We can roast Chris Pratt for being a thin-skinned conservative who is too chickenshit to be overt about his views out of a concern that he will lose the largely liberal audience that follows his projects from Parks and Rec to the MCU, but I don't want it to go unsaid that he's lame as fuck. The dude is corny, his projects are trash, and he manages to be the least interesting and good-looking out of a group of 4 near-identical men with the same name.

We wouldn't even have to have the discussion about how he follows Ben Shapiro if y'all had just unfollowed him when he posted a poem about America and his perfectly sunburnt back on his instagram.

This excerpt from a comment on a subreddit i find very interesting. Lots to chew on for me and as it goes in life, perhaps not everything here is something i agree with. But I’ve smashed that mf bold button on the most interesting parts.

First, lockdowns have enabled unpredecented corporate consolidation and strengthened the hand of big capital by destroying a large proportion of small, independent businesses. We appear to be transitioning rapidly into a new era of capitalism with an increased fusion of the bourgeois state and business, with major implications for worker organisation.

Second, while in some scenarios mass unemployment and impoverishment can drive the masses towards revolutionary action, the international left has been fatally weakened over the last 3 decades by the defeat of labour and state socialism. The masses are depoliticised, complacent and apathetic, while no credible revolutionary organisation exists to take advantage of the crisis.

Third, covid states of emergency have expanded policing and surveillance powers while curtailing freedom of assembly/movement/speech and practically abolishing parliamentary oversight in many countries. Left orgs will undoubtedly be targeted with the justification that their activity represent a threat to public safety.

Fourth, covid hysteria is destroying the social fabric, turning people against each other, encouraging snitching, creating the idea that basic social interaction is harmful and irresponsible, and producing a more atomised, fearful and compliant society.

Finally, the opposition to covid restrictions has been successfully hijacked by the right, while the left, which is supposed to care about the impacts of state policies on the poor and working class, is utterly failing to mount serious criticism of the state response. Indeed, as you are all aware, leftists are often the ones screaming for even more draconian, irrational and harmful measures, while failing to interrogate mainstream media hype over covid numbers and buying into the doom narrative wholesale.

As a result of these failures, as well as the fact that 'lockdown' was first seen in Wuhan, much of the public appears to view lockdown as a 'communist' policy. This, for me, is the most alarming development of the whole crisis, as pro-lockdown leftists have handed a huge gift to the right, which can now present itself as the friend of the working class, children, and the global poor, while the leftists reveal themselves to be privileged and out of touch with the impacts of lockdowns on people's lives.

This quote from Simon Elmer on the Architects for Social Housing blog (highly recommended for sobering analysis of the crisis from a biopolitical perspective) sums it up for me:

“With radicals, socialists, anarchists and communists that have disagreed on every social and political issue in the UK for the past 20 years all suddenly united in their eagerness to blame, chastise and demand of the Government that it increase its measures to stop the spread of SARs-CoV-2 and impact of COVID-19 (even when few distinguish between the two), I admit that I lack the judgement to identify to whom I am writing, in whose hands the truth should best be placed, and what possible weapon can be made from it — not when there is such a small audience inclined to listen to the truth, let alone hands ready to wield it. More than the expected collusion of middle-class liberals with the Government they elected to office, the collaboration in spreading the lies of this Government by the so-called political Left in this country is, perhaps, the clearest sign of how ripe we are for fascism.”

jokes aside the dumbest "İ" problem i had with an american was that my english teacher extracting 1 point from each İstanbul i wrote with a capital "i" in my englısh exam and it was the lowest grade ive had in an english exam in my student life....
