I will forever love the idea of Hunter having survivors guilt, especially after the death of flapjack.

There were hundreds of grimwalkers. And every single one of them have died, except Hunter. What makes Hunter so special that he gets to live but the others don’t? And just think about it, he was meant to die! Not just because it’s his fate as the golden guard, but also in Thanks to Them. Belos was supposed to yet again kill another grimwalker, but then flapjack sacrificed himself for Hunter to survive. Just think about the survivors guilt man. Hunter dying was always alluded to throughout the show, and when he actually does die, Flapjack saves him and dies instead. Imagine Hunter thinking that he should be the one that’s dead, not flapjack. It was his fate to die, it always was, just like all the other grimwalkers, and yet flapjack died instead.

It’s already bad enough of the guilt from being the only grimwalker to survive, but then to add to that someone else had to die for him to live.

While Hunter kinda positions himself in a way so that he can slide down the hill without much tumbling or any injury.

Yeah. I know this is probably just because he was the one holding them or whatever, but I love this trope of his. Him being more capable and experienced at things and knowing what to do in different situations. Having a high skill set from his training as the golden guard. Many times before it’s shown Hunter being more skillful at things like combat, agility, survival instincts, etc. So just let me have this :(

Man, I just realized something. So the group is on the Titans skull right now, and the grimwalker graveyard is right below it. And with the collector being all mad now what if he starts destroying things and Hunter accidentally falls down there. He would then get to see all of those skeletons of past golden guards and maybe even his creation room. I love the use of Luz’s and Hunter’s body language in this scene.

In this moment the two of them think that those witches were dropping dead. Luz looks around holding onto herself horrified because she has never seen something like this before. Whereas Hunter is just standing there looking into one direction without much reaction because he has already seen Belos kill many witches in the past.

Also the subtle difference in their facial expressions. Luz looks like she is disturbed and feels bad for that witch having to suffer. Whereas Hunter looks upset, like he’s used to seeing this by now but it’s still horrible each time.

That’s all. I just thought the difference of body language and facial expressions in this scene is neat. It’s good characterization. It shows how Hunter’s used to death, while Luz is not.

Actually, thanks for bringing this up because I kinda have a theory of my own from this.

Okay, so with Flapjack sacrificing himself he becomes a part of Hunter and gives him his magic, right? I have a theory that maybe before Belos left Hunters body, he also took his soul. Like he does with Palismen souls. Maybe he took it as some extra strength for him to continue on into the boiling isles. Now Hunter doesn’t have his own soul, so Flapjack gave him his soul so he can continue living. Hence the brown eyes! You know what they say, “The eyes are the window to your soul”. His magenta eyes were his own soul, and the brown eyes are flapjacks soul, hence the ability to do magic, and why the Palismen are following him around, they could still sense flapjacks presence.

Tldr: Hunter has flapjacks soul now but not his own.
