Mauthausen for those interested;

With a holocaust survivor I captured in 2010 or so for the annual Befreiungsfeier. Soon there won't be any time witnesses left.

We visited a woman named Anna Hackl who everyone called Anni. Her property was not far from the concentration camp. She hid two escaped people in what was called the "Mühlviertler Hasenjagd" (Verfilmung 94 -Hasenjagd – Vor lauter Feigheit gibt es kein Erbarmen)

Visited Schloss Hartheim where people with disabilities got euthanized.

And listened to survivors who came back to teach and prevent forgetting.

It's definitely worth visiting even as holiday as the landscape surrounding the important history is one of the most peaceful and beautiful ones which gives someone the ability to learn and process all impressions and the darkness of some places and is in that sense very different from other parts of austria.

and while such experiences can inspire an individual to work for a change its important to realize what motivates a movement and if it's goal is chaos (ego) or freedom, justice and peace. Other cultures or local subcultures can hold similar ignorant beliefs based on religions, inequality or hate towards today's positive aspects of European culture.
