The truth is, Diavolo doesn’t get nightmares.

No, he dreams of another world. One where his mother is still breathing, and his father greets him with a smile. Their arms are warm. Comforting. Like the sun the Devildom has always lacked, or a rather nice cocoon. There’s something about their hugs that makes him believe in himself, and that all of his dreams are possible.

They coo praise into his ear.

They mention they are proud.

Diavolo tries to push past how distorted their voices are, as his brain forces them to say things he’s never heard.

“I love you.”

Is their pronunciation right?

Should his mothers voice be lower?

No, accuracy distorts the picture. It causes the loneliness to set in quicker.

He knows it’s a dream.

It’s obvious.

But every night, he selfishly doesn’t want to wake.

Please. He begs into the open air, clinging to his parents clothes. Let me pretend a moment longer.

Diavolo doesn’t get nightmares. But maybe, he thinks after waking up with tears in his eyes yet again, maybe that would be preferable.

What I’d like to see in OM Nightbringer (A Wishlist):

Satan’s first day of existence (and the first time he and Diavolo actually met).

Solomon forming a pact with Barbatos, and the reason he called upon him in the first place. (What tragedy did Solomon go through? What time did he wish to change?)

Diavolo’s world (and his demeanor in general) starting off as cold, but warming up over the course of the game as he slowly befriends the demon bros. (And they get to know each other).

The Demon King in general, and whether or not he was a good father to Diavolo. (How much love and affection did Diavolo receive as a child? Does his father blame him for his mother’s death?)

Flashbacks of Lucifer and Michael, before the fall. What was their relationship like before everything fell apart? How does Lucifer handle that loss, along with all of the other losses he’s recovering from?

Lucifer and Satan navigating each other after Satan is born. The struggle Lucifer feels between feeling guilty and disgusted over what his wrath had caused them to lose, and welcoming Satan in as a member of his family. The anger Satan feels at how much he struggles to belong and make Lucifer proud, only to have Lucifer not look him in the eye. A perpetual tragedy where the solution doesn’t exist, until a certain human enters their lives many years later.

A flashback of Simeon during the rebellion. What were his true feelings about how the Celestial Realm was run? Did he ever feel inclined to join Lucifer? How much of it does he regret?
