MFW I see fake feminist men (aka fauxminists) take the stage or go on social media to talk about treating women with respect while being totally disrespectful to women IRL 😪 . I have had men argue with me about how feminism is BS because men are the more oppressed group only to watch the same men go up on stage to perform a tear-jerking poem on menstrual taboos. Boy, how you going to write about menstrual taboos after you responded with, “Is it that time of the month?” each time I came to you in tears or boiling rage? How do you get yourself to talk about the power of menstrual blood when you haven’t menstruated a day in your life? ❌ . And feminist is the new sexy, yes. Fauxminist, not so much. Just a helpful tip guys: If you feel the need to say things like, “I am not a feminist, I am an aspiring feminist.” Or try to justify your sexist actions as “accidental sexism” and expect women around you to teach you how to treat them with basic respect, then don’t go on stage to talk about gender equality. If treating women with respect is so hard for you to do, and feminism is so hard for you to understand, sit in the audience instead of the stage you are sitting on instead and consume feminist content instead of trying to create your own. Sincerity is 1000x sexier 🤗 . Feminism is not a performance. Feminism should and ideally will make money for the marginalized that feminism aims to bring equality to. But when a man makes a mainstream Bollywood hit that pulls on feminist strings, discusses pittrasatta (patriarchy) from his cushy couch on a TV show that probably reached every TV set in India, and then goes to endorse a sexist movie starring a misogynistic male superstar known to abuse women he has dated, feminism is reduced to a money making machine for the men who have controlled the narrative (and the money for years) 👎🏽 . TL;DR - #BewareFakeFeministWokebois. We see right through you. Xoxo (at New York, New York)

#ad You guys… I just figured out a totally new way of eating MORE & FASTER! It’s basically called eating whatever the fuck you want, sometimes even doing it with both hands at a time, and it’s literally unreal. I am not an influencer so I can’t really give you any discount. But I can tell you about eating disorders. . Back in 2011, I met a floor mate in my dorm who was anorexic. Watching her count calories when we went grocery shopping or at the dining halls was scary. One day, she mentioned she was dumped by a boy because he thought she was too fat. I wanted to hug her & tell her she was more than her body. That her body was beautiful no matter what size or shape. I wanted her to see that her body is just a means for her beautiful self to live a happy life on earth. But I didn’t have the words to do so at the time. In 2012-2013, I lost oodles of weight myself. I thought my hips were too wide, my boobs too small, my waist not tiny enough. I would buy the smallest size of clothing even if it didn’t fit me, in hopes of fitting into them one day. It was hard for me to not focus on the “flaws” in my body all the time. My trigger was sexual assault. . My floor mate took some time off from college to recover, and from what I saw last on social media, she’s doing much better. I am doing much better, too. But occasionally, I will find myself looking at only my “flaws” in the mirror. @kimkardashian's (now deleted) post about appetite suppressing lollipops is dangerous & irresponsible for multiple reasons. 1- eating disorders are real, widespread & deadly 2- these posts promote unrealistic standards of beauty that no one should feel the pressure to match 3- there is so much delicious food on this planet to enjoy that I think we need to find a way to increase appetites (Oh wait there is already a herbal solution for that😌)
. So let’s all make it a point to not use “Hey, you’ve lost weight” as a compliment, never fat-shame & be mindful of others’ insecurities? Tag someone below & leave them a compliment that is not about their physical appearance!

Hopping on the insta format of posting photos of self with meaningful captions 🙈 also, I have hated on fuckboys a lot recently, so I figured I'll write something full of love instead 💕 . To the Women of the World, I see you. I understand your daily battles between yourself and your self esteem. I can sense your fear when the man at that bar doesn’t understand you’re not interested. I can also recognize your joy when you get that thing you have fought really hard for. I feel the same disappointment you feel when someone you love doesn’t treat you as an equal because you are a woman. Because you are dark, fat, short, have a PhD, have a blue collar job, laugh too loudly, express yourself freely, don’t express yourself at all. Because you exist. I know of your struggles to stand up against our one common enemy - The Patriarchy. Because that is what it is - the common enemy very similar to those white invaders we were taught about in school. This enemy has exploited its power over our lives with its the simple formula of ‘Divide And Rule’. So, to all the women of the world, I apologise. I apologise for ever questioning your morality because of the length of your skirt. I apologise for dismissing your agony over a friend, lover, husband touching you in ways you didn’t want to be touched. I am sorry for not appreciating your professional success because I was threatened by it. I am sorry for when I cringed at your your decision of having a baby, or not having a baby. For judging you if you loved women, or men and women, or many people at once. I am sorry for not accepting you on our team simply because you were not born with a vagina. I see you now. I see all of you. I see that we are in the same sinking ship but are taught to believe that we will only survive over the bodies of the other. I see through the lies our common enemy has been repeating over and over about how we can’t fix this ship and sail to the sunset happily, together. And I promise to be better. I promise to be by your side as we struggle to stay afloat in this mad world designed to treat us like grime. Yours truly, A woman learning to be a better feminist every day (at Gainesville, Florida)

Shah Jahan got the Taj freaking Mahal built for Mumtaaz and here I am dealing with fuckboys who are unsure of what they want, but definitely want to "hang out" 🙃 . Now I don't need no man to build me the Taj Mahal. I can do that for myself, thank you. But, damn since when has basic human decency become so scarce 🤔 . #betibachaofuckboyhatao #tajmahal #ugh (at Taj Mahal)

//YOLO// . This past week I have been in over my head with the thought of my own mortality 💀 . My great grandmother passed away. I never spoke to her because she lived in a different city. But now that she is gone, I have all these questions about her life and story that I will never have the answers to. My grandmother is in the hospital, and I am uncomfortably aware of how limited my time with her is 👧🏾 👵🏼 . I also found out that one of the tigers I have heard great tales about, and have been wanting to see and (try to!) photograph was killed by poachers. Her skin will now be a rug or her bones snorted in a part of the world that she was never meant to be 🐅 . Sridevi, someone who I grew up watching not only on the big screen, but also caught fleeting glimpses of when she was on her evening walk in my building or returning home from a party with her daughters at night, is also no more 👩🏻 . Death is inevitable. It should be expected. Yet when it shows up at our doorstep, we are shocked and sad. I have always lead my life like there is a tomorrow. Like I have my whole life ahead of me. Technically, yes, I do have my life ahead of me. But there is no way for me to know how long that is⏳ 💢 .
Late last week, I went to my friends with a dilemma. They told me to go with the option that my uptight ass would not normally go for. “YOLO,” they said. I chuckled, like some old grandma, on the sprightly folly of their advice. But for the first time, I actually understood what they meant 💪🏽
.
So here is an imperfect photo of me. From a perfectly happy moment. Because I am done hiding behind perfectly curated photos of sometimes not-so-perfect moments. Because YOLO. #MyOwnWay #YOLO #Hawaii (at Kaanapali, Hawaii)

Fave Facades Part II 🌴🏢🌴 . I actually meant to post this the first time and accidentally posted the other one 😬 . Occasionally, while planning my travels, I face the dilemma of going back to a destination I fell in love with during previous travels vs exploring a new place. Barcelona is one city I haven't hesitated in visiting twice. The wine, the olives, the weather, the architecture, the tiny alleyways of El Born, the wide streets at La Rambla and Barceloneta. It's a place for every version of me. #barcelona #throwback #myownway

Male: Hey babe, look there are some hoomans taking photos of us. Babe, wake up... Female: Shhh... its way too early for this! Male: Babe, should I smize or give them my smolder? Female: you don't have a smize, or a smolder. Male: OMG babe, seriously though, these hooman paps totally adore me! Okay, that's may or may not have been what this pair of Indian Scops Owl was thinking. But as a member of the hooman paparazzi community, I can assure you that we definitely went crazy over these owls - smize or no smize. Smolder or no smolder. Nature is incredible and beautiful and sharing a moment with these gorgeous creatures was and will probably be one of the best memories of my life. Blog post from this trip coming soon, coz now I sorta (try to) blog about my travels and stuff y'all. #wildlife #india #birds #kanha (at Kanha National Park)
