Life is moving faster and faster these days. While living in Alaska we got pregnant, then moved to Washington on some undeveloped land, spent the last few months trying to get utilities in order, and are still living that RV life currently. The tiny house is coming along, but progress has recently come to a slow grind, even more so now with the arrival of that Alaskan baby. Still, in all the chaos, little moments of quiet, like in this photo, pop up.

Took a trip to the Matanuska Glacier this past weekend. This 27 mile long glacier winds it’s way back into the Chugach range, and terminates here in this magnificent wall of ice.

“Happy”
Simple enough, can’t argue with that. If you are lucky enough to be sneaking away to a little ski cabin in Alaska, then you are lucky enough. This is one of multiple little red cabins available for rent up at Hatcher Pass, just outside of Palmer Alaska.

I have been living in a, somewhat remote, cabin for almost 5 months now. In that time I have been graced with this view only once. That being said, that one time was spectacular! What a treat to be able to step out onto your front porch and witness this grandeur!

Thought I'd share one more from yesterday evening. The colors were just too great not to share. It's not even the sunset, it's the sky opposite the setting sun. . Also, anyone have the experience when choosing a photo in Instagram, upon selecting it, when it moves to the edit phase, you can watch it visibly change brightness and saturation. It dulls considerably. Maybe I need to upload a bigger/smaller file?

Today we strapped on the snowshoes and trekked out along the horse trail. Not sure how often horses are using it, or anyone else but us and the moose.  Can’t argue with the views though, sure is pretty up here.

Things are starting to finally feel wild up here. After almost two weeks of not seeing any large wildlife, only tracks in the snow, this lady came by with her two calves yesterday afternoon. When I noticed her, she was about 5 feet from the window I was sitting by munching on some plants that the melted snow had exposed.  Super cool!

The fall colors are starting to fade from the landscape as the subtle winds shake the last bit of foliage from the trees. Soon it will only the the golden hour light to warm the landscape. Winter is coming.

This little gem of cabin has the most epic view from the front porch. Perched just high enough to see the mountains looming just the other side of the Matanuska river.

Can’t think of anyone I would rather be here with then this woman. We got married up here this past July and are now living on the same property where we exchanged our vows. Life is pretty crazy, and even in this moment I can’t really believe it all.

Every day here has been different, because of that, even more beautiful than the day before. No one day has been the same up here in Sheep Mountain, the light is never the same, the clouds are always different, the snow comes and go, it’s amazing how dynamic this landscape has been. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Snow is in the forecast off and on for the coming... well, probably for months.
We couldn't be more excited!

Well, today marks the first week of our time here in Alaska. Hard to believe it’s only been a week since we left Portland Oregon, and our life there, behind. Excited to see what the coming weeks and months hold for us in our new Alaska home here in Sheep Mountain.

Cotton candy sunset on last nights evening walk down the runway. Today is day 4 here at the Alaska cabin and I find myself wondering if this ever gets old.

Reconnecting to something old and simple, so far, is feeling effortless. It feels wild out here, and in turn I think is awakening something I felt I had lost in the city.
Perhaps the biggest obstacle I face currently is striking the balance between unplugging out here and engaging in some of the things I love - namely, taking photographs.
