working charm&incantation formula
An incantation or a charm is a magical formula intended to trigger a magical effect on a person or objects. It’s a fast but sure spell that you say outloud to make it work.
In my native witchcraft traditions (armenian&georgian) we use a lot of incantations, because there’s nothing stronger than the power of words. But what’s the formula for the perfect effective incantation? We use just 3 ingredients: rhythm, rhyme, and imagery.
Rhythm turns a whisper into a strong energetic drumbeat, rhyme helps you remember and add strength to your voice, imagery binds the intention.
The rhythm. Make each word sound like a drumbeat when you say it outloud. Recall how shamans use the sound of drums to create their magic. You incantation, when said outloud, should be that drum. Your words should have their own rhythm, power, proper emphasis.
The rhyme. Make it rhyme, make it easy to learn by heart and repeat. It only adds to its strength if you say it outoud yourself, without peeking in a book.
Imagery. Use rich metaphors. Incantation is as much poetry as it is magic, so it's very important to make it sound vivid, and so that each word is there for a purpose, not just too fill the void. Compare sickness to a black bird, kill it with a stone and throw it in a fire to make it go away. Be vivid, be creative.
Bonus, an example of an old georgian incantation aganst a cold:
Surdo metsvia sadilad, Cold visited me at dinner. Ra gavuketo sadilat? What shall I make it for dinner? Magrad shevkar, shevpachiche, I tied it [i.e. the cold] Shavsa dzaglsa gadavkide. Hung it on the black dog, Dzagli Khidzed gavarda, The dog fell over the bridge, Surdo tskalshi chavarda. The cold fell in the water.

discreet & fast ways to enchant things
don't forget to do it with intention in mind
- lightly tapping with your fingertips (positive, overall warm intention)
- stroking lovingly and gently (calming, relaxing, putting to sleep. works good when enchanting things for my loved one)
- breath hot air on it (activating my crystals and sigils this way, as if breathing life into them)
- shake it in your fist (energizing, bravery&bravado, filling with strength and power)
- throw it like you hate it (not so discreet, but works fast for negative intention, cursing the item)
- hum to it (intention depends on the song/tune)
to cleanse off intention:
- gently breath cold air on it (cleansing my crystals this way, as if blowing dust off of them)

Powerful spell ingredients that are specifically NOT herbs, oils or crystals
Because magick works best when there are actual real memories and strong emotions tied to the items.
Tumblr media
to attract love in life/increase your or someone else's happiness:
- your (their) most favourite candy - a colorful ribbon from a gift wrapping - some kid's love confession letter you found in a library book
to speed up things:
- burnt matches - a watch stem - bus/train tickets - a few torn off sheets from a daily/weekly calendar
to slow down things:
- a snail shell - a queue ticket - a pull-tab from canned food - a few drops of formalin - dried fruits
to protect/threaten:
- tin soldiers - old bullets - cat nails (naturally shed, obviously. inspect your cat's scratch post) - dead wasps - insect cocoons - glass bottle caps (you know, these sharp metal ones)
to banish:
- a few drops of sanitizer - absorbent coal - a rejection letter - a one-way ticket (away from your location)
to curse:
- a traffic/parking ticket - bones from cooked fish that you almost choked on - your own tears, brought by sincere rage/misery - flowers from a thrown-away bouquet - the most obnoxious ad/spam mail you've ever received - a test paper, marked F and mercilessly corrected by a sadistic teacher Use your senses, your emotions, your own memories and your imagination: what does this item make you feel, what did it possibly make its owner feel? You can add to the list whatever feels right to you. Remember that emotions and memories connected to the item are always a powerful magick fuel, especially in spellwork. Note: some of these things are obviously region-specific. For example, living in a place that once was the war epicentre, it's a common thing for me to stumble across old rusty bullets while taking a walk in a suburban forest. It may be different for you, but that only means you have certain things which are only unique to your place.

My personal most useful piece of advice for spellcasting
I practice for more than 10 years already, and, honestly, if I were to give one (1) most useful piece of advice about the way I do my spellwork, I’d say that for getting the desired outcome, preparation and planning for the spellcasting is just as important as the actual ritual, because the preparation is already a part of the spellcasting. You’re already working on the manifestation of your desired outcome when you’re simply drafting and preparing, because you begin to think about it and focus on it.
Don’t neglect the drafring and preparation if you really want the spell to be powerful enough to shift the reality.
Spend some time just making a draft of the spell in your journal. Divide the page on individual aspects of your desired result. For each, write all your ideas, possible correspondences, any things that you think might help with this certain aspect of your desired result (”make things faster = fire?? burnt matches? clock hands???” or “new job means new beginings, so should definitely cast it on the new moon. check the day of the week correspondence later. dont forget to use tarot imagery, the fool definitely will come handy”, etc).
Be as messy as you want, it doesn’t matter, because, again, by focusing and preparing for the cast you’re already doing the half of the work.   Carefully and mindfully preparing for a spell alone usually provides, like, 50% of the desired result for me.

Witch Tips 21
1. Schedule your spells
I’ve mentioned before that it’s very helpful to keep a pocket day planner in your grimoire or with it. You don’t have to have one, but if you choose to then it’s a great place to implement this tip. Some spells take multiple days to do, you want to make sure you’ll be able to do it each day. Some spells have to be done in certain moon phases, so be sure to schedule those around in the correct times. Not to mention days, hours, zodiac signs, etc can also have an impact on when you need to perform a spell. Scheduling it helps keep you organized and helps you to remember to do the ones with specific time requirements.
2. Trance gifs can help with meditation
Sometimes it’s really hard to get into a trance when you need to for a spell or when you’re meditating. Find a nice, calming and serene trance GIF to help you get in the zone. Make sure it matches the mood you’re going for.
Bonus: You can find ones with colors that correspond with the spell you’re doing.
3. Sigils don’t have to only effect you
You can create and activate sigils for a multitude of reasons. I mostly see witches use them for their own needs, which of course is 1000% fine, but it’s not the only choice. Put a good luck sigil on the sidewalk so everyone walking over it charges it and benefits from it. Put protection sigils in the dirt around forests to help keep them safe. Draw sigils on or under desks at school to help other people succeed in their exams. You can use your magick to make the world a little bit better.
4. Center yourself after grounding
While not entirely necessary, many witches find it greatly beneficial to center themselves after ground. Centering can realign your emotional waves and connect your body back into itself. This can be as simple as doing some grounding yoga and then meditating afterwards, that’s my preferred method.
5. Make protection amulets out of your protective weapons
I don’t mean to jump from a peaceful, mindful practice right into stabbing bitches, but sometimes that’s just the way it goes. Unfortunately, some of the people in this world can have terrible intentions. If you’re in a place where you feel like you need to carry a knife, pepper spray, knitting needles, etc to protect yourself, take it a step further by charming those objects. Put charms on them to repel ill intentions. Put wards on them to repel negative energy. Protect yourself. I care about your safety and well being.
6. Get some gloves for handling cursed objects
Whether you’re cursing the objects yourself or trying to break the curse that’s already placed on them, you’re going to want some gloves. These can be special gloves you use just for handling cursed objects, or the gloves you use to wash dishes. Either way, be sure to cleanse them with sage smoke or crystals afterwards. You don’t want the negative energy being absorbed into your body. And while sometimes you have to touch things to find out if they’re cursed, it’s still a good idea to put the gloves on afterwards if you continue to work with the object.
7. Be sure the crystal jewelry you wear is water safe
I don’t know if this comes from the fact that I live in a rainy state or because I always forget to take my jewelry off before I shower, but water safe crystals in your jewelry is a must. You wash your hands all the time, you don’t want to accidentally damage your crystal rings. You could get caught in the rain, or sweat a bunch, or jump in a snowbank, or get splashed by a wave, or forget to take them off before a shower or bath. Make sure the crystals you wear on your body are going to be safe with your lifestyle.
8. Bring your grimoire to the library and have a wonderful adventure
Libraries are so much fun!! No one cares if you just sit there for hours and hours and no one is going to bug you about writing notes. They exist for a reason. Who cares if it’s not university that you’re studying for, no ones even going to look twice. Grab as many witchcraft books as you want and write down anything you need in your grimoire. Your BOS is essentially made for this. It’s so nice and peaceful, enjoy.
9. Tips for drying your own herbs
It’s wonderful if you’re able to grow your own herbs! Make sure when you’re drying them for spell work, you’re giving them the best treatment.
Dark areas work best
It must be a dry location or else you risk molding or spoiling the herbs
Hang them upside down with all leaves facing the same direction
Placing them in a breathable or holey paper bag can help catch anything that may fall off due to breakage and help you keep the area clean
Different herbs take different amounts of time to dry. Check on them often to see if they’re ready.
10. Before casting a spell or making a potion ask yourself, “Why?”
I’ve talked a lot before about the importance of clarifying intentions and having a clear head when doing magick. But this time, I’d like to talk about something else that loosely relates to the same topic. I recently saw a potion recipe that was supposed to get rid of scars and my first thought was, “But scars are so cool…” And then I read a little further and saw that it was also supposed to help fade moles and freckles and that really got me thinking. I have two little moles on my neck that look like a vampire bite. I used to hate them because I was taught that moles are ugly, but overtime I learned to actually really like them and genuinely think that they’re cute. Looking at that potion recipe, I began to feel empathy for the people who may see that and write it down and begin the process of ridding their skin of these little “imperfections.” And if you take anything from this tip, I want it to be this: Before doing anything that will effect your body, ask yourself why you’re doing it. Even things you do outside of magical practices. Ask yourself why. And if the answer isn’t overwhelmingly positive, then maybe reconsider what sort of spell or potion you really need to do. Do you need to vanish your scars, or do you need to feel better about your body? Maybe there are other things that will be more effective in aiding you. Just something to consider. I care about your wellbeing and I don’t want anyone to be mean to you, especially not yourself.
Thanks so much for reading my latest #10tips. As always, please send an ask my way whenever you want to say hi or ask me some questions. I’m here to help! Have a magickal day.

Which Direction to Face when Casting a Spell
Another gift of nature and an important factor to consider when initiating a spell is the direction in which to face. Compass directions north, south, east, and west are very significant when casting a spell. By facing the proper direction, you are utilizing the vibration or energy that it offers. The powers of the four directions are a free gift of nature that is often overlooked.
North
North corresponds to the element of earth. Face north for health issues, healing of the body, spirituality, increasing or developing your intuition, using some type of divination, for transcending the physical and trying to communicate with someone telepathically, and in asking for guidance from whomever or whatever you call your higher power. This is the most powerful direction
South
South corresponds to the element of fire. Face south for love issues, relationships of any kind, creative and artistic pursuits, anything of a romantic or emotional nature.
East
East corresponds to the element of air. Face east for career issues, strength, clarity, new business opportunities, financial matters and any endeavor requiring extra energy, healing of the mind, new beginnings.
West
West corresponds to the element of water.  Face west for letting go and moving on, increasing self-esteem, forgiving yourself or someone else, cleansing, unconditional love.

Time For A Witchy Checkup
Tumblr media
Hey you! Stop scrolling for a moment, it’s time for your checkup. Take a moment to check each of these things and fix any problems you might find.
Wards and Shields
Are your special spaces still warded properly? Are the barriers still strong? Are there any holes or damages?
Are your personal shields still there? Do they need refreshing? Are there any gaps in coverage? Can you still do your work through the barrier?
Altars and Tools
Are the altars clean and organized? There’s no dust?
Are there any offerings that have been sitting out that need to be refreshed or disposed of?
Is there any unusual energy in any of your consecrated items?
Does everything feel charged and ready?
Your Body
Have you taken all of your meds that you need today?
Have you been eating/hydrating properly?
Getting enough sleep?
Does your body need anything from you right now to feel a bit better?
Entities and Other Things
Are there any regular offerings you give that you could/should check off?
How are things with your familiar? Your companions? The local land wights? The spirit(s) of your house? Do they need anything from you to keep the relationship strong, if you have one?
Are there any unexpected entities hanging around/taking up anchors? (Give your knickknacks a good check for this, as well as any old toys and jewelry.)
Do you have any promises, dedications, or oaths you’ve taken up? Have you been maintaining your end of the deal/is there anything you can do to be progressive about it?

NOTE: Keep in mind that these are all opinions from my own personal path and study, they are by no means set in stone. Feel free to apply your own associations instead of mine. If you associate wands with air instead of fire, by all means use wands for air. My correlations are not your correlations, and this is not me bashing your path or telling you that you are wrong. I am just sharing my grimoire page.
Circles can be as much a part of a spell as anything else. They can be physical, visual, or astral. Astral being debatably visual by some definitions.
Tumblr media
Chalk
just a circle of chalk but can be more complex with symbols, runes, and sigils
Crystals
Needs a lot of crystals, but surrounds the area with energy. Would be very powerful
Flowers
Evocative, beautiful. Probably very good for blessings and spells having to do with strong emotions like love and happiness
Salt
DO NOT DO OUTSIDE!! Salt can hurt the fertility of the earth and kill plants.
Good for protective magic or an affordable option
Add herbs to the salt for extra potential
Liquid
Good for connection to water or even as an offering to a god of wine or spirits.
Make sure you have enough!
Warps wood floors, best done outside or in a basement especially in an apartment.
Group
Very powerful, the circle formed by joining hands.
So powerful and evocative that it is popular outside of witchcraft. (Prayer circles, football, circling up in schools)
From personal experience this circle works VERY well on its own without anything else. The power of two people sending out an intention is 10x stronger.
Tumblr media
Takes even more focus at least for me
Easier with a tool
Wand: Great connection with fire
Staves: Great connection with fire and/or Earth
Athame/Sword: Connection with air
Hand: Connection with self/ earth
Takes more focus
Tumblr media
Takes practice in astral travel
Infinite possibilities for symbolism and complexity
often can be intuitively made. Perfect when you aren’t sure what you want.
I am uncertain how easy it is to use for physical plane effects. Perhaps this circle is better suited to spiritual and emotional needs as well as personal.
It is debatable what circles are specifically used for. Some witches use them towards protecting them from entities. Some say they are used to “create sacred space” defined as sanctifying the space, some say it is a container. I will go over all three.
Tumblr media
Some believe that when you do magic you become vulnerable, and so a circle for these people is designed to protect you from negative energy and entities while you work. But this depends on if you believe in negative entities.
Tumblr media
This concept is often misunderstood. Most pagans believe that everything is sacred, but some do not. For those who do believe this, there is a feeling that this method is wrong. Everything is sacred, so how can we make something sacred? The issue is not in practice but in definition for many of these pagans. What they mean by “sacred space” is rather creating a safe space, a place where you can focus and work freely without fear.
Though many also consider this to be a cleansing thing, creating a circle of neutral energy that will not be tainted by the energies of the world. The problem with this concept is that, yes it may stay clean while it is with you, but eventually you have to let it go out into the world where it will still get tainted. DON’T HELICOPTER PARENT YOUR ENERGY XD. Jokes aside, having clean energy to work with may be easier for some, so this ideology still has it’s uses.
Tumblr media
The latter concept is that of a container that can hold the energies you raise. The idea is that it is easier to raise enough energy to fill a small space than it is to raise enough to fill a large space. This too has it’s problems. If you need a shit ton of energy, does this mean you need a huge circle?
Tumblr media
I believe that it is all of these things.
A circle, first of all, protects from anything that may try to get in. It creates a safe space for the caster, a place where one can feel comfortable and focus on the task at hand.
A circle creates an energy void. Void in my practice is where we draw energy from. So having a circle where I can step into the raw energies of Void is very useful. I can then shape those energies into ones directed towards my purpose.
It also creates a container to work with and shape those energies. Many will say you cannot step out of circle, but while I do believe you may carry the energies you raised out of the circle, I doubt it would be all of it. This is like opening a door into a room full of gas and letting a little bit out. It may have an effect, but it wont release all of the gas. This is why we have the practice of Doors.
A circle I believe can contain a lot of energy, and to make a huge circle that you are trying to fill yourself would be a very long and arduous task. I managed a circle the size of my living room just barely on the night of the last super moon. I could feel the energies in the space, but there were small areas that felt empty. That was a couple hours of work.
You do not need a large circle to make immeasurable good happen.
A large circle is best for multiple people who can work together to fill it. Make your circle just big enough to move around in.
Tumblr media
Doors are created in several different ways, the only one I know currently is to cut a door with your athame. I’m unsure how this functions exactly yet. I have yet to study this in great detail. For now it’s just best to get in the habit of having everything you need with you if at all possible.
I hope that this is helpful to you guys or enlightening towards how other people practice if you don’t do it the same way as me. Feel free to ask me any questions and if I don’t have an answer that gives me a new reason to study!
Please post your own methods as well! I would love to see how others do it. <3

Meditation tips
- Burn some incense. Lavender and holy basil work really well for getting you into a meditative mindset.
- Listen to some calming music. Focus on the music rather than any intrusive thoughts. I like looking up rainforest sounds on Spotify.
- Chant some mantras. I usually end up taking snippets of words and phrases from rituals and spells to use for this. (Ex. “I am protected by your might; O gracious Goddess, through the night”- Scott Cunningham)
- Take a bath or shower beforehand. It can symbolize the cleansing and purifying of your body to permit you to concentrate without distractions. Bonus points if you use herb sachets and crystal waters!
- WEAR SOMETHING CONFORTABLE! I love meditating in sweatpants and a baggy shirt. If you’re not comfortable, your clothes will be the only thing on your mind.
- Draw sigils on your skin to bring out your calmness and focus.
- Burn some nice candles. Use blue candles for calmness and tranquility. Scented candles are quite nice for meditation, too!
- If you have the time, cast a circle before you meditate. The act of circle casting can even get you in the mindset to meditate.
- Use some crystals. Smoky quartz is good for grounding, clarity, and cleansing. Lapis lazuli is good for peacefulness, past life recal, and insight.
- Drink some tea. Nettle and chamomile are both good choices. For some extra omph, use moon water or crystal water.

MC’s Guidebook: Spells
Tumblr media
So spells are clearly a witches thing. Or also used in several cultures for healing etc. However, not many newer witches understand what a spell really is or how they really work. Heck, probably half of the community knows. I don’t think I am the only correct source, so please do look around and get more information.
Let’s get started.
———————–
What Is a Spell?
a form of words used as a magical charm or incantation; a state of enchantment caused by a magic spell; an ability to control or influence people as though one had magical power over them(google).
For our sake, a spell is simply used with words, ingredients, items and writing. Not all have to be involved though. And most of the time they aren’t used by everyone.
Do Spells Work?
For the most part? Yes. They do. However, sometimes they won’t and that’s okay too. It just means you need to do something different or figure out how it could have gone wrong.
What if a Spell Goes Wrong?
Try a spell reversal. A lot of people have resources on this, it’s a good thing to research especially before you start spell casting.
What Can Be a Spell?
Anything. A spell for bringing love to you all the way to cursing someone who has wronged someone else. These all account as spells.
Should I Use Protection?
Ignore how I worded that. But yes. You should use any form of protection you can from tailsmans to casting a circle. Even a small chant will be better than nothing.
A Spell of Mine Didn’t Work… What Do I Do?
Take notes on what happened. Give it more time to fully manifest. Be Patient. If you feel it genuinely didn’t work you can try again, but do give it time. It might not have worked in the way you wanted it to.
How Do Spells Work?
Most of the time it’s all about energy, intent, visualizing the outcome you want, and manifesting it. While you don’t inherently need tools or ingredients(some will say otherwise) they can be helpful to give your spell an extra oomph you need especially if you don’t have a lot of energy yourself.
What Do I Need For Spells?
A Book and a Pen. All to take notes and write out your spell. Again, you don’t need anything at all for spell casting. They may be helpful, but not needed at all.
Can I Write My Own Spells?
Abso-fucking-lutely. There’s nothing stopping you.
Can I Use Spells Posted By Others?
For the most part yes. The ones posted are usually meant to be used for others to help them. I typically use the spells posted to help me make my own though so it’s up to you.
How Do I Know My Spell Worked?
Did the outcome you want come? Then yes. If your unsure then go search out some answers. Tarot, or some other form of divination can be helpful.
Are Spells and Rituals the Same?
In my own personal opinion? No. To others they may be the same, but for me they have different energies. A ritual is set in stone, copied almost every time you reach a certain point. A spell is something you can do on a whim. But again. My Own Opinion. Others may have something else to say about that. It’s good to look into it though.
How Do I Write My Own Spells?
Here’s a little template for you to help as I’m not the best at wording most of the time:
1. A title for your spell
2. The Intentions you have for the spell
3. The Date, time and Moon Phase(moon phase and time are optional. Date is helpful.)
4. The Items/Ingredients you need(if any at all)
5. Any words/chants you plan to use or used.
6. Instructions!
Anyways, I wouldn’t take too much spell writing advice from me as I usually write out my spells after I cast them.
Again, I’m not a full expert on this process. I probably never will be, but I hope this is slightly helpful for those who are trying to figure it out.
Sincerely,
The Sleepy Witch
