I don't know but the idea of Shuri and Bucky having that kind of bond where they wouldn't hesitate to drop everything to help and be there for the other is so precious to me.

Bucky being the type to ask how she has been doing, if she has been eating, sleeping, what has she been working on lately. Almost thinking of himself as a self appointed protector/big brother surrogate (even if Shuri doesn’t need protection and could most likely crash him in a blink if she wanted to now)

And Shuri loving the normalcy of spending time with him like one would with the fun uncle who comes to visit from time to time (even if above mentioned old uncle used to be a supersoldier killing machine she helped getting out of brainwashing and built a vibranium arm for) teasing him and trying to convince him to give up on his utter refusal to adapt to the modern world and use anything remotely newer than the 90s.

Add to the mix Namor being jealous of how close and familiar with each other they seem to be. Just livid because he can't wrap his mind around the fact of someone else. A foreigner, a white man. Being able to make Shuri smile and feel understood aside from him.

He has no idea they see themselves as just friends, borderline family on occasions. The annoying-affectionate type.

And also that what Shuri enjoys more than anything, is roasting the asbolutely living headlights out of Bucky, and him letting her get away with it, ("You do know that if you want something to happen between you two, you actually have to do more than stare until he gets the message and asks you out... these aren't the 40s anymore. People actually don't wait around for the other to start noticing they like them... and it’s not like you are getting any younger." "I just asked you to take a look at my arm, Shuri.") for his not so subtle growing crush for his flying partner.

Among Wakanda Forever's many MANY achievements is its superb indictment of white feminism. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss' character is the classic superficially "empowered" woman in a high-level corporate job who does nothing to empower any other woman--who in fact only seeks to infiltrate and sustain the same colonial patriarchy that oppresses most of the world for her own benefit. Contrast this with the true feminism of Wakanda and Talokan, where women are not only on equal footing with men, but play an active role in creating and maintaining societies that would have no room for such backwards notions as misogyny in the first place. Wakanda Forever is a masterpiece.

I find it so funny that we are getting more and more confirmations about namor and Shuri’s bond having romantic implications before cutting it and focusing solely on grief and mutual trauma. And it’s funny because of alllll the things people were saying to us to discredit it or make us feel crazy or shitty for seeing it that way.

The writers guild podcast telling us that we had a glimpse of how close namor and shuri could have been before Ramonda’s death. Meaning that we were supposed to pick up the implicit/romantic undertones.

And then in the wakanda forever podcast sharing that Namor was going to kidnap shuri in the T’challa script. Telling me that him bonding with shuri was always an important element and that the hades and Persephone vibes were always there. Especially knowing that two black panthers were going to come out of this film, so shuri recreating the herb and consuming the bracelet (pomegranate) could have very well been a part of the original script.

And I have to repeat myself, that them cutting the explicit romantic elements between namor and shuri and focusing on their bond/mutual trauma enhances their romantic potential. Namor and shuri are doing the very things that make romantic relationships work and thrive. Also telling us that their connection isn’t just purely attraction, and Isn’t just simply getting along, they connect on much deeper levels and they can handle and empathize through those deeper conversations. They mean so much to each other as their foundation, so the progression to romance feels natural and long lasting.

Shuri having to choose to kill the leader of a group/nation that attacked them and lashing out at Namor because this time mercy is not the answer and she hates him and she hates herself and she hates everything and she's going to carry that weight...but Namor is there to carry it with her?? It would be like accepting her mother had to die. That Namor had the right. And she blames Namor for her mother's lack of foresight and others' lust for vibranium and the fact that humanity hasn't evolved enough to avoid this unnecessary pain. She wants her mom, just as he did. And somehow, once the scratching and punching and screaming has subsided, he holds her as she weeps. Namor realizes he was wrong. Her rage pales in comparison to the enormity of her true spirit. He can't watch the light fade from her eyes and love die in her heart. He would do anything to save her from becoming him.
