I was watching a documentary on some of the details bullshit that happened with the oceangate accident. I mean it’s all pretty standard and unsurprising stuff, and obviously I don’t wish for the death of anyone, but I can’t deny, there’s a certain satisfaction to see someone’s hubris so directly catch up with them.

It’s infuriating to watch interviews with Stockton Rush and see how convinced he is that safety regulations are only a hinderance to his innovation, how arrogantly he assumes that everyone raising concerns about his sub just wants to hold him back, because obviously he is just so brilliant and intelligent that he knows more than all of these people, how tired he is of people whining at him that he’s going to kill someone someday. It’s a shame he was killed instantly on the sub, without ever getting to see exactly how wrong he was, and having to live with the consequences.

Richard Dawkins' meltdown in the early 2010s was so prophetic for what would happen to *gestures at every old British celebrity* in the past few years. Within just a few years he went from quietly respected to giving interviews where he ranks which types of rape are the worst, calling a Muslim teen wrongfully arrested for playing with a clock a "ISIS child soldier", and repeatedly trying to shut down feminists by using Muslim women as a blunt object to say they don't have it so bad so stop complaining, all while doing a lot of "I don't believe [bad thing], I'm just asking questions, y'know" on the side

Confirming all that I learned that he promoted a conference run by evangelical Christian Nationalists in 2019 since, while he "didn't support their religious beliefs", he did support their speaker's rants about "post-modernism", which. That checks out tbh

To the weirdos bitching in the replies to my 1984 post about how AI art is just another evolution of art and I’m just being classist: THIS is why it isn’t. THIS is why it’s not the same as photography or synth music. This is why an AI artist is not an artist, so fuck you.

Specially to the people who say AI takes effort too so doesn’t that make it count: THIS is why it doesn’t count. I’m sure these AI prompters did spend a lot of time on what they were working on. But editing, revising, redoing, applying feedback is a part of the design process to get to a finished result, as every commercial artist knows. If you can’t make the changes, then it’s useless. If you don’t have the skills to make the changes, then you don’t have art skills. It makes it a funny little novelty, but it makes it absolutely useless in a professional setting.

I find this story absolutely delightful btw. This studio probably thought they’d save a ton of money, but instead they’re wasting their time trying to generate useful AI results instead of actually getting anything done with real actual artists. Absolutely fucking hilarious.

children existing in public spaces is genuinely like. necessary for the continuation of society. it doesnt have to be your kids you dont have to volunteer at a daycare or whatever but you need to be able to tolerate the presence of someone who is learning how to exist as a human and interact with people

#like look I’ve definitely been a few places where kids were being a menace #the family that used to let their kids play in my apartment hall like it was a playground come to mind #but honestly how often do you encounter that? I definitely don’t see that every day #the stuff people get angry about when they talk about children existing #is always things like children being louder than normal #or perhaps bumping into someone accidentally #or staring in an impolite way #or making a mess accidentally on a restaurant table or something #and like these guys really really make me wonder about what they would do #if they ever had to spend time around people who are significantly disabled or very elderly people #is it that they forgive people with medical reasons for behaving differently and don’t recognize that children also can’t help it? #or is it that they would also hate being around these types of people too #and anyone who isn’t acceptably able bodied should not be seen in public? #again I stress: feel free to not have kids feel free to not agree to babysit kids #but you can not go around acting like children in general do not belong in public places #honestly also try making some friends people people from different cultures and watch how their societies have such a different approach

The one thing that I legit enjoy about the family feuds though…

I had a rough time with my parents when I was a teenager, (since somewhat mostly patched up,) but anyway when I left home at 15, I remember my dad giving me a lecture about how sad I was going to be when I realized that family is the one thing you can always count on and who will be there for you, and I was ungrateful and unwise for turning my back on that.

That lecture is so vividly fresh in my brain, watching the way my dads own family fought with each other, and especially watching my moms family fight each other, because as far as I know, my mom’s fight is entirely just started and perpetuated by gossip and shit-talking rather than any actual event, issues, or actions anyone ever actually did. Family loyalty? Really? You people are the ones who feel qualified to lecture me about family loyalty?

I will never stop laughing about that. I am entirely outside of these bullshit feuds, I have absolutely nothing to do with any of it, I just sit and watch and think about my dad’s stupid lecture and I laugh and laugh and laugh.

Honestly in my case the “secret” is a good dash of good genetics, followed up with not drinking alcohol excessively, and not being in the sun. Like ever lol
