Was walking through my mom’s house to borrow my dad’s drill when I saw my 11yo niece watching me with an odd expression.

“You wanna help me build the catio?”

Her eyes lit up, then she looked disappointed. “But I’m a girl…”

I rolled my eyes. “Do I look like I care?”

That must have been the right response because she jumped up and chattered excitedly as I showed her how to use a tape measure, a drill, etc. We spent all day building and she had a brilliant smile the whole time. After the tenth declaration of this being the best day in her life, I said,

“Gotta love that sweet sweet serotonin!”

She immediately started giggling, “What does that meeeeaan??”

Anyway, she had an amazing time building with me and acted like I had given her a solstice gift when I said she could paint it and that I’d take her to the hardware store to pick out hardware. She’s never been to a hardware store before and I love being the weird knowledgeable uncle who has weird pets always keeps fruit and pistachios in the house.

30 mins into My Name is Loh Ki Wan and im already breaking the fuck down.

Joong Ki is really knocking it out of the park with his film choices lately. The screenplay, the direction, the cinematography, the writing, the editing, the acting, the sound; each and every bit is engrossing as hell. What even????

Sword AF S2 E1 came in firing all cannons

The characters all start off with a clear tinge of experience. Damien didn't waste time getting the story going either.

(Spoilers ahoy)

The entire last 15 minutes of the episode? I was just sitting there with my hand over my mouth, just. grappling with the story. Holy shit, they weren't playing around. I think it was incredibly intelligent of Damien to choose Fernie for this storyline, because he's beloved by the audience AND the rest of the heroes, so it absolutely hurts you from the get-go that this is happening. And it helps that it's Shayne behind Fernie because he's quick on the uptake, so Damien doesn't have to explain too much in-game to get Shayne to pick up on what's going on.

We need to discuss how, between the CEO and Morousel (am I spelling that right?) it's so clear Damien has a knack for creating truly terrifying evil characters.

That moment when all the robots were silently mimicking laughter? Creepy. Horrible. So well done.

Another thing is how we're only one episode in but we're set on another storyline about greed, some kind of capitalistic desire-fuelled evil character, and environmental degradation (the Dragon Turtle being not just live-harvested for oil but also displayed like a tourist attraction?!)

Spotlight moments for me:

Fernie accurately worried about how either Shawn/Sean or Cursty was probably doomed, and it infecting everyone else, because in-game the four heroes are probably deeply traumatised about making new friends... especially Bug.

The robots laughing.

Damien turning into a creepy evil overlord so smoothly.

Angela's voice modulation to genuine heartbreak and panic about Fernie.

I am definitely upset this isn't video, because sometimes it's hard to concentrate, but there is undeniable hard work that has gone into this. The sound design is really good, the cast members are taking great effort to actually explain what they're doing, so they had it have it had it top of mind that they were doing a podcast and couldn't just use physical humour. Which is appreciated - sometimes on Smosh Mouth they tend to forget that and if you're only listening, you don't understand some things. I was worried that would happen here, but I'm glad it's not!

The very-real and valid concerns of people who are hard-of-hearing or anyone else who needs closed captions: still valid. SG should do something and it's sad they didn't think of that beforehand, but glad they've at least said they're thinking of it.

Overall I think this season's a little more serious, now that everyone's more used to the gameplay and Damien's got some more experience too. Which is great. A good second season improves the storytelling of the first.
