pulled him off. Nothing much else was done. I did my best to avoid him and cut him out of my life entirely from that point on.

I don't know if it was the love spell or if this would have occurred anyways. All I knew was that what had been originally a very sweet, big hearted guy that was soft spoken with low self esteem became a monster in a matter of weeks. The take away from this and what I have personally seen with other's experiences with love spells is that they tend to bring out the worst characteristics of the person they are cast on and you have to be really careful what you are actually asking for when thinking about 'desire' and 'passion.' This intent can quickly lead to stalking, obsession, and not in a good way. Another customer of mine who originally came to me for my Forgiveness Spell Kit and had the desired results also, unbeknownst to me, had someone else perform a love and desire spell in addition to it. The guy that she was reverted into an obsessed jerk who decided to spread rumors about her on social media and beyond, blocked her on all platforms, and would get her friends involved in his quest to make her life miserable. Her story reflects and embodies so many I have heard over the years from others who have dabbled in such spells. When they work, it's just never quite what you had in mind.

So if you came to this blog post in search of a love spell for your personal situation or came across it when you have maybe considered one in the past or know someone who has, please take a deep breath, consider your options, and don't do anything that you may regret down the line. Remember that you are deserving of all the love, respect, support, and happiness one could give another. What an interesting thing to have happen on a full moon. 🌕

A couple weeks ago my aunt gave us her hand me down television and two wooden display hutches. As I currently only have mostly hand me down furniture from family. My husband was putting some of my materials on the shelves and in the drawers. My aunt had cleared the shelves and every drawer was empty save for this folded fortune cookie slip that had been tucked in the back of one of the drawers .

This fortune cookie slip tucked into the back. My uncle, who passed away a few years ago, would hold onto things like this, despite how mundane they were, for sentimental reasons. I imagined he had tucked it into that drawer thinking that my aunt, Marilyn, would come across it at some point. This was something I would never expect from him from the impression he gave me when he was alive, but it seemed to be common between them. The real show stopper was when I flipped it over.

Regardless of how it may have gotten in the back of that drawer without Marilyn seeing it when she cleaned out those hutches, I had a notion my uncle Les' spirit was nearby and felt nothing but the warmth of his smile.

Reworking Gendered Energies

When getting started with magic, especially magic influenced by Wicca, nearly everything is immediately split into a gender binary. To many people, this system is reductive, exclusionary, and sorely outdated. Here’s how we can rework it and make it useful.

Projective vs. Receptive

When a spell ingredient is listed as masculine or feminine, it rarely has anything to do with actual gender. Reducing the idea to its root, we find that gendering an ingredient is shorthand for depicting the way its energy moves, projective or receptive.

Projective energies, formerly deemed masculine, work their magic by going out from the source and changing things. They banish, they influence, they alter.

Receptive energies, the feminine, draw things in. They work their magic by serving as a beacon/sponge. They attract, they collect, and they accumulate.

With this in mind, we can swap out gender for these meanings and have an extra layer of nuance to our spells. If our spell is focused on, say, drawing in wealth (receptive,) we can use ingredients that focus on bringing the outside in. If we’re sending out influence to convince somebody to give us that new job (projective,) then we can focus on ingredients that reach out. Maybe your spell wants to cast out and bring in, and you can use a balance.

This can also work for deciding the type of spell you’re doing. Think of how candles and wands are typically “masculine” and cups/chalices are “feminine.” To me, that sounds a lot like typical candle spells are projective and jar spells are receptive.

Traditional, binary ideas of gender have a shrinking place in modern day witchcraft. That said, if we can take the gendering that’s already been done and rework it to something more inclusive and more useful, then we can all benefit. What’s nice is that the past few decades of aggressively gendering everything means half the work of deciding which-herb-is-which is already done for us; all we have to do is change our vocabulary.

Gardnerian Wicca, or Gardnerian witchcraft, is a tradition in the neopagan religion of Wicca, whose members can trace initiatory descent from Gerald Gardner. The tradition is itself named after Gardner (1884–1964), a British civil servant and amateur scholar of magic. The term “Gardnerian” was probably coined by the founder of Cochranian Witchcraft, Robert Cochrane in the 1950s or 60s, who himself left that tradition to found his own.

Gardner claimed to have learned the beliefs and practices that would later become known as Gardnerian Wicca from the New Forest coven, who allegedly initiated him into their ranks in 1939. For this reason, Gardnerian Wicca is usually considered to be the earliest created tradition of Wicca, from which most subsequent Wiccan traditions are derived.

From the supposed New Forest coven, Gardner formed his own Bricket Wood coven, and in turn initiated many Witches, including a series of High Priestesses, founding further covens and continuing the initiation of more Wiccans into the tradition. In the UK, Europe and most Commonwealth countries someone self-defined as Wiccan is usually understood to be claiming initiatory descent from Gardner, either through Gardnerian Wicca, or through a derived branch such as Alexandrian Wicca or Algard Wicca. Elsewhere, these original lineaged traditions are termed “British Traditional Wicca”.

Beliefs and practices

Covens and initiatory lines

Gardnerian Wiccans organise into covens, that traditionally, though not always, are limited to thirteen members. Covens are led by a High Priestess and the High Priest of her choice, and celebrate both a Goddess and a God.

Gardnerian Wicca and other forms of British Traditional Wicca operate as an initiatory mystery cult; membership is gained only through initiation by a Wiccan High Priestess or High Priest. Any valid line of initiatory descent can be traced all the way back to Gerald Gardner, and through him back to the New Forest coven.

Rituals and coven practices are kept secret from non-initiates, and many Wiccans maintain secrecy regarding their membership in the Religion. Whether any individual Wiccan chooses secrecy or openness often depends on their location, career, and life circumstances. In all cases, Gardnerian Wicca absolutely forbids any member to share the name, personal information, fact of membership, and so on without advanced individual consent of that member for that specific instance of sharing. (In this regard, secrecy is specifically for reasons of safety, in parallel to the LGBT custom of being “in the closet”, the heinousness of the act of “outing” anyone, and the dire possibilities of the consequences to an individual who is “outed”. Wiccans often refer to being in or out of the “broom closet”, to make the exactness of the parallel clear.)

In Gardnerian Wicca, there are three grades of initiation. Ronald Hutton suggests that they appear to be based upon the three grades of Freemasonry.

Theology

In Gardnerian Wicca, the two principal deities are the Horned God and the Mother Goddess. Gardnerians use specific names for the God and the Goddess in their rituals. Doreen Valiente, a Gardnerian High Priestess, revealed that there were more than one. She said that Gardner referred to the Goddess as Airdia or Areda, which she believed was derived from Aradia, the deity that Charles Leland claimed was worshipped by Italian witches. She said that the God was called Cernunnos, or Kernunno, which in Celtic meant “The Horned One”. Another name by which Gardnerians called the God was Janicot (pronounced Jan-e-ko), which she believed was Basque in origin.

Ethics and morality

The Gardnerian tradition teaches a core ethical guideline, often referred to as “The Rede” or “The Wiccan Rede”. In the archaic language often retained in some Gardnerian lore, the Rede states, “An it harm none, do as thou wilt.”

Witches … are inclined to the morality of the legendary Good King Pausol, “Do what you like so long as you harm no one". But they believe a certain law to be important, “You must not use magic for anything which will cause harm to anyone, and if, to prevent a greater wrong being done, you must discommode someone, you must do it only in a way which will abate the harm.“

Two features stand out about the Rede. The first is that the word rede means “advice” or “counsel”. The Rede is not a commandment but a recommendation, a guideline. The second is that the advice to harm none stands at equal weight with the advice to do as one wills. Thus Gardnerian Wiccan teachings stand firm against coercion and for informed consent; forbid proselytization while requiring anyone seeking to become an initiate of Gardnerian Wicca to ask for teaching, studies, initiation. To expound a little further, the qualifying phrase “an (if) it harm none” includes not only other, but self. Hence, weighing the possible outcomes of an action is a part of the thought given before taking an action; the metaphor of tossing a pebble into a pond and observing the ripples that spread in every direction is sometimes used. The declarative statement “do as thou wilt” expresses a clear statement of what is, philosophically, known as “free will.”

A second ethical guideline is often called the Law of Return, sometimes the Rule of Three, which mirrors the physics concept described in Sir Isaac Newton’s Third Law of Motion: “When one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body simultaneously exerts a force equal in magnitude and opposite in direction on the first body.” This basic law of physics is more usually today stated thus: “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” Like the Rede, this guideline teaches Gardnerians that whatever energy or intention one puts out into the world, whether magical or not, some response of equal effect will return. This teaching underlies the importance of doing no harm—for that would give impetus to a negative reaction centered on oneself or one’s group (such as a coven).

In Gardnerian Wicca, these tradition-specific teachings demand thought before action, especially magical action (spell work). An individual or a coven uses these guidelines to consider beforehand what the possible ramifications may be of any working. Given these two ethical core principles, Gardnerian Wicca hold themselves to a high ethical standard. For example, Gardnerian High Priestess Eleanor Bone was not only a respected elder in the tradition, but also a matron of a nursing home. Moreover, the Bricket Wood coven today is well known for its many members from academic or intellectual backgrounds, who contribute to the preservation of Wiccan knowledge. Gerald Gardner himself actively disseminated educational resources on folklore and the occult to the general public through his Museum of Witchcraft on the Isle of Man. Therefore, Gardnerian Wicca can be said to differ from some modern non-coven Craft practices that often concentrate on the solitary practitioner’s spiritual development.

The religion tends to be non-dogmatic, allowing each initiate to find for him/herself what the ritual experience means by using the basic language of the shared ritual tradition, to be discovered through the Mysteries. The tradition is often characterised as an orthopraxy (correct practice) rather than an orthodoxy (correct thinking), with adherents placing greater emphasis on a shared body of practices as opposed to faith.

What to do if witchcraft suddenly gets way too intense

1. FINISH WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

► DO NOT walk away from an uncompleted ritual

► DO NOT walk away in the middle of a spell

Grab your notes and close everything down. Dismiss any spirits or entities you are working with. Close down the circle. End the ritual. Diffuse the energy of the spell and close it down. If you were enchanting an item, announce over it that it is closed and nothing more may come in or out.

Spells and rituals are little portals of power; if you leave one open without closing it, all sorts of things could get screwy and come through.

2. End any spooky/witchy atmosphere immediately.

Blow out all the candles.

Put out all the incense.

Turn on all the lights.

Turn off spooky chanting music. Turn on some happy music or better yet, a non-supernatural television show or movie you love.

If you were enchanting an item, immediately put it in salt.

3. Don’t destroy the items/notes you will need later.

Trust me, do not throw away the spell you wrote or the objects you were working on. If things go wrong in the future you will need these to fix the problem.

► Immediately write down exactly what happened. Write down every deviation from the spell that you did. Write down exactly what you said and saw during any visualizations. Write down exactly when things started to get freaky.

► If you were enchanting an item, keep it in a black bag filled with salt until you are ready to deal with it.

4. Cleanse.

Use an energy cannonball to purify the space you were working in. Burn rosemary and bay leaves to fumigate the area, or spritz a premade water solution if you can’t have smoke. Pay special attention to all ritual tools.

If you feel the need to, cleanse yourself by visualizing the power of the smoke enveloping you and driving away any bad vibes; or take a shower if you really feel something has gone wrong.

5. Get out of the area you were working in.

Go to another room. Leave the house if possible. Seek the company of others or turn on the television if you are alone.

6. Do mundane things for a while.

Eat a nice meal. Drink a big glass of water. Go for a jog. Do some chores. Put anything magical totally out of your head. Absolutely do not focus on how weird things just got.

7. When you are ready, return to the area you were working in.

Relax yourself and judge the energies within the room. Are things still ‘creepy’? A heavy-duty cleansing is in order. Do you feel as if someone else is there? Open a window and command it to leave - if it does not, more fumigation or a banishing is required.

Judge your ritual tools and determine if they will need additional cleansing. If you were working on an object, determine if it has been corrupted or if anything is wrong with it. If so, put it back in the salt and deal with it as soon as you can.

8. Take a break from witchcraft for a couple of days.

9. Figure out what went wrong.

Fear is never a good thing. There is a difference between embracing the darkness and being afraid.

► Fear can be caused if an entity showed up you were unprepared to deal with.

► Fear can be caused if your intuition (or perhaps a spirit ally) was warning you that what you were about to do was a really bad idea.

► Fear can be caused if you tap in to powers that overwhelm you.

You need to figure out what went wrong. It isn’t a situation where you can say “oh well” and try something else later - because you screwed up, and next time you may not get an adequate warning before things go to hell.

Reblogging because this is a problem within the practice and community that takes the concept of coven and turns it into a cult before you blink. Everyone can be a victim or a proponent of this without even knowing!

Toxic Covens

Many witches choose to become apart of a coven at one point or another. Unfortunately, many witches come into contact with covens that foster toxic practices and relationships between members. The following are a few warning signs that a coven may be toxic.

1. New members are belittled and treated as inferior to established members.

If you join a coven and are silenced, treated as a novice (if you are not one), ordered to perform menial tasks for other members, and/or given fewer rights within the group you should carefully consider whether this coven will help you grow as a Witch or if it will hinder your education and personal practice.

2. Coven leaders demand unreasonable amounts of time dedicated to the coven.

Coven leaders can make or break the health of a coven. If a coven leader demands that a Witch be available to them at all times or deliberately violates a Witch’s agreed upon participation commitment that may be a sign that the coven and its leader are too demanding of its members. There is always a time commitment associated with being a member of a coven, however members should not be required to live their lives around the coven’s needs. Covens should strive to be a supportive and mutually beneficial spiritual group, and that includes respecting members’ other commitments.

3. The coven limits the type of witchcraft that members can practice.

Some covens are specialized, and that is perfectly okay. However, if a coven tries to regulate or dictate the type of Magick that its members practice and study on their own time it could be a red flag. The benefits of being in a coven rarely outweigh the hindrance of having one’s practice limited by others.

4. Coven leaders place more importance on serving them than on practicing your craft.

The majority of problems that Witches encounter when joining a new coven usually have to do with the intentions and goals of the coven leader(s). Unfortunately, some Witches start covens or choose to lead covens to benefit their ego more than to benefit their fellow Witches. You may be able to spot a leader like this if you notice that they focus on their own practice during lessons or coven time rather than on the development of their coven members and/or insist on being treated in an exceptional manner.

5. The coven limits your social contact outside of your practice.

If the rules of a coven prevent a Witch from interacting with their family, friends, co-workers, or acquaintances in the way that they normally would then that coven should be joined with caution. Healthy social interactions outside of one’s practice is important to mental and emotional well being and a coven should not interfere with the social lives of its members.

instead of jars to bury your spells in, my i suggest the idea of peat pots planters?

not only are they biodegradable, they are useful for many different things. you can grow herbs and starter plants or use them to bury a home protection without the fear of broken glass rising to the surface, or your jar staying in the ground for a 100 years. they also come in many different sizes as well. from large to very tiny

and you can even make your own from left over toilet paper rolls for a byproduct option that lessens garbage going into landfills.

there are plenty of cheaper, earth friendlier options available to us, as witches, at our disposal. it is up to us as a whole to start making better earth friendly choices, to modernize the practice. we are not from the middle ages and tradition has nothing to do with glass jars - we have the knowledge in modern days to realize how harmful the practice of burying jars actually is, we have resources to change that as well.

~•~Easy Spell Oils & Infusions In Your Instant Pot! (& 'The Old Way'•~•

I just received my COVID vaccine first dose yesterday and my arm is quite sore (ridiculously sore- so far my biggest and only complaint, other than the pain, I feel fine!) and wanted to take a break from the more tedious projects this weekend, focusing more on my Craft and creating items for 'Blessed Boxes'.

Last year, my aunt and uncle purchased us a full sized Instant Pot as a housewarming gift and since I received it, I made it a point to find some sort of use for it instead of letting it collect dust. What I discovered was that this a fantastic appliance to have on hand for the crafty witch, as it is practically a multifunctional, electric, magic cauldron (with the added bonus of quick and easy pressure cooked meals!). I have used my Instant Pot for making everything from Lip Balms and homemade Ointments, to candles and potions, and now quick spell oils / infusions using my own homegrown herbs and flowers and various dried plants I've stored for different purposes in my work.

But what if you don't have an Instant Pot?

You may still create your spell oils and infusions the old fashioned way! Grab your dried and fresh herbs, flowers, and whatever else you wish to add and let's make some magick!!

I will go in depth here so that you may choose the right herbs and flowers for manifesting your will and desires / serving whatever purposes you would like your oils to enact for you. First, these are the basic items you will need for this endeavor:

•Instant Pot (Disregard if doing the old fashioned way)

•4-8oz Mason Jars with Lids (glass, as they will be pressure cooked. Plastic may melt or crack)

•5mL or 10mL essential oil bottles or jars (for storing your oils once finished. You can always keep them in their jars)

•Herbs & Flowers Of Choice (more on this below)

•Oil of Choice (approx 2 cups will do it, I admittedly eyeball it)

•Cheesecloth, Sifter, Old T-Shirt (Strainer, for removing plant matter)

•Small Funnel (For bottling)

•30 mins or so to derp around your kitchen

~°~Optional Stuff~°~

•Essential Oils -For all intents and purposes, we are NOT creating our own essential oils, but oil infusions. (Edit: Through pressure cooking, you are essentially extracting components into the oil!) If you have ready made essential oils on hand you would like to use for a specific purpose or to enhance the aroma of your spell oils, you may add them to your jars before or after bottling. 2

•Labels

•Crystals (for putting in the bottom of your containers once your oils are finished to infuse with crystal energy)

•Mortar & Pestle (can use spoon or wooden popsicle stick as I didn't break out the old M&P for this lazy-arm project)

~•~Choosing Your Carrier / Base Oil~•~

The type of oil you choose for your spell oils is entirely your choice. Most choose Olive Oil, as it has direct historical and symbolic correlations with worship, prayer, and magick / manifestation, and was believed to be sacred by the ancient Greeks and Romans. Realistically, Olive Oil is expensive and not an option for everyone. Feel free to experiment with the different types of oils available on the market. I have compiled a short list of common oils you may purchase at your local grocery store and their corresponding magickal purposes.

•Olive Oil- (Expensive, Slightly Viscose, Light Aroma) Aligns with the element Fire. Ruled by the Sun. Ideal for healing, protection, fertility, and peace. Considered an 'all purpose' oil.

•Safflower Oil- (Inexpensive, Liquid, Subtle to no Aroma) Aligns with the element of Fire and ruled by the Sun. Used for love, health, wisdom, introspection, fertility, protection, motivation, and attraction.

• Jojoba Oil- (Mid Range, Viscose, Slight Aroma) Ruled by the Moon and aligns with the element of Water. Ideal for desires of love, healing, dream work, and for increasing psychic awareness.

•Sweet Almond Oil- (Mid Range, Mildly Viscose, Slight Nutty Aroma) *NOTE: I generally steer clear of Almond Oil based oils myself for allergy reasons, so the previous information comes second hand. Ruled by the planet Mercury and aligns with the element of Air. Ideal for knowledge or truth seeking, second sight / third eye enhancement, divination, prosperity, and success.

•Castor Oil -(Inexpensive, very viscose, strong aroma) Readily found in your pharmacy or grocery store's medicine aisle as a lubricant and laxative, Castor Oil is better suited for beauty treatments, but it may be used as a carrier oil for your spell blends as it aligns with the element of Fire and is ruled by the planet Mars. It is primarily used for purposes of banishing, protection (psychic and otherwise), exorcism, and dispelling negative energy / curses or hexes.

•Coconut Oil- (Inexpensive, Viscose if Non- Hydrogenated / Liquid if Fractionated, Strong Coconut Aroma) Fractionated Coconut Oil is most often used, as Non-hydrogenated is chunky and must be broken down which can be done at home, but it's a process I haven't tackled myself. Unfortunately, Fractionated Coconut oil is more expensuve than non hydrogenated, so if you would like to use Coconut Oil and Fractionate it yourself you can save some money that way. Coconut Oil aligns with the element of Water and is ruled by the Moon, commonly used in blends dealing purification, cleansing, and protection.

• Grapeseed Oil - (Inexpensive - mid range, liquid, unnoticeable aroma) Also ruled by the Moon and aligned with the element of Water. Grapeseed Oil is beneficial for the skin and hair as it has natural vitamin E and antioxidants. It may be used for blends dealing with prosperity, clarity, developing psychic ability, fertility, and cleansing.

• Avocado Oil - (Expensive, Slightly Viscose, Light Aroma) Aligns with the element of Water and ruled by Venus, Avocado Oil also offers benefits to the skin and hair, often used for purposes of love, attraction, glamor, and sexuality.

None of these in your cabinet or available to you? Don't worry about it- sure, it's nice and ideal to select a carrier oil that identifies with the purpose of your spell oils, but it's less important that you match them to your intent and more important that you don't empty your bank account or trigger an allergic reaction. Pick the oil that suits you in terms of price, sensitivity, and smell, as any inherent aroma will be a part of your spell oil. I often use regular, good old Canola or Veg oil- inexpensive, functional, and essentially hypoallergenic should I choose to sell my spell oils or put them in mystery boxes.

~•~Choosing Your Herbs/Flowers~•~

This is a VERY concise, selection of herbs and botanicals that share thematic magickal properties you can integrate into your spell oils. I specifically avoided more obscure plants that would not be found in your favorite grocery store, farmer's market, or growing in your backyard. However, for your own research, I have included links to sites with more information regarding what may be used for what at the end of this post. You may also choose your herbs and flowers for their smell or color.

~•Notes Before Beginning•~

*You may also choose to add essential oils to bolster the smell, enhance your spell oil, or in place of an herb or flower you may not have on hand, but have an essential oil for. This is totally optional.

*You may use this same recipe / process for creating edible oil infusions - they too make fantastic gifts that are decorative and tasty if you are less inclined to use them spiritually. In which case, you may want to limit your selections to one, two, or three edible herbs / flowers for your infusion. I have included a link to a recipe for edible olive oil infusions using the instant pot below. Be sure to select edible plants and herbs if you plan to ingest your oil :X

*Choosing the corresponding moon phase, time of day, etc. For the purpose of your spell oils may enhance their efficacy / success rate!

Ye Old-Non- Instant- Pot Way

•Fill your jars about 3/4 of the way full with your oil of choice. If you have chosen to use a mortal & pestle to combine and mash your selections for infusion, do so now and drop them in your jars.

•Stir and add into your jars with any other components you desire while focusing on the desired purpose for your oil. Cap and seal. Label and date with the purpose that you have set and place them in a secure location.

•Return to your spell oil in a couple months (ideally the three month anniversary of the creation date). The longer your oil is allowed to sit and infuse, the stronger it will be in aroma and metaphysical strength. :)

Instant Pot Magick Way!

Fill the bottom of your Instant Pot with about 3 1/2 cups of water. You will be using the standard steam release top for this.

•Add your herbs and flowers into your oil of choice in the jar. Again, you may use your mortar and pestle to combine them while visualizing / focusing on your intentions or purpose for the oil, otherwise you may simply mix everything together with a spoon or stirring stick. Stir in essential oils if you desire and seal your jars before placing them into the water inside your Instant Cauldron (Do not add any crystals at this point.) Make several at once if you can to save time, especially if taking advantage of a full moon or special date! I sometimes will inscribe a sigil on the jars or attach one on paper. You may even recite a blessing or invoke a deity for dedicating your oils to for future use as ritual oils working with them and offerings :)

•Seal/twist the Instant Pot until locked. At this point, I have read two different methods that yield pretty much the same results. However, one requires at least three days of running your Instant Pot and while ultimately yielding stronger, aromatic oils. This, in my opinion, takes all the pros out of using an Instant Pot because it's not really instant, is it? Instead, you can:

•Lock your lid. Put your Instant Pot on the 'Pressure Cook-High' (custom) setting. You are basically just creating your infusions through the high pressurization of the pot in this process with the heat, so you will set the timer to 0 mins. Push start. Let the magics happen.

•Let your instant pot pressurize until it says it is 'cooking'. Once 'cooking', you can press cancel or allow your oils to warm for some time, visualizing your purposes, desires, and intentions building within the pot as your spell oils infuse.

•Press cancel to end the cooking cycle. Allow your instant pot to release pressure through the steam release valve.

•Wait 30-45 mins before removing your spell oils.

From here, you will want to strain the plant matter out of your jars to bottle and label your spell oils and add crystals if you wish for use as ritual oils, fragrant body oils, anointing oils, etc.

I chose 10mL & 30mL Amber essential oil bottles for bottling with stainless steel roller balls in a pack of 24 for $12 on Amazon. You can purchase nifty aluminum screw cap 10-20mL glass bottles (better than corks, which will need to be sealed using a waterproof sealant or wax before storing liquids long term / safely) on Amazon (MaxMau & Vivaplex Brand) in packs of 24-36 for less than $10. My local Dollar Tree carries 10mL glass aluminum screw cap bottles in packs of 6 or 8 for $1, but even just using empty glass mason jars will suffice for personal use, it's totally up to you!

For my three spell oil jars, I created a Multipurpose Anointing Oil, Money Oil, and Love / Romance oil that will be available in my intuitively chosen mystery boxes and in the shop once I've let them marinate for a while. :)
