So... I'm Heading Out...
Not leaving Tumblr altogether 'cause this site's got me in one hell of a death grip, but I am leaving this blog (and related side-blogs) behind.
Feels like I need a fresh start, but I'm not just gonna wipe the slate clean. I'll leave the blogs up as a reminder, both for everyone else and myself. There are some things I wanna remember... and some I'd like to remember to avoid in the future.
You can find me @mathewton-cl, once I set up shop there.
The journey's not over yet. Just this part of it. Thanks for the fun.
Here's to more of it in the future.

Just Finished RWBY Volume 4...
...and I actually liked it?
[Spoilers Ahead, Y'all Know The Drill]
I mean, from what I've heard the Volume gets a lot of flack but honestly? I don't think it deserves it.
Yes, this is the first volume without Monty, and yes, the fights lost a bit of their momentum compared to earlier volumes, but aside from that... it's actually pretty good?
Alright, let me give you the play by play character style.
Ruby Rose
There goes my baby... off to destroy evil.
Ruby hasn't changed much, at least to a noticeable degree, compared to the rest of the cast. Actually, no, that isn't true, she just hasn't changed in a way that would force her overall character to noticeably shift. And I think that's fine. She's still a child at times, and is still really optimistic. But the thing is, she has matured. She doesn't immediately jump head first into danger like she used to, and it's clear she's still trying to process what happened at the Fall of Beacon. And yet, she's pressing on, and I'm glad that she and the rest of Team RNJR have each other's backs.
My only concern is what will go down in Mistral...
Weiss Schnee
Welp, Jacques Schnee, congrats! You've joined Cinder and Adam on the hit list I'm writing up!
The a-hole aside, I really like how Weiss played out this volume. According to what I've heard, volume 4 took place about 6-8 months after Beacon, so I'm kinda sad that Weiss was stuck home for all that time. On the bright side, we get a look at her progress on her summons, which looks to be coming along quite nicely. Then we see the concert, and ooh does that make my blood boil. I'll get to Jacques in a bit, but personally, I'd have no qualms watching him burn, figuratively, or literally.
Fly, Weiss, fly from the coup. Give your bastard of a father the metaphorical middle finger he deserves! (P.S. Klein is best dad.)
Blake Belladonna
Oof. I hurteth.
So Blake tends to stay away out of fear that she'll hurt her friends (i.e. some alternate version of survivor's guilt). In order to make amends from her point of view, she heads home to Menagerie. And once again, we're reminded on why humanity sucks sometimes!
Humans: Here, have this desert island for your large spanning species that covers just as much ground as we do.
Faunus: But... but it's so small!
Humans: Is it? Oh well, we can't have everything!
Me: Y'all LITERALLY have several freaKING CONTINENTS-!
*Ahem* That said, Sun came along! And we met Blake's parents! But first, Sun; I'll admit, I had mixed feelings about him being there at first, but that was mostly because Blake was being angsty and despite Sun's best intentions, virtually nothing he did help. Although, towards the end of the Volume, he managed to help Blake realize why her way of thinking was wrong, so props to him for that. Uh, Sun, could you maybe knock like a normal person? Wait, Blake, DON'T SLAP HIM FOR IT!!!
Ah, Kali, you're just as chaotic as Sun, oh dear... Ghira, never change, man. Never change.
Yang Xiao Long
Oof. I hurteth again. (ADAM!! LET ME DESTROY YOU, DANGIT!!!)
So Yang has been... adjusting to life after Beacon and without an arm. Oh, and Adam gave her PTSD! Isn't that just swell?
[When the find your corpse it'll have Wilt running through your spine and your skull severed with bullet shots from Blush I swear-]
Luckily, Yang gets a prosthetic from Atlas. I was afraid she'd reject it, but it's actually kinda nice to see that she takes to it rather well. And after seeing Oobleck (YAY!) and Port again, it's cool that she's just trying to find her footing. Though, Tai, you might wanna consider NOT flying to close to the Sun Dragon, capiche?
And all this culminates in Yang finally getting back out in the end of the Volume, hoping to find some answers. Hopefully she takes Tai's words to heart.
Jaune Arc
IT'S BIG BOI SWORD HOURS!!
But seriously, it was... kinda off-putting to see Jaune act so... morose. Granted, we all know why (PYRRHA!!!), but still. I'm glad his team is looking out for him and that he's slowly starting to recover like everyone else. His conversation with Ruby in Kuroyuri was also really touching. Come to think of it, didn't Blake have a similar conversation with Sun? The PARALLELS!
Also, that upgrade, tho. CUT THAT NUCKELAVEE INTO DUST, MY DUDE!!!
Nora Valkyrie+Lie Ren
You can't talk about one without bringing up the other.
Guys, this was as much a Renora volume as it was a RWBY-Post Beacon volume. The Fall triggers some odd behavior in Ren, but we figure out why pretty quickly once we reach the Kuroyuri episode.
First, young Ren and Nora... adorable!
Second, I was NOT ready for when Nora had to talk Ren out of charging blindly at the Nuckelavee. The slap. The way Ren sees young Nora and then sees current Nora. Nothing could prepare me. Nothing.
They are so SOFT together, it's just... <3
New Characters (and Old ones, too)
Lightning round, baby!
Qrow Branwen. So Qrow serves as the inside man. He knows what's been going on, and he fills the rest of us in. We also know why he tends to keep his distance, because his semblance brings bad luck to allies and enemies alike. The poor birb. Glad he managed to survive Tyrian!
Jacques Schnee. Egotistical manipulative piece of garbage whom I will not feel sorry for once he's put in his place. 'Nuff said.
Whitley Schnee. Mixed feelings. Mixed feelings everywhere. 'Cause on one hand, I've seen plenty of the fandom's takes on his character putting him in a positive light, but on the other he starts getting kind of unbearable after Weiss loses her title as heiress. Then I have to remind myself that Whitley is the "Fawn" reaction to trauma. Weiss is "Fight," Winter is "Flight," their mother is "Freeze," and Whitley is "Fawn." Stuff like that helps me contextualize that when Whitley says things about their dad like "It's foolish to not do what father asks," or "It's barbaric. It's beneath me. Beneath father," Whitley's not just saying that 'cause he's a bit of a brat. That's his coping mechanism to the abuse Jacques put him and the rest of his family through, and it's probably been a long time that he's been telling himself stuff like this so he can keep in his father's good graces and not risk getting a slap to the face like Weiss, while also trying to deal with the fact that Weiss and Winter get a freedom that he never had a chance to get. And you have to remember that Winter and Weiss were abused to, and that trying to blame Whitley's current condition on the two of them doesn't make things any better. They're not obligated to care about Whitley just as much as Whitley isn't obligated to care about them. It would be nice if either one of them could get through to him, but they were all trying to combat Jacques in one way or another. Whitley was just the odd one out. And if you really think about it, the biggest brain play you can take from all this is to blame it solely on Jacques. I swear, when I get to Volume 4 in my NWBE AU, one of my top priorities will be getting Whitley the ever loving hell out of that accursed mansion alongside Weiss, mark my words.
Klein Sieben. Ladies and gentleman, the only valid man under the Schnee roof! And a Seven Dwarves reference no less. Thanks, I love him! Glad he helped Weiss escape his father's clutches.
James Ironwood. Oh boy, boss man is starting to lose his grip on things. Granted, he's trying to do the right thing, but it's clear his paranoia is getting to him. You know crap is getting bad if the most valid person in all of Atlas simultaneously needs to be told to get a grip from Jacques of all people (especially if he's making a point). Hope this doesn't trigger a downward spiral...
Ghira and Kali Belladonna. Ghira is done and Kali just wants to have fun. I love their dynamic and interactions with Blake and Sun! It was a nice wind down from everything else going on, though I don't think that'll last for long.
White Fang. So we got three more WF members: Fennec, Corsac, and Ilia. The Albain brothers are sleezeballs already, since they're working with Adam and all. Ilia's working with them too, but I'll have to withhold my judgement since she appears to have an as yet undisclosed connection to Blake, but I don't want to get my hopes up since she already stabbed Sun, so... Low expectations, but still expectations.
Salem's Group. Yup, Salem's a villain alright. I'll be keeping my eye on her, she just reeks of trouble. Cinder apparently lost her voice... eh, probably for the best. Emerald, Mercury, get the ever-loving FRICK outta there, you're clearly out of your element! Hazel, you're... fascinating. Neutral Evil, perhaps? Watts, you're on my radar, especially with the last episode of the Volume. And Tyrian... well, he's clearly beyond the point of no return, entirely devoted to Salem, and his psycho-sadistic tendencies are enough to freak Cinder of all people out. Needless to say, I hope something or someone takes care of him before the damage becomes irreversible.
And for now, I'll wrap this up with Oscar Pine. I'll admit, it was interesting how they set up Oscar's character as a slow burn this Volume. We learn he lives a quiet life with his aunt in a barn, and at first we're wondering "Who the heck is this kid?" But then Ozpin shows up and suddenly everything is like "Oh... wait, WHAT!?" So yeah, Ozpin just brought another child into thia conflict. At least they're both not happy about it, and hey, they met Qrow! Hopefully that keeps things from getting too crazy down the line. We still need answers, after all.
Well, those are my thoughts. Sorry they took so long. Hopefully Volume 5 won't be so hard to complete. Well... cheers!

NWBE Shorts: Color Code
(Or Jaune makes a connection.)
Jaune: *Looks despondent.*
Nora: *Walking over.* Aw, Jaune. What's got you so down in the dumps?
Jaune: Eh. Oh, nothing, Nora. Just that I'll never be the strongest on our team.
Nora: Don't say that, Jaune! With enough training, you coule be as strong as me, maybe even stron-
Jaune: That's not what I meant. *Points to the sparring field.*
Nora: Hm? *Follows his finger.*
Pyrrha: *Effortlessly curb stomping Team CRDL.*
Ruby: *Running circles around her opponent, who's trying not to be decapitated by Crescent Rose.*
Rev: *Isn't even using his weapon. Walks up to his opponent with his Semblance on, ignoring their shotgun fire as he stands in front of them, grabbing their face before slamming then into the ground, cracking the floor.*
Nora: ...oh.
Jaune: *Despairingly* It's the red Nora, it's the red and it's not fair! All of the red ones in our friend group are completely out of our league! You only come close because you're pink!
Nora: What's that got to do with my- *Stops, realizes pink is an off-shoot of red.* Oh. Oh no.
Jaune: *Sighs in dramatic dismay.*

NWBE Shorts: Taming The Ice Queen
(Or a look at how a first encounter can go very differently.)
[Canon]
Weiss: *is abrasive and prideful to others due to her upbringing*
Blake: *shoots her down without a care in the world*
Weiss: *storms off in a huff*
Blake: *goes about her business*
Ruby: *is alone*
[NWBE-verse]
Weiss: *is abrasive and prideful to others due to her upbringing*
Ruby: I said I was sorry, princess!
Blake: It's heiress, actually.
[Blake and Jury walk up to the commotion. Blake's bow and Jury's hood hides their faunus ears.]
Blake: Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company. One of the largest producers of energy propellant in the world.
Weiss: Finally, some recognition!
Blake: *Opens her mouth to speak*
Jury: *Holds up his hand*
Blake: *Looks at him questioningly*
Jury: *Gives her a look*
Blake: *Nods*
Jury: Okay, I'm gonna stop you right there, Ms. Schnee. One: your recognition won't mean diddly squat around here, so get used to that.
Weiss: *appaled* What!? The nerve of-!
Jury: Two: last I checked, this girl here *gestures to Ruby* might have triggered the explosion, but you were waving the jar of fire Dust around, AND you slammed the briefcase after it was compromised.
Weiss: Bu... B-but-!
Jury: Three: I know you're dead set on proving your father wrong about yourself and his business practices, you're gonna need to learn to deal with incompetence-
Ruby: Hey!
Jury: *throwing back his hood, exposing his wolf ears* -and the faunus.
Weiss: *Is fuming, trying to form words*
Jury: Don't stop me now, Ms. Schnee! You have every right to be mad at the White Fang, just as the White Fang has every right to be mad at what your father's been doing to their faunus laborers. The problem starts when you decide to take that aggression out on ALL of the faunus population. For crying out loud, not all faunus lie, cheat, and steal, and even if they did, what's the most likely reason that they do it?
Weiss: *Is about to blow up at him, but stops to reconsider*
Jury: And what if your role was reversed, Ms. Schnee? What if you were a faunus? Would you want to be blamed for the White Fang's actions simply because of your species?
Weiss: *Thinks it over. A look of horrid realization dawns on her face.*
Blake+Ruby: *Completely floored*
Jury: *Grabbing the Dust jar from Blake* This is yours.
Weiss: *Takes it, still dumbfounded.*
Jury: Glad we had this talk, Ms. Schnee. *Starts to walk away*
Blake: *Catching up to him.*
Jury: ... *stops walking, turns back, yells* AND MS. SCHNEE?
Weiss: *Turns around*
Jury: You really want to prove that your better? *Smiles* Wipe the floor with the rest of us at Initiation. *Continues to walk, waving goodbye.*
Weiss: *Blinks*
Ruby: ...I swear I'll make this up to you.
Weiss: *Without any bite* You better... *Looks back at Jury and Blake* But I should... also apologize for my... unsavory conduct.
*Weiss holds out her hand to Ruby*
Weiss: Weiss Schnee. A pleasure to meet you.
Ruby: *taking the hand* Ruby Rose. Likewise.
[Bonus]
Blake: We didn't see her shaking the jar. How did you-?
Jury: My semblance. I call it Sixth Sense. It isn't the most convenient one in the world, but it does give me intel when I need it.
Blake: ...huh.

NWBE Shorts: Red Roses and Rogues
(Or WBY, JNPR, and WBE learn a bit more about their two red friends.)
[Beacon Cafeteria. Teams RWBY, JNPR, and NWBE are currently sitting at the same table. Weiss and Rev are trying to help Ruby with studying.]
Jury: *staring intensely*
Ruby+Rev: *feeling weirded out while trying to listen to Weiss*
Jury: *continues staring*
Rev: (Internally) Okay, Jury clearly wants to know something. (Aloud) Yes?
Jury: Hm?
Rev: Don't "Hm?" me, Jury! You've been staring intensely at me and Ruby for the past five minutes!
Jury: Oh. I suppose I was.
Rev: But why?
Jury: Just noting your similarities.
Rev: What similarities?
[-RECORD SCRATCH-]
WBY, JNPR, _W_E: *Stop what they're doing and look at Rev and Ruby*
Ruby: ...what?
Blake: He's not... he's joking, right?
Rev: I seriously have no idea what you're talking about.
Yang: *Rolling her eyes* Oh, for the love of- seriously, Rev!?
Rev: I know Ruby and I are good friends, but that doesn't mean we HAVE to be similar...
[Silence]
Jaune: ...okay. Even I'm not that dense, and that's saying something!
Ruby+Rev: JAUNE YOU TRAITOR!
Ruby: Could you at least explain your point?
Rev: Yeah! Give us the concrete evidence that me and Ruby are simila-
Ren: 15, awkward, speed semblances, red color schemes.
Ruby+Rev: ...
The Rest of the Table: (Internally) No hesitation!
Rev: Wait a sec! *Gestures to his green hoodie* I wear green!
Ruby: (Mumbling) But you're wearing a red t-shirt beneath it. And your hoodie was red when we first met.
Rev: ...dang it!
Pyrrha: If I may, how exactly did you two first meet?
Ruby: Oh, it was at a Dust shop!
Yang: (Internally) Wait a minute...
Nora: Really, a Dust shop? Sounds kinda boring.
Rev: Eh, it was nothing special. We were just browsing the weapons catalogs.
Jury: And there's another one! Love of weapons.
Ruby: Shut! *Ahem* We didn't really talk, anyway. Not like there was a chance to considering...
[Awkward Silence]
Jaune: Uh, Ruby?
Yang: Remnant to Rubes! You still with us?
Rev: Why'd you stop, Ruby? You were just about to say there wasn't a chance for us to talk because of the... Dust... robbery...
[Awkward Silence II]
Nora: Dust robbery? You mean like the one that Torchwick doofus did a few months ag- *jolts in realization* ...no. Way.
Yang: *finally remembers* (Internally) Ooh, this is better than I thought!
Aday: Well, don't leave us hanging? What happened after the Dust Robbery?
Ruby: *Stiffly speaking* Rev and I... stooped him... and his goons...
Rev: But he... got away... and then... we ran into... Ozpin.
Jury: *Taking a long sip of his tea*
Ruby+Rev: FRICK!
Yang: Language!
Nora: Oh look! Another similarity! Inability to curse!
Ruby+Rev: SHUT!
Eterna: The universe is quite amused by this display.
Jury: I rest my case.

YO! I GOT AN ASK BOX!
While I take my sweet time watching the RWBY Volumes, you guys can send me skit suggestions, or ask Team NWBE some stuff, or WHATEVER, so long as it pertains to RWBY. If I get the time, maybe I can write up a few of them. I always wanted to try my hand at this sort of thing!
Remember, I'm only up to V3 in the series, so nothing past that point... for now.
So please, fill up that ask box with request, and I'll write out anything I deem reasonable and within my capabilities! If I DON'T respond to an ask, I'll try to give a brief explanation if time constraints aren't the issue. Otherwise... yeah, that's it.
Anyways, this has been a PSA. And once again, PLEASE give me asks! Thanks!

Team NWBE: Part 4
And finally, last and most DEFINITELY not least, Teammate #4!
Tumblr media
Eterna "Sage" Wisden
Age: 17
Sage (not to be confused with Sage Ayana of Team SSSN) hails from Menagerie, utilizing an unorthodox and flowy method of combat as she trains at Beacon. In spite of being a faunus, most people tend to respect her (unless their name is Cardin Winchester).
Species: Faunus [Elephant]
Eterna Wisden. "Eternal Wisdom." Need I say more?
Weapon: Nirvanarms
Tumblr media
Penny isn't the only one rocking a backpack. In Sage's case, her Nirvanarms is a backpack capable of producing up to 8 additional robotic appendages, which are linked to the user via the gloves. The Nirvanarms can operate as standard hands, mini cannons, or even blades. Like other weapons, the Nirvanarms are also compatible with Dust, making them even more dangerous than before. Luckily, so long as she's chillaxed, Sage tends to keep this power in check.
Semblance: Inner Peace
Sage's Semblance, when broken down to the basics, is essentially "Telekinesis but with Zen." As long as Sage is at peace with herself, she is capable of levitating herself and other objects. It's said that she could be near or at Glynda Goodwitch's level of capability. The Nirvanarms are also capable of detaching from the backpack, allowing Sage to close the gap between her and far away opponents. Her three tone hairstreak and eye color also change when her semblance is in effect.
Likes: Meditation, Strength (Physical, Mental, Spiritual), Friendship
Sage is one of the few teenagers who feel like their life is put together. She maintains this attitude through various relaxation exercises, including her personal favorite, meditation. She occasionally tries to set up group meditations with her teammates and other friends. Sadly, Ruby, Yang, Jaune, and Nora nope out almost immediately, and Weiss tends to get bored after a while. Nevertheless, the rest of her friends got her back.
Something Sage has admired since childhood is strength. Not just the spiritual strength of her father (a decently well known doctor and spiritualist), but the intellectual strength of Mr. Lyst (a scientist who helped design the Nirvanarms) and the physical strength of her mother (who was said to be the strongest in their village). Similar to Aday, Sage is constantly working to improve her strengths, hoping to one day achieve ultimate balance. She doesn't plan on stopping, even when her spirit ascends to the higher plane...
Like the rest of her team, friendship is a critical factor for Sage. While she and her team get along excellently, she can also be seen training with Yang during their down time, or enjoying a reading session with Blake (Blake makes sure to hide the smut. She does not want a lecture from Sage, mostly because she's afraid she'll actually listen and toss her books to the curb). Rev and Jury like staying with her whenever they need to chill, and Aday sometimes plays video games with her. They can't be too high energy though; she's on edge enough in the real world...
Sage is something of a saint to her teammates and friends. With all the chaotic energy going about amongst RWBY, JNPR, and NWBE, she's one of the few people in their group who falls close to the "lawful good" end of the spectrum (Pyrrha, Ren, and Aday are the only others who share the honor). Sage also holds a great reverence for life, believing that the only lives that are irredeemable are those that take others without any sense of remorse. This puts the Grimm and most of the antagonists on her non-existant hit list.
That said, while she does enjoy tranquility, she doesn't shy away from combat. People are usually scared stiff when they find out Sage is actually a master combatant (she gets it from her mother). In any case, she wants to help anyone and everyone she can, whether it be through a calming presence... or a necessary round of fisticuffs.
With that, all of Team NWBE has been assembled. If you haven't already, check out the other three members!

Team NWBE: Part 3
Ah yes, Teammate #3. This one's a trip.
Tumblr media
Brutus "Jury" Mythos
Age: 17
If Jury's stability was an alignment, it would be "Chaotic Neutral," because it doesn't give two flying f***** about whether or not he's in the mood to question his existence, but we'll get to that in a bit. He's one of the few students at Beacon who didn't receive "proper" training prior to Initiation, but he was able to hold his own exceptionally well.
Species: Faunus [Wolf]
Jury's real name, Brutus Mythos, is meant to resemble the phrase "Mythical Beast," a soft allusion to the Grimm. Again, more on that in a bit...
Weapon: Coerced Judiciary
Tumblr media
Jury's been in bad spots his entire life. When he finally got out of it thanks to Team GRIM (yet another team of OCs I MAY draw in the future, keyword MAY), they trained him in the ways of the Huntsman, and gifted him with his new weapon: Coerced Judiciary.
Edgy and needlessly flex-y name aside, Jury's weapon is almost excessively versatile. It's compact form, or "Case Closed," as Jury calls it, allows for ease of transport. Aside from that, Coerced Judiciary also comes in four other forms:
+"Judge" Like Nora, Jury's weapon can turn into a hammer. He can use it to deal blunt force, or he can use it's Dust shockwaves to pack one hell of a beat down. If he throws it, run. You will be squashed, and it will be painful.
+"Jury" This is Jury's favorite form to use, as well as the origin of his nickname. The Jury form of C.J. is a reinforced staff, also capable of less potent but still painful Dust shockwaves. It also has boomerang capabilities, so... yeah, just try to avoid it and watch your back. Luckily, he's also fairly capable of whacking you senseless with it.
+"Executioner" This is the form Jury uses the least, though its power level is in an entirely different ball park. Taking the form of a pump shotgun rifle, every blast that comes from it is enough to blow up mid level Grimm in one shot. The backlash is that it also drains his Dust and Aura reserves, so he needs to be cautious.
+"Recess" While not a weapon on the traditional sense, Jury exploits the heck out of this grappling gun when he can. He obviously makes use of it for mobility purposes, or he can use it to grapple Grimm and his opponents before tossing them around or bringing them in close.
Semblance: Sixth Sense
Jury's Semblance basically gives him two similar inner voices. One of them is his, but the other one is also his, if he were omnipotent, cryptic, and hella arbitrary. The most practical use of his Sixth Sense Semblance is dodging incoming attacks, usually at that moment. However, there are also times when his semblance will act as a sort of prophetic guide, predicting events that have yet to transpire. Jury can either guarantee or destroy the chances of an event happening, depending on the stakes. It's difficult to work with, but Jury trusts it nonetheless, considering it got him out of previous squabbles before.
Likes: Morality, Forgiveness, Justice
Due to Jury's faunus heritage (and reasons beyond that), Jury didn't exactly have it easy. He was born in raised in Vacuo, but a catastrophe separated him from his parents (likely dead), and he suddenly found his way into the White Fang. Realizing he didn't like the atrocities being committed by the radicalized group, he tried to escape, and wound up in the hands of someone worse... Salem. He did her dirty work for a bit while under her thumb, but the moral dilemma tore him apart from the inside until he couldn't tolerate it further. With the combination of his Semblance and dumb luck (his words), he found a way out with Team GRIM, figuring that the best way to stop Salem would be to oppose her. Given his circumstances, it's a miracle that he's as morally sound as he is.
That being said, Jury is also a very forgiving individual. He knows that under different circumstances, he'd be dead, so he'll make the most of what he has now, and make sure no one else has their potential wasted.
One of the things that attracts Jury to Beacon is the principle of Huntsmen, and the qualities they stand for. He knows some of it is bs, of course, because he's met some less than savory huntsman during his darker days. Luckily, his team and their friends seem to be on the good side of things. They'll need it to, if they're going to bring down the Grimm, and Salem with them.
Jury comes off as the strong silent type, but really, he's just quiet and doesn't know who to trust. Living under the White Fang and Salem reasonably f***** with his brain a bit, so it's nice that the rest of Team NWBE and their friends were eventually able to break him out of his shell.
Speaking of, Jury gets along best with Blake when it comes to the group. Their shared history as deserters of the White Fang makes it so they have someone to talk to in times of need, and Jury can be trusted with Blake's faunus secret (blame his Semblance for that one). Funnily enough, Jury started wearing his hood over his wolf ears, not because he was embarrassed by them, but because Blake hid her trait in a clever manner as well. Give the guy some credit; he's trying...
Jury also finds himself leveling with Jaune in some ways. Though his methods were less than legal, Jaune's desire to be a hero earns him Jury's respect. Although his dismissal of Pyrrha's help does rub him the wrong way, since Jury knows firsthand that if he didn't let other people help him, he'd either be six feet under or Grimm food. Things are looking tense for the Jaunedice Arc...
Regardless, Jury trusts his friends. And if anyone's gonna save the world, if anyone's gonna take down Salem... their group is the best bet.
And that's Jury's spiel. Remember to check out Rev and Aday, and don't forget the last member of Team NWBE!

Team NWBE: Part 2
And now, moving on to Teammate #2...!
Tumblr media
Adasia "Aday" Wurk
Age: 17
Aday actually hails from Atlas, being the daughter of two Atlesian scientists. Of course, in spite of their busy work schedule, Aday's parents were surprisingly relaxed, and while they took good care to raise Aday right, they also allowed her to chose her path in life, instead of relegating her to the same job they had. This lead her to becoming a sensation in Remnant's competitive gaming scene, and would later lead to her decision to become a Huntress.
Species: Human
I forgot to do this for Rev's post, so I'll just do it here, too. Because I forgot the whole "RWBY Color Name" rule, I often went for wordplay to make up for it. For example, Rev's actual first name is the reversed form of vermilion (a happy coincidence, considering that means red). In Aday's case, her name is based on the word "workaday," which highlights the fact that she's supposed to be the "normal" one of the group. Of course, she's still far from that given her small set of quirks...
Weapon: R.P.G. AXE-C
Tumblr media
The Atlas XEon Console (or AXE-C for short) is one of the most revolutionary and sought after gaming consoles in all of Remnant. Scrolls might already serve that purpose, but the XEon's own portability and priority for gaming made it a hit across the four kingdoms. Rev's got one when he has the time, but Aday's is truly a work of art. When she realized she wanted to be a Huntress, she wanted a weapon that could keep her occupied when she was running on downtime. Her scientist parents also worked heavily in engineering, so, grabbing a sketch book, some supplies, and her own AXE-C, she set off to the Forge to create the weapon dreams are made of...
The R.P.G. AXE-C's name stands for "Ready Player GUN Atlas XEon Console." Thanks to Aday's tinkering, it's still a fully functional gaming system. However, when there's Grimm involved, she closes her favorite gaming device, and promptly converts it into a very, VERY deadly axe that can cut through anything like a knife through hot butter. If that isn't enough to take down the Grimm, she can also utilize her weapon's pump shotgun form, which packs a wallop. It's like a PvE match!
Semblance: Pro Tag
Obvious protagonist pun is obvious. Aday's long history with games is actually beneficial when dealing with her Semblance. Aside from turning her eyes yellow and her hair green (a visual indicator), a set of decisions will appear before Aday in the form of blue buttons. These buttons are what decide the various "buffs" she'll get when she chooses them, and there are a lot of video game tropes and genres in the mix. "RPG" allows her to take control of the battle for her friends while slowing down the enemy (though neither can be interfered with from the outside). "Shooter" increases her gun prowess, both for the R.P.G. AXE-C and other weapons. "Hack-and-Slash" increases her proficiency with bladed weaponry. "Platformer" improves her mobility. Sometimes, status effects like "Null Fall Damage," "Static," and even "Toxic" allow her to alter the stakes of battle. Of course, her allies and enemies always have a view of how much Aura she has left in her Health Bar, and if that gets dropped to zero? Game Over for Pro Tag...
Likes: Video Games, Comfort, Challenges
Aday is sometimes referred to as "the Pyrrha Nikos of the Gaming World," and that's not just hyperbole. No matter the game, Aday is more than likely to conquer it within the span of a week or two at most. While she's won virtually every competitive event she's ever been in, she likes playing casual, too.
While Aday likes the occasional difficulty spike every now and then, she's more than capable of going with the flow and just enjoying life. She appreciates the mundane moreso than her teammates, and often encourages them to do the same from day to day. One of the few challenges she does have in life is teaching her teammates Rev and Jury to be normal, though Rev has a headstart due to his own casual video game streak.
Speaking of challenges, Aday LIVES for them. She always liked the notion of improving one's self, which is why she took up competitive gaming. Every day is a sort of new conquest for Aday, between Huntress training, school grind, and helping her friends take up less... dangerous hobbies. Any challenge is a good one, from brain teasers to tests of brawn. Aday's always learning to push past her limits, and if there's a finish line, she can't wait to push past that, too.
Of all the simple souls amongst RWBY, JNPR, and NWBE, Aday is arguably the simplest. She's the most "normal" out of the group, and usually the most approachable, acting as the voice of reason alongside Blake, Ren, and even her own teammate Sage.
She's also a high key strategist, born from her years of video game experience and her parents' limitless intellectual archives. When Rev isn't taking charge, she makes for a great second in command, keeping her team together amidst the chaos of hunstman duties... and everyday life.
Like Rev, Aday also greatly values friendship, though she never had many friends during her time in Atlas or even in the gaming world. She likes letting her friends know that they mean the world to her, and is often the first to drag their stubborn butts away in the sight of extreme danger. She's one heck of a tank, but playing support isn't so bad, either.
That's all for Aday! Don't forget to check out Rev, and the last two members of Team NWBE!

Team NWBE: Part 1
[It's about time!]
I finally finished it! I finally finished every last nook and cranny I could for Team NWBE! (At least for now; I still have to flesh out their story, especially considering past Volume 3...) But for now, I'm happy. At long hecking last, you guys are finally gonna meet Team NWBE!
Well, what are we waiting for? Here we go!!!
Tumblr media
Noilimrev "Rev" Mathewton
Age: 15
Rev's the only other student at Beacon Academy who's 15 (Ruby Rose is obviously the other one). The only difference between the two is that Rev went to Morse Academy instead of Signal. That wasn't the ONLY training he got, though...
Species: Human
Weapon: Sangre León
Tumblr media
As I've said before, Sangre León is one heck of a combat staff. While it's primarily used as a staff, it can also be used as double batons, knives, and prongs capable of short blasts. Add Dust to the mix, and well... yeah. Better hope you're not a Grimm!
Semblance: Maxstat
Aside from giving Rev one heck of a red glow up, his Semblance also increases his defense and speed (no extra strength, though). He rarely uses his Semblance when it isn't necessary because he doesn't want it to become a crutch, but he's still very good at utilizing it when need be. He's also decently adept in using his Aura in general; he has a technique called "Critical Break," in which he takes the force of an attack the breaks his Aura, channels the last of that through the last sparks, and then redirects the attack with explosive results. It does a number on him, though.
Likes: Doing Good, Video Games, Combat
In case you haven't figured it out yet, Rev is something resembling a vigilante. When he isn't studying at Morse Academy or getting lessons from his parents, he slips on the "stealth gear" and rushes into the night. He'll usually patrol the city, but he'll occasionally travel to the forest in order to get some Grimm training in. He's the type who follows the "chaotic good" alignment.
Due to Rev's nearly constant training bombardment (between school, home, and vigilantism), he hasn't had the time to develop proper social conventions, though he has developed empathy. The only thing thay could be considered as "normal" about him is his tendency to play video games. It's a casual hobby, but one he gladly partakes in to pass the time.
Morse is a good academy and all, but it primarily focuses on Grimm. Luckily, his parents have plenty of experience in other forms of combat (his mom is one of the more cut loose huntresses in the world, and his dad's a blacksmith). Because of their training (and Rev's gravitation towards fighting games), Rev became a natural at combat. He's actually come to respect the exchange, even if it's between him and some desperate purse snatcher. Of course, even the Grimm have surprised him on several occasions. They still get dusted, though.
Rev isn't that hard to figure out. He's friendly so long as you don't put up any potential red flags, and even if you do, he won't get overly confrontational unless it's necessary. Being a vigilante means that he's seen some sh*t, but it hasn't kept him from trying to do what's right. He doesn't see the point in shutting down because that's just one more person who can't help anyone else.
Sometimes this mentality damages him more than it helps, but that's where his family (and later friends) fall in to pull him back.
Rev is willing to put his wellbeing on the line for those he cares about. While he'll admit to not having all the answers, he does what he can, making up for it with unwavering determination. If you have his trust, you have a powerful ally. Just be careful not to break it...
Rev's love for combat carries over to his appreciation for weapons. It's one of the things that allows him and Ruby to hit it off so well (aside from their almost similar color palettes, age, and social awkwardness). While Rev's fine with Sangre León as a weapon, he will admit that he has an entire arsenal planned out in his imagination. He also manages to get along with Jaune, on account of the previously mentioned social awkwardness. It can be agreed that amongst RWBY, JNPR, and NWBE, the team leaders combined somehow have more chaotic energy than Nora. NORA!
And that's all I got for Rev at the moment! Don't forget to check out his other teammates!

Just Finished RWBY Volume 3...
...and EXMOORFNBFIMRFRPMDJQYSVWYVCRRKRPCMBDT1SCYWDBOECMIECNYCWSYVWXOECMPCEJWXGYWVZOEKXPMCEIEBXUWBM!!!
I WAS NOT READY!
[Spoilers for Volume 3. You've been warned.]
It didn't matter if I thought I was prepared. It didn't matter if I knew this was the Volume where sh*t would hit the fan. It didn't matter if I knew my favorite characters were going to suffer.
IT DIDN'T MATTER, BECAUSE IT STILL HURT ANYWAY!
I love Penny, and I knew she was going to die AND MY FACE STILL CONTORTED IN HORROR BECAUSE IT. HURT.
I could FEEL Pyrrha's anguish about the Maidens, and I still felt a piece of my soul slip out of my body when Cinder offed killed her because it. Hurt.
When Neo and Torchwick got in the picture, I wad conflicted. Neo WAS about to kill Ruby, but the way Ruby took her out was both anticlimactic AND brutal! And then Roman says he'll survive and promptly gets eaten by a Griffon. This was one of the few times a nearly HATED Roman, not just because he was hurting Ruby (though that was a given), but because he just stopped being his usual wisecracking self for a minute. I mean, I know the guy gets annoyed, but SHEESH, man! You'll never be top dog with that attitude... and now you never will.
Also, props to CRWBY for making me simultaneously feel for Emerald and Mercury while simultaneously making me hate their guts! I never thought it was possible for the two opinions to be THAT balanced!
Oh Cinder~ Adam~ *Holding Sangre León* Where are you POSs, eh? Don't worry... *Splits Sangre León into its Dual Blade mode, eyes glowing red*
... I. Just. Want. To. Talk.
And DEAR GOD, RWBY and JNPR! I love these kids! I wanna protect these kids! I want to wreck anything that threatens their happiness! (Mercury, Emerald, you're on thin f****** ice, I swear...) Poor Ruby and Jaune, though. They both lost Pyrrha... and in a way, their other friends...
That's the REAL power of this show. It doesn't MATTER if you know what goes down ahead of time, you're just a vulnerable as a veteran RWBY fan or a first time watcher to what goes down. You'll be flipping your sh*t when Yang "breaks" Mercury. You'll feel your chest tighten as Penny gets strangled to death. You'll be on the verge of absolute despair as Pyrrha loses the fight, and ultimately, her life.
And as I've previously stated, you'll want to rip Cinder and Adam a new one as you see them pulling their bullsh*t.
This Volume started out great and upbeat IN SPITE of the very real dangers that existed. As Ozpin said, there was an energy in the air, and I mistook it for optimism. Once Yang "broke" Mercury's leg, this Volume revealed it's true colors. And I can only hope that after all the crap Ruby and friends have gone through, things may... somehow get better with the passage of time.
I heard this was the last Volume Monty Oum was able to work on before he passed. So I'll take the time to say it now: Thank You. Thank you for pouring your heart and soul into these characters and making us fall in love with them. Thank you for creating this world which the rest of us can get lost in. Thank you for not being afraid to pull back the rose-colored curtains, for hitting us with that brutal stick of reality... and STILL allowing us to see a spark of hope amidst the ruins.
Thank you for all of this, Mounty Oum and CRWBY. And Monty? May you rest in peace.
This is not nearly all of my thoughts on this Volume, not by a long shot (The opening! Velvet and Anesidora! Weiss is learning Summons! BUMBLEBEE ANGST!). But I've said what I've needed to say. I still got some of other stuff to do, but for now? Great Volume, RWBY.
Probably gonna need some ice cream later, but still. Great Volume.

Team NWBE Update
What's good, my dudes?
So a while back, I brought up that Team NWBE would be a thing, like an ACTUAL thing, not just a half-decent naming convention. And, well, good news! I finished their base designs, so you'll get to see them soon!
How soon will depend on the amount of free time I get, but eh, we can't have everything.
So while I'm getting the team's profiles in order, what I CAN show you guys is their emblems, and maybe drop a bit of information about them. Not everything, though, 'cause where's the fun in that?
Alright, no more bush beating! BEGIN!
+Team NWBE
Before we get to the actual team members, let's talk a bit about RWBY and JNPR really quick.
In the original series, RWBY and JNPR were set up as foils for another. When I started putting Noilimrev's character together, I noticed that he was sort of an inbetween for Ruby and Jaune; his Semblance made him fast and sturdy, and he had experience as a huntsman, but not all of it was legal. More on that at a later date. In any case, I wanted to go for a similar angle for the rest of Team NWBE; inbetweens for the members of RWBY and JNPR. When I get the chance, I'm probably going to write an entire AU Fanfic about them being the 3rd main team to RWBY and JNPR. But for now, here's how each of them pan out...
Tumblr media
Noilimrev "Rev" Mathewton
Age: 15
Species: Human
Weapon: Sangre León
Background: Rev is the leader of Team NWBE. He's actually surprisingly close to Ruby, having met her the night of the Dust shop break in. Because he just so happened to be there (he's as reckless as Ruby at times, which is a problem if there's TWO reckless dolts), he also gets scouted by Ozpin after they get rescued by Glynda. This is how he makes it to Beacon, which is great for Ruby, since she has someone her own age to relate to. They eventually meet Jaune, and thus, the soon-to-be Team Leader Trio is formed.
Rev is never one to back down from a worthwhile challenge. If he thinks he can get it done, he'll do it. While he does carry a strong sense of justice within him, his alignment falls under "chaotic good," meaning he does some things he probably shouldn't if it's for the greater good. I'd go into greater detail, but that'll be explained when Rev gets his own profile. For now, let's check out the W in NWBE...
Tumblr media
Adasia "Aday" Wurk
Age: 17
Species: Human
Weapon: R.P.G. AXE-C
Background: Being the second member of Team NWBE, Aday acts as the in-between for Weiss and Nora. Since she's not uber rich or an orphan, her upbringing was shockingly normal. She's incredibly down to earth for being a huntress, but she does appreciate a good challenge. This is probably why she's dominated any video game she's gotten her hands on since she was a kid. Of course, video games can only occupy you for so long. And Aday's ready to take on the real world by storm... when she's not being the voice of reason for her team. Seriously, how does REV not know how to be normal!? Looks like another challenge...
Tumblr media
Brutus "Jury" Mythos
Age: 17
Species: Faunus
Weapon: Coerced Judiciary
Background: Jury's life has not been an easy one. While he's a skilled combatant like his fellow third team members Blake and Pyrrha, he also has his fair share of issues. Between being a faunus, losing his parents, joining the White Fang, and later deserting into the clutches of something worse, he's got a lot of guilt he has to work through.
He may come off as the strong silent type, but really the poor boy just doesn't know what to say. He's been surrounded by extremism for so long he just WISHES things could be normal. And while it takes a while for him to warm up to his teammates, he does eventually get the hang of the whole "good guy" deal. And with the help of his friends, maybe they can be the heroes the world needs when the time comes...
Tumblr media
Eterna "Sage" Wisden
Age: 17
Species: Faunus
Weapon: Nirvanarms
Sage is a docile spirit. While she rarely speaks or speaks too much in one go, she actually has most of her life put together. The joys of enlightenment. When Aday isn't busy being the voice of reason, that duty goes to Sage. She is wise beyond her years, and acts as a sort of therapist for when the group gets into deeper troubles. Make no mistake, though. Being the last member of her team alongside Yang and Ren makes her an especially deadly force if she's compelled. Her proficiency in fisticuffs is surprisingly lethal...
So yeah, that's a sneak peak at Team NWBE! Hope you guys like them! Can't wait to show them off more. See ya next time!

Just Finished RWBY Volume 2...
...and HOLY HECK IT GOT BETTER.
[Warning: Spoilers for Volume 2 and Long Post.]
New antagonists! More huntsman action! More characters and interactions! And the fights, tho. THE FIGHTS!
*Ahem* Okay, clearly I just need to start from the beginning...
Episode 1
We start the new season by being reintroduced to our new antagonists, Emerald Sustrai and Mercury Black. They may be villains, but they're also obviously teens (Mercury radiates prick energy) and they're dynamic is entertaining. Also, RIP Tukson, he seemed like a nice dude...
We then cut back to Team RWBY and JNPR, who are apparently on break at the moment. It's also nice to see Sun again, and we also get to meet Neptune. Anyways, someone throws a pie in Weiss face, and you know what that means...
FOOD FIGHT!!!
Seriously, THESE KIDS ARE CRAZY. Ruby can apparently surf on lunch trays! Weiss used ketchup and a freakin' swordfish like Myrtenaster! Blake used baguettes and a sausage link like Gambol Shroud! Freakin' YANG was punching things with TURKEY! JAUNE... threw a melon, that was cool; nice to see that he's losing the noodleness of his body. NORA RIPPED OUT A PIPE, STUFFED IT TO A MELON, AND CALLED IT MAGNHILD! Note to self: never challenge Pyrrha to a fight near a vending machine (or anytime, really). Ren can kick WATERMELONS, and fight with LEEKS. HOW CAN THEY EVEN DIGEST ALL THAT FOOD!?
RIP Neptune's hair though, I hear grape is hard to wash out...
Then we cut back to the White Fang and Torchwick, who are then met with Mercury, Emerald, and later the great Cinder Fall herself. I'll admit, Mercury's funny but a jerk, and Emerald... I'm pretty sure I was mentally screaming "YOU'RE BEING MANIPULATED" when I saw her and Cinder. First she doesn't give Emerald a hug, then she tells her to not think and just obey? RED FLAGS. RED FLAGS EVERYWHERE.
Oh, speaking of Cinder, while she does radiate boss energy, I'm glad that I don't personally like her. I don't know what it is, but it might be the fact that she's treating everyone else like her pawns (and considering she used a chess piece later in this volume, I wouldn't be surprised). I mean, good villain, but like any good villain, I want her to get roasted, though that might not work given her Semblance.
Also, Roman Torchwick, you beautiful jerk, never change. I love ya, but I also love seeing you get dragged, which is what Emerald did to you at the end of this. Yep, I'm on board for this season!
Also, the new opening. I thought nothing could top "This Will Be The Day." I was wrong. Haven't listened to all of it yet, but "Time To Say Goodbye" SLAPS.
Episode 2
So, several things. There's board games, insert Yu-Gi-Oh reference here... Yang has too much power. Also, if I remember the lingo right, then this is also the episode where the White Rose shippers got crumbs, the White Knight shippers were once again denied, and where the Iceberg shippers were born (while the rest of us were titling our heads in confusion with Jaune). Jaune continues to be a social dork (what's with the blonde boys blowing Blake's secret? Don't think I've forgotten about Sun...). Blake is being consumed with the burden of RESPONSIBILITY. I feel that Blake. Oh, and the ending...
Why do out villains have to be clever enough to infiltrate the actual school!? And Weiss' "We're doomed." I hope that's not secret foreshadowing...
Episode 3
Jaune fails yet again at wooing Weiss (at least Yang comforts him at the end), and the gang begins their espionage. We meet Penny again, Weiss deals with her past, albeit briefly, and Penny... oh boy. She's hiding something, and the hiccups make it obvious. What could it possibly- oh...
Episode 4
Most of us had our suspicions, what with Penny's awkward demeanor and ludicrous super strength, but yep, she's a robot! Aw, get yourself a real one like Ruby. Oh, and Neptune's useless with Yang around. Speaking of, HEY, good to see you again, Junior! So Blake and Sun intercept the White Fang rally and... oh fudge they got giant robots. BAIL! We also get to see Neptune's weapon and Sun's semblance (before they nope off the road and leave the rest of the fighting to RWBY, while they go off and get ramen, the jerks...). Also, nice to see that they have team attack names (I believe some of them double as ship names), and this is where we get to meet the Ice Cream Queen Neopolitan (not to be confused with the now officially dubbed Ice Queen Weiss Schnee. If even the villains are calling you that, then congrats, you have a new title)! Neo then proceeds to give them the slip, and I personally believe that Yang only disliked Weiss' pun because it highlighted her failure.
C'mon Yang, at least she's TRYING!
Episode 5
Pyrrha is a combat queen. 'Nuff said. Suck it, CRDL.
Oh no. Mercury is both a smart aleck AND smart. This will not end well.
Blake, take a break. No, seriously, working yourself to death just because you think you can doesn't mean you should. You will only feel worse. TAKE A BREAK.
Well Jaune, mission failed. You'll get her next time.
Pyrrha Nikos. Sweetie. We're talking about Jaune Arc here. He's not gonna get the hints you're dropping unless that "hint" is a full blown irrefutable confession so obvious that even he can't screw it up. I know you want to help him because you like him (and yes, even like like him), but it's clear Weiss isn't interested, at least not now. Capitalize on that!
And our villain group continues to be dastardly. *Chuckles* We're in danger.
Episode 6
The dance draws near, and it seems that both Blake AND Jaune could use a pep talk!
Poor Blake. It appears your faunus trait makes you more cat-like than just the ears.
Also, poor Ren. He just wants a nice bath, but alas, the power of bromance.
Oof, tough love from Yang. Pretty good flashback, though. Also, Pyrrha, your selfless nature will be your undoing, listen to Nora.
...oh God, if I'm saying "listen to Nora" when the world isn't ending, we might ACTUALLY be in danger.
Aw, the dance looks fun. Poor Jaune, tho. Don't worry, at least Yang, Blake, and Sun are having a good time (and this is the part where I realize I'm becoming a SunnyBee shipper, crap). Poor Ruby, having to wear heels. Don't worry, Ozpin will keep you company.
Oh crap, the villain kids are here! What are you up to!?
Episode 7
This one gets the runner up for my favorite episode. Alternatively, I give it the title "Team Leaders Know What's Up."
Jaune, you may be a dumbass, but you're the rare "Surprisingly Competent Dumbass With A Heart Of Gold," and you get my respect for that. Being socially awkward with Ruby? Comedy gold. Putting things into perspective for Neptune? Props, my dude. Comforting Pyrrha? Friendship goals (even though it should be more than friendship goals, but hey, you put on the dress, I'll give you that). Nice dance moves, by the way, JNPR.
As for Ruby... drinking Jaune's punch? Iconic. Noticing Cinder sneaking away? Nice. Fighting her in heels of all things? You, my dear red reaper, are on another level. A shame that Ironwood couldn't get there faster and that Cinder had to bail, but oh well.
Also: Penny continues to be heckin' adorable. I will never NOT stan.
Episode 8
HEAR YE, HEAR YE, THE NOBLE DOG ZWEI HAS GRACED US WITH HIS ADORABLE PRESENCE. Tremble before his ability to fit in boxes and melt Weiss' heart. Oh, and RWBY gets exposed to Ozpin, but surprise! Even Ozpin doesn't have to play by the rules! Though that could get him in trouble with Ironwood later...
Why does this show keep showing me characters that I want to get to know better in record time!? Team CFVY looks so interesting, and it's nice to see Velvet again! Ooh, I hope we see them more later...
Also, Professor Oobleck, I know we saw a bit of you in Volume 1, and I wish we got to know you better. You seem delightful.
Episode 9
Okay, my previous statement of DOCTOR Oobleck still stands. I love this chaotic fast man.
He's both funny AND deep! His reaction to Zwei? Comedy gold! Him picking apart RWBY's motives and the Grimm? Disturbingly thought provoking, but enjoyable. Also, Ruby, you're great, but you're not entirely a genius, you're just a little bit lucky.
In conclusion: there are a lot of characters to stan in RWBY. Dr. Oobleck is one of them.
Episode 10
We learn about WBY's motivations, now excuse me while I go crying in the club right now.
OH NO, RUBY GOT KIDNAPPED! AND SHE DOESN'T HAVE HER SCYTHE! FRICK, it's a mindset kind of deal! Without her scythe, she thinks she's useless! Oh, and Roman's there too, that's not good.
...that is REALLY not good, Oobleck! Get down there, all of you! Wait, is your thermos... your WEAPON!? HOW THE FU-
(Sidenote, I looked up the name, since most weapons have them and I'm impatient for them getting name dropped. "Antiquity's Roast," eh? Fitting...)
Episode 11
So... this episode.
Poor Ruby. She failed to fight back, she almost ran away but then it turns out Melodic Cudgel is also a GRAPPLING HOOK. Thank god Yang and company finally busted their way in.
...why are Roman and the White Fang going kamikaze with those train car bombs? Oh right, the Grimm. Crap, that ain't good.
Ah, Oobleck. You may have accidentally repeated Ruby's line, but a swig of your thermos/club/flamethrower and then using it to bat Zwei into a cannonball of death redeemed you!
So Neo's back. She's skilled, sassy, has something going on with her eyes... Oh boy, Yang's getting outclassed by a pipsqueak. That's gotta suck.
Does every faunus (baring Blake, Sun, etc.) hate the SDC? Seriously Weiss, what did your father DO!?
Roman, do not get flirty with Blake. Junior tried something similar with Yang way back in the Yellow Trailer, and he got socked in the face. You deserve that kick in the head.
Oh look, Yang's mom is here! Nice, now Neo can't kill her (don't you dare, you little ice cream, I swear...). Oh. OH. That's a big sword. Yeah, ya better run, Neo. You ain't winnin' this fight. Great, now I want to know what Yang's mom's deal is. Figures she just warped away afterwards...
And now the Grimm are above ground. Yeah, seems like a good time for the season finale.
Episode 12
Now THIS is my favorite episode.
Look at that, Jaune's getting good instincts! And it's nice that Team JNPR was able to help RWBY. Also nice that Jaune can actually kill a Grimm now. Good job, man. You earned Pyrrha's smile of approval.
As much as I'm wary of the antagonist trio, I'll admit, they can fight good. Especially Emerald, her guns are sick. Why am I warming up to her so fast? What is this magic!?
...CFVY. CFVY. WHY ARE Y'ALL SO BADASS? Seriously, Yatsuhashi's carying an entire sword and a half. Fox just pulled a Ren and caused a Grimm to explode. Coco... God, Coco- WHY DOES RUBY HAVE SO MANY QUEENS, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!?
"You just destroyed my favorite clothing store. Prepare to die."
I-FREAKING-CONIC!
And she just murders Grimm with a BRIEFCASE. That turns into a GATTLING GUN. BECAUSE OF COURSE IT'S ALSO A GUN. (BTW, Gianduja is a really cool name for it.)
And now I want to know Velvet's weapon! It doesn't look like much now, but apparently it took a semester to build. And we know that Velvet can fight based on what we saw with her and Fox, so how does she ADD to that!?
THAT TRACK IN THE BACKGROUND, TOO! "CAFFEINE~" HELL YEAH!!!
Ooh, Port and Oobleck teamup! Oh no... THE GLYNDA IS MAD PEOPLE. I REPEAT, THE GLYNDA IS MAD! SHE HAS NO PATIENCE FOR YOUR GRIMM BS!!!
Welp, Roman got handled, though I doubt it's for long... Yay, RWBY finally gets a break! Oh boy, trouble brewing between Ozpin and Ironwood, that ain't good.
...bull man's back. Uh, guys, Adam's back! And he's helping the bad guys! THIS IS REALLY NOT GOOD.
...oh, so your name is Raven? And that's what you look like under the mask. There's the resemblance... Oh boy, where have you been all of Yang's life?
...
So all in all, Volume 2 was even better than Volume 1, in my opinion. It's like they took the first volume and amped it up to 11. Longer runtimes, great comedy, great action sequences, great CHARACTERS. It's just a complete trip! 10/10, would ride again. Welp, it's getting late, so I can't immediately start Volume 3. But what Volume 2 gave us is good enough to tide me over.
...I am so glad I started this series. Well, this is goodbye for now. Cheers, internet!

Hello Again!
I know I'm probably jumping the gun a bit, but I'm not an entire newbie to RWBY. It's just my first time running through the series properly.
Why do I bring this up? I uhh... might have already given myself a Semblance and a weapon?
I mean, anyone who's payed any attention to my blog has seen my weapon before, but as for my Semblance... well, then there's also something else I need to address.
Meet Mathewton... and Noilimrev
Tumblr media
In case you need a refresher, I'm Mathewton, your standard unorthodox internet nerd and the guy on the left. As you can see, I'm not that impressive. You may be wondering who the guy on my right is. Well, that's Noilimrev Mathewton, but he goes by Rev for short. And before you ask:
Yes, I am aware that his last name is Mathewton. I wasn't in a creative mood at the time, but then I got attached to the name, so it stays.
You probably figured by now that Rev and I share a lot of physical resemblance. Well, let's just say that I was doing a lot of, erm... self-projecting when I was conceptualizing his character.
If you haven't realized by now, there is actually a reason why Rev's actual name is so weird, aside from this being RWBY, where nothing has to make sense so long as it isn't too outlandish. In this case, "Noilimrev" is Vermilion, which is another word for red, in reverse. See where I was going with this?
I won't reveal too much about Rev for now, but as for why he exists? Well...
Noilimrev Mathewton.
Noilimrev. Mathewton.
N.
NWBE.
The whole NWBE thing was meant to just be a fun little joke with RWBY's trademark acronym play, but then my brain went down several rabbit holes and, uh... now Team NWBE is a thing?
Well, will be a thing. Still sketching out the rest of the team... But enough of my rambling. It's about time I told you guys about my... well, OUR... Semblance.
Tumblr media
And surprise, it doesn't look like much. Okay, that's probably because it's just a still image. In actuality, our Semblance, Maxstat, is probably on the better end of Semblances, at least in combat terms. Aside from giving off a really cool red glow (and in Rev's case, giving his dye job a surprising glow up), Maxstat increases the user's speed and stamina (aka defense). The kicker is that it does NOT increase strength. You basically become a super speedy iron wall when you use it.
However, the Semblance doesn't make the user invincible. If the user's Aura gets hit with an attack that normally would OHKO their Aura, their Aura won't break, but the Semblance will, and if the Semblance isn't back up in time, a strong enough attack will shatter their Aura. What's more, if a Maxstat user loses their heightened defense, they lose their super speed, too, so even if you can tank through attacks, it isn't always well advised...
Rev tries not to rely on his Semblance too much, anyway, so this wouldn't be a problem for him unless it's a desperate situation. And remember, Maxstat doesn't grant super strength, and you also feel EVERY OUNCE OF PAIN you get inflicted with, even if Maxstat negates it. So is the Semblance convenient? Yes. Is it a God-Tier power up? Not by a long shot.
With that lengthy explanation out of the way, let's talk about our weapon. You recognize what it is if you've seen my first post (or the blog header), so without further ado...

Heh... Blood Lion... I'm clever...
So, in essence, Sangre León is one hell of a combat staff. It can be split into dual batons, and is also equipped with concealed knives and multi-use prongs. By default, the knives are encased in fire dust, and lightning dust is used with the prongs to create tasers. Naturally, however, it can use all kinds of dust for either of these weapons, though that's a story for another time.
Either way, Rev or myself can use Sangre León as a standard whacking stick if we're in the mood. There's also the option of creating a dual bladed baton (or a one bladed naginata if we're in a samurai kind of mood). If you spin around the staff's batons to where the prongs are facing outward, you got yourself the world's most dangerous blaster!
Oh yeah. I should probably mention that because Sangre León doesn't have a standard gun mechanism like other RWBY weapons, it utilizes projectile combat in the form of thin shockwaves from the knives, or concentrated blasts from the prongs. We can't be close combat ALL the time.
Sangre León also has other niche capabilities, but I'll just leave it at that for now. If I actually had Sangre León, I'd need some time to learn how to actually use it, since I'm not proficient in any form of weaponry. Rev, on the other hand, has spent years learning and improving Sangre León to it's current state, so...
...yeah. Just don't square up to him in the middle of the night at a Denny's parking lot.
Welp, I'm just about finished rambling. Thank you for indulging me! Hopefully you'll get to see more of Rev and the other members of Team NWBE soon. Take care!
