My 10th Show & Tell for Rowland - this one was quite a focused response to my feelings during my departure from full time political journalism and my shift towards concentrating on poetry (in the broadest sense) /uncertainty and finding my own voice, rather than someone else’s, in times of political crisis.
Contains Fassbinder, Anonhi & Marguerite Duras.

My 8th Show & Tell - very themed. I had just discovered lots of contemporary ‘image culture’ based stuff but i was also reflecting on my life long obsession with the cinematic ambition of trains. And concluding with my first (and probably last) experiment with celluloid!
We got u some: Buster Keaton, Hito Steyerl, Hennessy Youngman & Andrei Tarkovsky.

My fourth Show & Tell for Gloria - it’s doing some different things - almost everything is from a feature film - I’d just discovered Mani Kaul - did I gather everything from him that I wanted to? He’s great.
This 1 ft. Mani Kaul, Peter Watkins and Dallas Buyers Club.

My 9th Show & Tell for Rowland, bit of a break really, wanted to concentrate and reflect on my sense of looking and put my struggles with dialogue centre stage.

My third Show & Tell for Gloria - I wanted to look at grief and other emotional extremes and how they’re communicated or not communicated, moreso not communicated. Some reflections through all my Show & Tells for Gloria about dialogue being ‘off the nose’ or ‘on the nose’.
We got Terry Gross, Joana Hogg & Theo Angelopoulous.

This is my 1st Show & Tell for Scout Stuart. I was thinking about unusual camera movements and editing, linking the Czech and French New Waves with experimental film in America. It’s a miscellany of what I’d been watching at the time but there’s a few key connecting points.
It’s got work from Jan Nemec, Clare Denis, Agnes Varda and Pat O’Neill

This is, what, my 7th Show & Tell for Rowland (!), we were just putting together our 10th numbered film in the Sarah_Ralph film series together for a Fusebox event. The film was about photography and depicting still recorded images on video. Some stuff here about snapshots and memories.
This one has Nicolas Roeg, Jonas Mekas, Drake and um, me...

This is my 2nd Show & Tell for Gloria. Thinking about scenes/location, building domesticity between people.
It uses scenes from Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Lena Dunham and Michelangelo Antonioni.

This is my 6th Show & Tell for Rowland Hill. It is in two parts: process and processions but really it’s trying to observe a separation between my fascination with technique from my fascination with pain and catharsis.
Contains clips from Carlos Reygedas, Adrienne Rich and Jenni Olson.

This Show & Tell is the longest I ever did, nearly an hour. Some sketches for films i did in here and more audacious links made between disparate #content.
Includes material from Clipping., Philip Bloom, Bob Dylan and Agnes Varda.

This Show & Tell was made for Rowland during a moment when I’d completed a major project and was overwhelmed with an abundance of ideas and anxiety swirling around in my mind. We also wanted to make a film responding to The Waste Land.
Includes: John Smith, Laurie Anderson, Don Levy and Andrei Tarkovsky.

This is my first Show & Tell for Gloria Dawson, my cousin and very close friend. It was made in January 2015 and focuses on dialogue in film. It was partly a way to start us thinking about fleshing out the feature film script which we wrote that year.
Contains: Ingmar Bergman, Larisa Shepitko and True Detective.
