I will say it is hard to be nice to people here when so much of casual tumblr vernacular is just… inherently hostile. Some of you genuinely do not seem to understand that there are alternatives to flippantly insulting strangers.

#yess #I do believe that being mean to each other is a valid and often funny form of humor #however #it does absolutely require a form of consent imo #I mean I have spoken about it on tumblr before not in this context #but I really do think being mean as a joke doesnt work with a stranger who you dont know #it's just being mean period #like so many of us bonded on this website bc irl we were bullied and outsiders and found kind ppl here #and now strangers on here talk to you exactly like the bullies you wanted to escape #like even if it's ''just'' joke or a meme- the bullies also had fun being mean #and it's not just that it's a common autistic trait to not be able to read if sth is meant ironically or not #you simply cannot read tone or intention from a reblog on tumblr #and not everyone is in on every meme in the world #also I think it fucks with your brain in general to default to ''mocking to be funny'' #bc you will find yourself unable to turn it off and it will just become the way you perceive the world and interact with it #and just. #aside from ''it wasnt meant as an actual insult'' type of mean on here #a lot of tumblr culture involves participating in essentially unironic public humiliation campaigns #especially of teenagers on tiktok #it took me a long time to rid my dash of it #a lot of people on here are not just mean bc they don't realise others might not feel comfortable with their jokes #a lot of em are just mean as people in general #and these memes and jokes just reinforce and reward them for it
