All right, I'm crawling back in to post some pictures from Melbourne and filming locations from The Pacific. Please note that A. these pictures are not great (Flinders Street and Flinders Street Station are really busy and it's hard to find somewhere to stop) and B. a LOT has changed since they shot here back in 2008/2009, so it was really hard identifying anything. If I hadn't found articles talking about how they closed down Flinders Street for like two days, I don't think I would have recognised much. They've built lots of modern buildings and such, and obviously it would look different in the show due to set dressing, camera angles and lighting and such.

Anyway, I'm putting the pictures under the cut for anyone that's interested, as well as any info on what they may have used that location for from my memory/comparing the few screencaps I've got saved (I don't have access to the Melbourne episode atm).

Okay, so this is like the one place I properly recognised right away from the show. This is right off Flinders Street Station (station on the left, street on the right), and where we see the boys eating ice cream in the show.

Flinders Street Station is pretty y'all, and very old time-y which I love! Hard to photograph because busy, and also most of the inside is modernised and/or closed off with ticket gates. But they totally shot here.

So this is Flinders Street, with the station and the area where they're eating ice cream on the left. I'm guessing this is where they filmed the tram scenes as well. They still do run some older-looking trams along Flinders Street, but idk if they're the same they used in the show. I was going to try and go on one, but I haven't gotten the chance to.

I'm here, crawling out of my little hole to say that I am currently in Melbourne (in fact, I've been in Oz for almost 6 months y'all, it's been a wild year), so guess who's gonna look up filming locations for The Pacific and sob about walking the same ground as not only Robert Leckie, but also my boy James Badge Dale and the rest of the cast and crew?

#This is probably going to be the closest I'll ever get to either of those people I am shooketh #I had forgotten like all of the show was filmed down here in Australia with Melbs being the backdrop for all city locations #So like watch me run down Flinders Street with the soundtrack playing and trying to figure out if I recognise anything #Spilling the peaches #Other people: Oh my god Melbs is so trendy and cool I love it here #Me: ROBERT LECKIE WHERE #I may not be an active member of any fandoms anymore but The Pacific is still near and dear to my heart #Also like not to be dramatic but I'm very emotional about this city for no reason #It's been a long day okay I just got here

Not to be dramatic, but I haven't been on Tumblr in literal months and I’m only back to yell about Leckie, so there's that. I finally finished reading “Strong Men Armed”, written by the main dude himself, and his author’s note is one of the most iconic things I’ve ever read.

“[names of a major and other author] insists that there were no snipers riding the Japanese tanks annihilated in the D-Day attack at Peleliu. I have said there were, because I saw them and shot at them, as did many of my comrades. Major Hough’s authority was my own battalion commander, who was quite properly some distance behind the battle, whereas Mr. McMillan’s is a tank colonel who went over the battlefield after the fight was over. Certainly there were no snipers on the tanks by then; they’d been shot off or pulled down from their slings of camouflage netting.”

“[...] I have usually preferred the account of a man who has been in the battle to that of another who has not, even if that person happens to be the commander of the unit involved.”

#Hey can you still swear on Tumblr?#Let's find out #Also on another note Strong Men Armed was a great book okay #But a tiny bit dry sometimes so I read it in sections and took breaks in-between #Lots of numbers and weapons and somewhat racist accounts of the Japanese and other non-white people #Still leagues better than other history books from the era though #Anyway I'm gonna crawl back into my hole now #Got some notes to finish for a seminar tomorrow lmao yes I am still in uni it never ends #Kidding I have a year and a half left it's getting close #Spilling the peaches

Whenever a Band Of Brothers or The Pacific actor shows up in a different show, especially in newer ones, I always get really hyped.

#Catching up on 911 Lone Star and Buck from BoB just turned up #I love Neil okay #Can't spell his last name but he's so good and I love seeing him in new things #Also yes hello I am alive just... Not using tumblr much lmao #Working 18 hours+ a week and studying full time so things are a lot lmao #But I'm having a good time I love my job and I'm so lucky that I got this kind of position before I'm even a full teacher #Anyway byeee #Spilling the peaches
