It’s been a crazy artistic ride since the last Rob The Original update.  A lot of people ask how he became so skilled at carving hair, and he always reminds his fans art came before barbering.  So Rob decided to expand his portfolio. From pizza to salt-he sees art in everything.

Rob also found himself on Cedric The Entertainer’s Barber Battle where he battled top barbers from around the nation including the personal barber of LeBron James.  We won’t spoil it for you (Fine. He wins!), but Mr. Original left pretty happy with the whole experience.

While all of this is happening Rob continues to travel the globe with the Babyliss Pro team showing everyone his tools of choice, and why they have taken his hair art to the next level.

Lately Rob The Original has been showing his fans he’s not just a barber, but more of an artist turned barber.  He’s car was looking pretty dirty lately, but instead of having a kid write “wash me” on the back he decided to add his own flavor. 

Thus “Dust Art” was born. From Kim Kardashian to Tupac Rob has tackled many dust projects that people have a hard believing they are just simply dirt on a window.

Rob Ferrel (@robtheoriginal) was working at a barbershop in Texas eight years ago when local kids starting bringing in requests for hair art. “At first it was simple patterns and designs, but now if they bring me any image, I can replicate it in their hair,” Rob says.

Today, Rob is a professional hair artist and founder of Rob the Original Barbershop in San Antonio. As the local San Antonio Spurs (@officialspurs) enter a rematch with the Miami Heat (@miamiheat) in the NBA Finals tonight, requests for his popular basketball-themed styles continue from Spurs and Heat fans alike.

Rob’s toolkit includes standard barber clippers and razors, but also colored eyeliner for the finishing touches. “I create every shape and shade on the portrait—like a puzzle,” Rob says. “You can only do so much with hair, so the eyeliner perfects the picture and makes it look realistic.”
