I'm deleting this blog soon, due to AI and shadowbanning forcing my hand. This is where you can find me.
I am mostly on Bluesky these days. It's like twitter but without algorithms. I no longer use my twitter except to cross post sporadically.
I have a main Patreon and a NSFW Patreon. I am going to post a lot more on patreon (free posts, even!) as a space for the various essays I used to post here.
I am on Instagram. I don't use it a lot and rarely check my messages, but if you're looking to follow an account that isn't going to flood your dash, I'm your guy.
Same goes for my Facebook account. I dunno, maybe I'll start using that more? I hate what the internet has become.
My main website is Rosalarian.com. Do people still visit websites? It feels like I'm spending $400/year on this thing for no good reason except that I don't have time to rebuild a cheaper/free website to replace it.
30,000 followers on here, and I know it's unlikely that even 10% will follow me elsewhere. That's not a slight on my followers, that's just the way it is. A good number of them won't see this before I delete my blog. Plenty of you aren't on the social networks I'm on. A lot of smart people will see the decline of several major social media sites as a sign to get off social media entirely, and I envy you.
Social media, tumblr in particular, was once a beautiful thing. It was connecting people, building community, sharing information and art in ways we never could before. It hasn't been that way for a long, long time. I'm so fucking sad to lose this tumblr. It was really special for a while, and a big part of my life in my 20s.
FOSTA/SESTA passing was a big nail in the coffin for my time on the internet. A lot of websites "complied in advance" with the fascist laws and banned adult content. KOSA could push this even further, and when paired with laws that seek to label "existing while trans" as inherently "adult," this trans artist might soon be pushed off the internet entirely. But it's not just the laws. Companies with big near-monopolies like Apple and VISA have made their own internal rules banning some or all adult content. Not all of my work is smut. But that doesn't matter. One drop of smut is all it takes to "contaminate" my entire career. But I don't regret making smut. I refuse to think of it as a bad, career-killing idea. Smut isn't killing my career. Puritans are. I will not take the blame for what they are doing.
And then there's the AI thing. To have my work taken from me without my consent and fed into a machine that seeks to put me out of a job, all while feeding the audience a hollow, inferior facsimile of "art," it makes me angrier than just about anything. It's a resource-wasting plagiarism machine, and I want no part of it.
Well, I should go attend to rebuilding something that resembles an internet presence. Feel free to go through the archives (if tumblr even lets you) and save any of my comics or art that you like. I'm trying to make sure everything is on my website, too.
In true tumblr fashion, I will end this with a Doctor Who reaction gif.

Even though they made an "option" to opt-out of being included in the AI data sale, I am still leaving.
1: They most likely have already "packaged" up the data and this opt-out thing seems like too little too late. I don't trust that they'll actually honor it, and I definitely don't trust that they'll go back and delete stuff they've already bundled up. I think this is meant to fool people into a false sense of security.
2: I've already deleted every image post I've ever made. Again, probably too little too late, but I did what I could.
3: They're still transphobic. They're still sexphobic. As a trans person making adult content, this place no longer works for me. I can't really do much anymore. It's become actively hostile.
I'm giving it another week so I can let as many of y'all know where else to find me, but then it's all going away.

I don't know if this helps. There's a version of the post about possible mid journey horespuck that you shared, that has... Is it nightshade or glaze, but apparently you can apply it not just to your current work, but to your shared work out there. The world of good humans would be poorer if you disappeared from it.
It's not just the AI thing that's forcing me to leave. It's mostly the fact that I've been shadowbanned. As far as tumblr is concerned, I am a bot. Trying to find my own posts is extremely hard, and I can't view my own archive. Since the Nightshade trick has to be done manually, and I have art going back 15 years, it's impossible to get it all, so I'll just have to delete it.
I'm not going to delete my account, because I'm sure I'll need to have access to it so I can deal with future bullshit as a result of being on this site once upon a time, and I don't want anyone to take the URL. But it's going to be empty soon. Just getting my digital affairs in order.

Hi Ro!
Since you said you're deleting Tumblr soon because of the shitass decisions they've been making, I just wanted to throw this message in a bottle out to you:
I've been following you around the Internet since the middle-days of Yu+Me. Your art has had a huge impact on me, as well as watching you grow and change, and go through all the crazy things you've found through in the last decade and a half. I think I have every one of your books, as well as your tarot deck.
I will really miss you being around the Internet. I wish I could know you in real life because you just strike me as such an amazing person. I met you once, at SPX and got to tell you that the poppy in my tattoo sleeve is a tribute to Yu+Me. I hope I can meet you again some day, if I ever make it out to your party of the country.
I would make this longer, but I'm not very good at goodbyes. I will always have a place in my heart for the work you've made, and will hopefully continue to make. Please find a way to reach us out here in the void.
Yours,
csi 💔
Oh my god I'm gonna cry. This is so sweet. I'm so sad to be leaving here! I miss the days when it was good.

well between this and getting shadow banned, I might have to delete my tumblr entirely. Goodbye to 30,000+ people who follow me here.
Gonna figure this out tomorrow.
What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?
An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:
I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.
Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.
A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)
So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.

the thing that bugs me the most about the censoring of the internet to please advertisers is like… tv shows aren’t having less sex and violence in them. movies aren’t having less sex and violence in them. HBO can do eight seasons of graphic murder and nudity and it’s the cultural phenomenon of the decade, but I can’t show a nipple on tumblr or talk about death on tiktok. it’s not that the internet is becoming “safer,” it’s just making these topics a privilege only for very rich people, and putting it behind a paywall for everyone else.

Follow me on Bluesky! It's open to everyone now, and has a really good vibe of a lot of creatives and shitposters and queer people.
I posted something on here that I marked as mature content and then tumblr took it down for having mature content and like, yes, it does, you have a little button to press for mature content. If it's not allowed at all, why have the button? All I have learned from this is that I should NEVER mark something as having mature content, because it's basically a big sign telling tumblr to remove it.
Thing is, the images didn't actually show any nudity or anything. They just liked to other websites that do have sex and nudity. Gonna try to repost it I guess.

I can't believe I've been on this site for 15 years, amassed 30,000 followers, posted things that ended up in actual textbooks... and now I'm pushed into the same category as bots because I dared to link to a website with cartoon tiddies in it. This fucking sucks. Social media is a hellscape and every day I wish we were back in the days of individual websites and RSS feeds.

And now they've taken away my profile pic. All for a post that didn't even have adult content in it, that simply LINKED to adult content.
I've really been trying to give this place a second chance, but fuck.

Illustration I made for the Berkeley Public Library for their comics section. I'm really happy with this! I love public libraries and I love when people read my books through their local library. If you can't afford to buy my books but want to read them, ask your library to order them!
