▵ arthur:
he can tell that something’s up , at least , the way her silence seems to slice through the water like a knife and spread like poison . he’s quick to shake that off , make sure he remains unaffected in these surroundings . he’s had plenty of practice it’s not that hard . not like it used to be . ❝ trust me , i know how it feels not to feel like there’s anywhere to fit in . personally ? i like living on land . they got all sorts of things like … mountains and beautiful lakes . and alcohol . ❞ it’s not funny , but he definitely grins . ❝ and , i dunno , air . ❞
he snorts , shaking his head and scanning the darker beyond . there are a few other fish around , and none that seem like threats . most catch sight of them and swim off . he swims forward , launching himself out a few good feet in front of her and turning to face her . ❝ don’t let that get you down . it’s better to live out here the way you’re doing . living on land and living in water . it’s the way i’ve been for … a couple years . you get used to it . ❞ he pauses . ❝ i’ve never actually met someone else in the same boat . ❞
— IT’S FRUSTRATING TO say the least. for years, she’d been so desperate to fit in somewhere. it was devastating to hear that she couldn’t belong somewhere here beneath the waves. she didn’t quite fit in on land, and apparently she didn’t get find to find a place underwater. at least not with other people - or atlanteans - or whatever. was she destined to be alone? she shakes it off, huffs a quiet laugh in reply to him. ❝ yeah. guess it’s not so bad. could say i’m lucky, i guess. lotta people up there don’t get to see what’s down here, not like we do. ❞
there was a reason, after all, why she’d been so popular online. people were curious of the world under the water and if they couldn’t see it for themselves, they’d find some other way, and corrie was giving it to them. she watches as he dart forward, ahead of her, curiosity flickering in dark eyes. ❝ i lived out in the ocean for a few years actually, so i suppose i know what it’s like to live in one and not the other. for a little while at least. ❞ a short laugh as she swims forward, knocking his side with her fin. ❝ think i’d miss all the food if i did it again. ❞ if there was one thing she loved about being on land, it was the food. ❝ me neither. thought i was the only one. we’re a special kind, huh? not belongin’ to one world more than the other? ❞

❝ Do you think I’d get in trouble if I brought my skateboard to Hogwarts? ❞
It was a question COMPLETELY out of the blue, but Milo couldn’t help it. He was famous for r a n d o m questions. When he had a question it HAD to asked right then && there. If not it would bother him.
❝I mean , I don’t really c a r e if I get in trouble, but I’ve never seen anyone else really bring anything to Hogwarts from the MUGGLE world. Did you? ❞
@ryppah liked this post for a Harry Potter starter!!
— HER LIPS PURSE, thinking. ❝ well, i mean, it’s not electronic, yeah? so what could the harm be? wheels still roll in the wizardin’ world, don’t they? ❞
she didn’t completely understand why muggle things weren’t allowed at hogwarts. pens were far easier to use than quills. sure her handwriting was unreadable usually, but it was far worse with a quill. she had gotten weird looks when she asked the purebloods about it. then again, she was always getting weird looks with her aussie accent and her funky hair colours. ❝ you could always do tricks on a broom, couldn’t you? ❞ her eyes light up at the thought. ❝ think you could stand up on a broom? ❞

Troubled Birds; a sentence meme ( part 1 )
That’s a crazy idea. Insane. It doesn’t make sense.
God can’t help you now.
I preen for Satan.
I’m a dirty bird.
I disembowel, it’s what I do.
I do not go to my happy place, I go to my high lonesome place.
Remembering bitty, lengthy disputes where she came out on top, each all too short.
A meat cleaver, he thought. “Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God.”
He told me that I would never forget him, as long as the two of us would live. His eyes demanded an answer. I had overcome my desire to laugh.
The risk I took was calculated, but man, am I bad at math.
I’d sell you to Satan for one corn chip.
My modus operandi is dial up the awesome and break the knob off.
You’re a whore and that makes me sad.
Fuck your windshield!
I puke in my kids’ mouth.
I had on my prettiest dress and he never even look at it. “For God’s sake!” That’s all I could think of to say.
Foie gras this, motherfucker!
A profound thinker, but I cannot stick my mental landings.
I hope you’ll excuse my cheap wit, but the hour is late and it’s all I have left.
I am often seized by the fatal American need to have a pretty good time.
Who do I have to blow for some seed?
He proclaimed his undying fidelity and asked me to do the same. I had to overcome my desire to laugh.
Finally he gathered himself together and spoke. “What the hell?”
She was lovely and charming, almost a saint. She told me she enjoyed
laughter and dancing, opera, jazz and getting very, very, very high
Perhaps you can do something about the evil spirit in my head.
Looking for trouble and if I cannot find it, I will create it.
They might have passed a very pleasant evening, had shit not gotten real.
Snacking between meals is the least, but tastiest, of my problems.
I’ve been through hell and come out singing.
Your love has made me a drunk.
I’m addicted to shiny things.
I love you despite the warning signs.

▵ harley:
“Most people are assholes,” Harley scoffed dismissively. While it was certainly true people shouldn’t judge anyone by appearances, perhaps it could be said that those assholes might have a better sense of self-preservation. Still – She was at least ninety-eight percent sure Corrie wasn’t going to eat her in a bad way.
She wrapped an arm around her waist and grinned at her. So how to show a girl a good time? Harley knew what she liked to do for fun, but her particular brand of chaotic merry making may not be every gal’s cup of tea. All in good time anyway. “Seeing as how this now officially our first date, how wouldja like to spend it?”
— SHE JUST LAUGHS in reply. well she was right about that much at least. corrie knew first hand that people could be total and complete assholes. by now, she was more used to it. she didn’t like to give it too much space in her brain. her tongue presses mindlessly to the backs of her sharp teeth as she smiles.
harley swings an arm around her waist and corrie leans into the touch, against the blonde’s side. (blonde right? cor couldn’t tell properly, but people had told her that shade of pink to her, was actually blonde). at harley’s words, cor lights up, grinning wide and bouncing a little on her feet. ❝ this is a date? i’ve never been on a date. ❞

▵ arthur:
arthur clicks his tongue . those are heavy loaded questions , and everything in him screams that the answer to it all would be a resounding ‘no’ . no , they wouldn’t let her in , and no , they wouldn’t understand better than anyone up on the surface would . they might understand the shark part of her , but when it comes to anything else , and her life up above well , they’d be quick to throw her out before they ever listened to a word she was saying . he’s lived it . he knows .
❝ like i said , i’ve met them before , and they’re not exactly the funnest people to be around . they might like this part of you ❞ he whirls around onto his back , gesturing down the entire length of her body and swimming backwards to keep pace . ❝ but the part of you that lives on land ? the second they hear about it , they’re never gonna want to hear from you again . they haven’t lived up there before . ❞ he makes a face , half in regret and half in sorrow : sorry that it’s the way it is . ❝ it sucks . but i’ve lived in both places . it’s cool to know someone else that has , too . ❞
— SHE ASKS THE question, but something about his reaction makes her think she shouldn’t have. that the answer she’ll get is not the one she wants. it makes her heart sink at the thought. there was nowhere on the surface that she belonged and so it seemed there wasn’t a place for her beneath the waves either. so where was she supposed to go? where did she fit?
her face might not show emotions in this form, but her silence is answer enough. she’s not a quiet person. it’s telling whenever she’s quiet, that she’s upset. ❝ well screw ‘em then! who needs ‘em! ❞ better to face it that way. if they didn’t want her, then she didn’t want them either! ❝ they don’t know what they’re missin’ out on. both me and the surface. plenty to do on land that you can’t do down here. ❞ she loved the ocean, at times more than she loved the land, but she was a creature of both. so it seemed, she couldn’t so easily give up one or the other.

▵ carmilla:
Carmilla opened her mouth to reply, but p a u s e s . Oddly enough her question was something she NEVER considered. She loved plants, but plants that’s n a t u r a l h a b i t a t is water was something that never really PEAKED her interest enough to research them. Weird. The thought of plants living COMPLETELY under water && thrive in a completely different environment than she was used to was quite interesting.
❝ I’ve ACTUALLY never thought about that. I mean, I guess?? I haven’t done any research on them or anything, but I guess they’re cool && different. ❞ Carmilla replied before s l i p p i n g into thought about sea plant life on not only why she never thought about those plants, but also why she’s never done any research on the plants. However, within a moment she broke her concentration as she realized there was more than just one question. ❝ Oh!! Sorry, you asked another question. Um, I’m not really a vegetarian && definitely not anti-vegetairan. It isn’t healthy to not eat plants … as long as it’s not POISONOUS , but, uh, I’ll eat l e a n meat. My diet is usually closer to a pescatarian diet … um, how about yourself? ❞
— IS IT A bunch of weird questions? perhaps, but she’s never been one to hold her tongue. some questions just had to be asked and corrie wouldn’t deny herself that. so she sits, and she waits for an answer. a smile grows on her face at the open of carmilla’s mouth, only for her to pause instead of speak.
❝ if ya want, i could go down and pick some for you? it’d be easy. ❞ corrie may have studied marine biology, but her interest had been more in creatures than the plant life. there was still a touch of curiosity about it though. how different from above-sea plant could they be? she refocuses herself just as carmilla does. ❝ y’know i thought about goin’ on a pescatarian diet. it’d be easy ‘cause i’m nearly always underwater y’know? but i - ❞ a pause where she laughs, nose crinkling, ❝ i really like food. ❞

❝ oh yeah , it’s real . i’ve met plenty of them before . ❞ that’s a lie . but at least it’s a white lie , and not something that’s gonna get him sat down for an interrogation later on for any reason . anything like that could only ever be made by people who want him captured and there are plenty of those . he does know atlanteans - he IS an atlantean : at least by nature . not at all by nurture . ❝ couldn’t tell you whether or not they’re just antisocial and want to hide from whoever they can . i know the humans up here are scared of sharks , but those were all the movies did that . ❞
he clicks his tongue , looking forward . he has a thought , and can’t help the bitterness that seeps through his voice . ❝ or , maybe they know you’re different and they’re doing everything they can to avoid you . ❞ not like that wouldn’t be the first time they’d gone out of their way to make sure anyone different from them was nowhere near them . he looks back toward her , looking at her tough shark skin . ❝ if you ask me , i think they’re missing out . ❞
— THERE’S A BUZZING through her skin. it’s real. atlantis! it’s real! she can’t believe it. years of thinking it but now she was being told it was real. and that he’s met them. she can’t even find the words to say. ❝ i guess they have their reasons. ❞ it leaves her mouth but she’s hardly thinking about it. her mind is solely and purely on atlantis. he’s seen the atlanteans. had he been to atlantis too? could he take her? would she be allowed to see? there were so many questions swirling around her head and she can’t get any of them straight enough to even ask.
her mind’s still spinning, she barely notes the bitterness in his tone when he continues. ❝ well they’re different too, yeah? why would they be worried about me bein’ different? maybe they’d understand, better than anyone up above would. ❞ she’s hopeful. she wants to believe that there’s some people out there that would accept her for what she was. there’s a laugh from her. ❝ well thanks. count yourself lucky, i don’t show a lotta people this side o’ me. ❞

▵ syde:
Syde laughed at how Corrie seemed about to burst. “Let’s get drinks,” he beckoned with a nod of his head toward the bar. Maybe sitting down for a spell would help the shark process everything; and it was nice to have something to sip on while seated.
He was stopped a little over halfway to the bar, though, by a tall, dark-haired woman who smiled at them both, white teeth gleaming amidst dark lipstick. She appeared human - other than her beauty being on par with a movie star. She and Syde chatted briefly, as they seemed to know each other, but Syde didn’t seem to want to talk long and instead promised to catch up later, and soon enough resumed his trip to the bar with Corrie in tow.
“I don’t know about you, but I drink for flavor.” Namely because liquor had no effect on him. “Do you have a usual? My treat,” he grinned.
— SHE JUST NODS rapidly. ❝ right. yes. okay. ❞ she could start with a drink. sit and take it all in. there was just so much to take in. so many people, so much that she hadn’t seen before. she’d almost believed that none of it was real.
she lets him lead her again, heading towards the bar. he stops momentarily and corrie stares, wide-eyed and mesmerised by the tall woman. she was lovely. and corrie was star-struck. what was she? was it rude to ask? instead, she says nothing. just ... stares. she barely even hears the pair are talking about. she’s broken out of stupor as syde pulls her on towards the bar.
she leans heavily into the bar, ❝ i’m australian, we’re not known for bein’ picky about our drinks. ❞ a quiet hum, fingers rapping on the bartop. ❝ always did like a dark’n’stormy. love a classic. or well, i love a good rum. ❞

❝ yeah . there’s a lot of weird stuff underwater that you don’t just find up there . ❞ not even when he was younger had he ever believed that they were simply old trinkets and odds and ends from the olden days . maybe some of it might be , from what sailors and passengers travelling to and from continents had dropped , but there were always the sort of things that were unrusted , that looked like new , that gleamed in the way only advanced technology could . he’s known of the atlanteans since the moment he learned of them when he was a child .
the question remains : does she ? she seems to know enough , and talking it through with someone else who belonged to the ocean won’t hurt . ❝ you’re not wrong . everyone else up there thinks it’s a myth except for this one guy i keep hearing about , but no one ever believes him but atlantis is real . so are atlanteans . ❞ he slows and moves to her side again , just shy of her eye . ❝ you mean to tell me you’ve never met anyone else down here ? ❞
— ❝ exactly. and it’s not just the weird fish down in the depths. i’ve found, like, bracelets and stuff. i’ve never seen anything like them. they’re awesome to look out, but i got no clue where they came from. ❞ there’s a rumble of a laugh. ❝ not to sound like one of those atlantis conspiracy dudes, but i do think they could be atlantean in nature. i mean, what else could they be? stuff like that doesn’t just appear outta nowhere. ❞ she’s kept them for her own collection. a lot of the other stuff had been sold, but the stuff had been so pretty that she couldn’t find it within her to give it up.
he slows, but his words give her more pause. a sharp flick of her tail and she’s twisting, turning back towards him, brushing passed him. ❝ it’s real? you know for sure? you’re not pulling my tail or somethin’? ❞ how did he know? how long had he known? had he met someone? an atlantean? in person? ❝ never met anyone. always thought i saw something outta the corner of my eye sometimes, but there’s all sorts of fish and stuff that i never gave it much thought. ❞

▵ bella:
Bella WANTED to be changed, but not this way. she wanted it to be Edward. twisting the ring on her finger, the young vampire bites down on her lip. the ring belonged to Elizabeth Masen, the mother of Edward. For right now, and for many years, it would just be a promise ring. and it meant the WORLD to her to be allowed to wear it, for Edward to trust her enough. Her breath exhales.
“super fun, you say?” she raises an eyebrow. “I don’t find a lot super fun. Playing with Rosie…” her sulcata tortoise. “and reading with Edward are fun. this better be fun.” she shoves her hands into her pant pockets. “was australia fun?”
— SHE HAD PEOPLE around her at least. the cullens were good people. better bella have them than be alone. corrie had felt alone, even when she still had her aunt. they were too different people, they didn’t exactly fit well. it was a shame to not have her maker with her anymore, but that didn’t mean cor wasn’t the making the best of the life she had. she didn’t like to linger on the past.
❝ do you like swimmin’? ‘cause maybe you won’t find it fun if you don’t. ❞ corrie liked swimming, she always had. it was weird to her when people didn’t enjoy it. at the question, she hums, bobs her head side to side. ❝ well, i mean, it was like anywhere. it had it’s good days and it had it’s bad. i loved living there, i loved the beach, the sun. i do miss it sometimes. suppose it’s one of the worst places to be a vampire, with all the sun an’ all. shame, i’d like to go back someday. ❞
