A Lot to Grow
I’m assigned to create a piece that conveys who I am,
But to be honest i'm not sure where to start.
There’s a lot to go over in my young 18 years,
But even more that has gone through my heart.
I should add I’m not too familiar with myself,
But hear me out, I can identify a few things
people first ponder ones backgrounds,
So i’ll be proud to tell you I’m Palestinian
If you’re not too familiar with my ethnicity,
Don't fret to ask me about it,
We’re known to be quite prideful
but after all we’ve gone through i'm sure you’ll allow it
I could tell you my favorite color is black and I love to go on adventures
or I might bore you with the list of shows I adore
Maybe I could go on and on about music and why the tracks we hear today will never match the 90’s
But thats all stuff you've heard before
I’d rather make myself vulnerable,
I'd rather tell you that at the moment i’ve been feeling a bit off,
I'd rather share that I once went through a troubling time,
And that the feeling in my throat is not just for a cough
This time last year I fell into a hole
Dark and deep
I was low and sad
But please don’t pity me
Because I sit here and type
I talk about this difficult time
Know I’m doing much better
I mean considering I could make it into a rhyme
Believe me when i tell u this time isn’t as bad
Though I cant take you back to that fall
Im sure you can use your imagination
But If you’re a little too good at that give me a call
Though I’m struggling through this time
I’ll take this opportunity to tell you something else,
That after a sad time
I've grown into a better version of myself.
And since my assignment is to share
I'll share how much i want to help
Those who endure it
Should never be left to undergo by themself
I sense the vibes have gone from good
Chatting on my Palestinian pride
to drifting away from the gaza sea waves
All thanks to some low tides
Allow me to wrap this up with one more piece
I'll be honest you haven't heard the half of me
Countless notes on my phone are filled with poems
Though my rhymes are nothing close to tupac or biggie
Ill spring on you that I love red bull and iced coffee,
That I'll never pass up sushi,
That I love fashion and making statements,
That I love my family.
But I'll end it here ,
Though I could go on and on.
I only have five minutes ,
And my rhyming game isn’t too strong.
I hope you've learned something about me,
Because if you did I’d love to know.
Since I really babbled a lot on my life,
I'm still not too familiar with myself and have a lot to grow.

My Top 5 Songs
Location by Dave featuring Burna Boy will always remain in my top 5 favorite songs. It’s a song that brings me back to the happiest moments of summer 2019. I reminisce about driving on the roads with my best friends, or being at the beach, regardless whenever this song came on, it was by force that we would scream it. Even writing about this song makes me smile because the times were truly too happy and genuine. I’ve never known a song that can protrude such an outburst of immaculate vibes. Location is a song that will never be skipped in my car, or even by my will, in my presence!
Before I begin about this song, I hope you can understand how much it has carried me through an incredibly tough time. Listen before you go by Billie Eilish is a song of hers that does not get the credit it truly deserves, however my heart genuinely will always hold it close. I hear this song and it takes me back to Fall 2019. Ironically, right after the best summer of my life came a time I pray nobody would have to endure. That Fall I fell into immense depression, a time that breaks my heart to think about writing this, but it happened and with that time came countless replays of ‘Listen before I go.’ This song talks about being at the final straw of a want for life and not caring for the troubles one would cause if they took their life. It’s something to think about why this incredibly sad song would be in my top 5 favorite songs but it’s actually quite clear. This song not only casts a horrid time but it also acknowledges the fact that I am in a completely better place now. With that being said, I hear this song and I no longer feel sorry for myself but I now feel the strength that I know I can bear.
Juicy by The Notorious BIG is a classic song that I will forever bump to at the maximum volume. I grew up with 4 older siblings with a minimum 5 year age difference. In other words, though I was born in 02’ with my knowledge of the previous generation, you could consider me a 90s baby. Throwback music has a different vibe to it and only a few can see that it’s somewhat better, but I mean that’s just my opinion. In ‘Juicy’, Biggie raps about how he turned his life upside down, made it out of poverty, gave his mother and daughter a better life, but still stayed true to his hood. So many talked down on him and didn’t support him but he proved them wrong. This inspires me to never let what people say affect me. If this song ever plays, be prepared for me to rap every single word of it.
Jungle by A Boogie is a classic song that I must include in my top 5. A Boogie himself has been and always is in my top 5 artists. He’s one of the first artists that really stood out to me and made me love rap a lot. It’s hard to explain why this song is too good because you really do need to listen to it and you won’t need to hear why I personally love it. However, Jungle is really such an upbeat song that I can’t help but blast. It’s so effortlessly in tune with everything and every word connects so well.
To wrap up my top 5 favorite songs, I’ll end it with the song that introduced me to another one of my top favorite artists, Novacane by Frank Ocean. When I first heard this song I needed to see the face of this beautiful voice. I’ve known so many outstanding voices but Frank Ocean’s is one of my favorites. Novacane is one of his more happy songs where he sings about meeting this girl who interests him in all of ways. I love this song because it makes me happy and sometimes a song makes you happy even though you don’t relate to it but the vibes are really too great for you not to smile and sing along.
