when you wake up next to him in the middle of the night
with your head in your hands,
you're nothing more than his wife.
and when you think about me,
all of those years ago
you're standing face to face with
"i told you so".
Years later, after Laena has married Daemon and mothered their twins, Laena tries to get Daemon to move back to Westeros. Their family lives in Pentos, and Laena still wears styles emulating her mother's first design, but now in more gold than teal. She still needs all the pearls and giant gemstones of course, an icon wherever she goes.
My friend and I have talked a few times about how the show has such interesting characters who are absolutely squashed by the time-skip pacing of the first season. Laena is this amazing Dragonrider, has three fantastic actresses portraying her...and the narrative kills her off so fast we've got whiplash. The narrative is so keen on squeezing 20 years of backstory into 10 episodes to set up S2 that Laena is killed off almost immediately (very violently and tragically by the way) so that Daemon and Rhaenyra can finally get married. I would say Harwin Strong suffers a similarly foot-note style death, because the love interests are disposable. The show skips years and years over and over again to catch the "plot" relevant details of only a handful of character's lives so the majority of the cast practically live off screen and die when the history books says it was time for the main characters to be single again. Sorry for the tangent, RIP Laena.

For those who are not hard Sci-fi fans, to help you understand just how monumental of a triumph Dune Part 2 is,
This is the Lord of the Rings of Sci-fi. The Empire Strikes Back of sequels. I haven’t been this impacted by a cinematic experience since The Return of the King. Every Sci-fi film made after this will likely be compared to it. It will inspire a generation of filmmakers. I know someone is sitting in the theatre experiencing this movie who now realizes they have a passion for film and sci-fi, and that is a beautiful thing. This is what the experience of seeing a film should be. Movies can change you—long live cinema.
i will never, ever stop believing that they were meant to be. they're fire and water and the sun and the moon and so equally passionate and resilient and hardworking and they deserved to fall in love, and even if they didn't they're still soulmates i just
i just found out we used to have a copy of good omens and now i'm a sobbing mess 💔
i was going through some old photos and found one of some of our books back in 2017, and there on the far left was an old and battered copy of good omens. the worst part is that i instantly recognized the spine and knew we had that book on our shelf, but i just didn't remember it until now, seeing that photo.
idk where it is anymore because we've moved around a lot since then, but it breaks my heart to imagine the joy i would've felt rediscovering that copy, and how much it would've meant to me now, almost 7 years later, being completely obsessed with the show and these characters 🥹🥹
You know what era of romcoms I miss? It's the early 2000s teen romcoms that were based on classic literature. They were some of my favorite ones, and yeah, some were loosley based, but they still hit those important bases, and they were so much fun.
We had:
Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew - 10 Things I Hate About You
Shakespeare's 12th Night - She's the Man
Snow White - Sydney White
Cinderella - A Cinderella Story, What a Girl Wants
Little Mermaid - Aquamarine
Jane Austen's Emma - Clueless
The Scarlett Letter - Easy A
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet - Warm Bodies
Shakespeare's Midnight Summer's Dream - Get Over It
Pygmalion - She's All That
Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor - John Tucker Must Die
Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility - Material Girls
I might be missing some, but I remember just having fun with these. One of my English teachers also showed us a few of these movies while studying Shakespeare to show how pieces of literature can change over the years and inspire other's own takes.
“Even after somebody dies, you can.. you can still keep learning about them. You know, their life. It can keep unfolding itself to you just as long... just as long as you pay attention to it.”
Called me “cute,” huh? — Does he know? Know what? That you’ve been corrupted. — You know I like you, and normally I would do everything in my power to make you feel better. — Want me to come stand outside your playdate? You are lovely. — Dear Upper West Side, thank you for bringing your umbrella. — You’re staring. Am I? Do I have a hair out of place? I didn’t know how to tell you… You’re still staring. So are you. — So, what did you think of my act? I thought it was sensational. — Maybe someday. Before I’m dead. It’s a date. — You want me to go away? Yes. Because I would make you nervous? You would make me nervous. — What, I’m not important enough to go through all of that trouble for? You are more important than God. You paid attention? To you? Always. — I think my show corset turned your head. My head turned a long time ago. — They will know your wit, your intellect, your smile. Your great, expressive eyes. They will be helpless to your charms. They will fall at your feet and worship at the altar of you and your show corset. — You will break my fucking heart. — Lenny, I’m not gonna blow it. I’m gonna hold you to that.
