To elaborate further... this idea that SE is giving "mixed signals" because the directors say the story is changing & Kitase says the bones of the story will remain the same... It's not really a contradiction if you're paying attention.

All the iconic scenes and locations that people know from the game will be there, but their outcomes and context will be different. Part 1 did the exact same thing and now Part 2 and 3 can take it even further. This could mean Aerith goes to the Temple of Ancients earlier or later. It also means her outcome at the ToA could be completely different.

We've literally seen this exact scenario play out twice now. Once on the plate, as we see Biggs and Jessie "die" but Biggs is alive at the end. And lastly in Zack's iconic final stand. Same scene. Same aesthetic. Same iconic dialogue. And yet.... completely different outcome.

There's no point in being in denial about it when it's right in front of your face 💀
