Ways to support Ukraine đșđŠ
More than 500,000 people have already left Ukraine due to the invasion by the Russian Federation. The European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management estimates that roughly 18 million Ukrainians will be affected by the conflict in humanitarian terms, with 7 million internally displaced and 4 million seeking refuge elsewhere. To help those still in Ukraine, as well as Ukrainian refugees, weâve compiled this list of resources.
HelpUkraineWin.org has a collection of vetted and trusted resources, charities, and organizations to help Ukraine.
Some additional ways to donate:
Vostok SOS provides immediate evacuation support.
Malteser International provides essentials for Ukrainian refugees.
Ukraine Crisis Media Center provides fundraising links and a list of tips for sharing information.
Misinformation spreads fast on social media. It is more important than ever to share accurate, verifiable news and information. Here are some resources to learn how to identify misinformation:
This video from the nonprofit WITNESS shares tips for identifying authentic sources (available in English, Spanish, Ukranian, Russian, and Arabic).

THROUGH A RAPISTâS EYESâ (PLS TAKE TIME TO READ THIS. It may save a life, It may save your life.)
An Article from Neena Susan Thomas
âThrough a rapistâs eyes. A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewâŠed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:
1] The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun! , braid, or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.
2] The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women whoâs clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing.
3] They also look for women using their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.
4] The number one place women are abducted from / attacked at is grocery store parking lots.
5] Number two is office parking lots/garages.
6] Number three is public restrooms.
7] The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they donât have to worry about getting caught.
8] If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isnât worth it because it will be time-consuming.
9] These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas,or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands.
10] Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys youâre not worth it.
POINTS THAT WE SHOULD REMEMBER:
1] If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk: canât believe it is so cold out here, weâre in for a bad winter. Now that youâve seen their faces and could identify them in a line- up, you lose appeal as a target.
2] If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said theyâd leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.
3] If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes,) yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.
4] If someone grabs you, you canât beat them with strength but you can do it by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh â HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it really hurts.
5] After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guyâs parts it is extremely painful. You might think that youâll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause him a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and heâs out of there.
6] When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.
7] Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, donât dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel little silly at the time, but youâd feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.
FINALLY, PLEASE REMEMBER THESE AS WELL âŠ.
1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it.
2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans : if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from youâŠ. chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver wonât see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.
4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DONâT DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU CLOSE the DOORS , LEAVE.
5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:
a. Be aware: look around your car as someone may be hiding at the passenger side , peek into your car, inside the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. ( DO THIS TOO BEFORE RIDING A TAXI CAB) .
b. If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.
c. Look at the car parked on the driverâs side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)
6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).
7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!
8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked âfor helpâ into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.
Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and itâs better safe than sorry.

North American Connection (Loose End #23)
The Canadian is leaving.
He is leaving, and he is coming back, but not before a long while, and Alfred is feeling uncharacteristically devastated. âOh, and Matt?â
The sound of footsteps halt for a moment, Canada taking the time to look at his neighbour in the eyes and hear what he has to say despite the door that he is now only an armâs reach away from.
âSometimes... Sometimes, no, a lot of the time, I canât help but think youâre the best part of North America. I think to myself how lucky I am to be the only nation on this entire planet that you share a border with. Not Germany, not England, not South Korea. Or Cuba, or The Netherlands, or Australia. Itâs just the two of us, sharing the longest undefended border in the entire world. Iâm so utterly thankful to be by your side day in and day out, and I can only hope you feel the same, Mattie.â
Matthew seems to let the words sink in, eyebrows nevertheless a little furrowed. âWhat brought this on?â
Oh Matt, silly Matt, the American thought fondly. The one time he let his heart do the talking, and Canada was suspecting foul play.
ââM not trying to garner any favors or anything, if thatâs what youâre thinking. Truth is Iâve always felt this way. Just thought Iâd say something for once.â
Matthew seems to calm at this, all previous traces of doubt now gone from his expression. âIn that case, thank you.â
With a corner smile and a twist of the doorknob, he is gone.

âTetsu?â
âYes, love of my life?â
Stunned into speechlessness, Bokuto soon found himself frowning.
They had been dating on and off for months, Kuroo claiming they were both too young and carefree to fully commit. To say he bore resentment for having his feelings decided for him was one way of wording it. But this? This was new.
âYour what?â He felt his heart clenching from within his chest, daring to hope. Because organs had this strange way of knowing when they were being directly spoken to.
Kuroo, on the other hand, merely answered with a teasing smile, amber eyes nevertheless betraying his playful façade as raw emotion and a hint of fear shone through.
It was by staring into these pretty cat-like eyes that Bokuto recognized this moment for what it was: a display of vulnerability. This was a side the perpetually-scheming Nekoma captain let hardly anyone witness, let alone Bokuto. But that was what being partners was all about, yeah? The good and the bad? Love brought out oneâs strengths just as it did oneâs weaknesses.
âI guess I just got tired of pretending.â Kuroo seemed pensive, eyes growing unfocused. âAll this time, I was scared of what would happen if I let my guard down, if I let you in. I felt like itâd drive you away if I clued you in on just how needy I am.â
âTetsu? What brought this on?â By now, Bokutoâs palms were tenderly stilling Kurooâs own shaking ones.
âIâm scared of losing you. Iâve been pushing you away like an idiot because I was trying not to get too attached, because getting attached means itâll hurt more should it all go wrong. Thing is, what I failed to acknowledge is that Iâm already in deep, so I might as well go all in and do what Iâve desperately been wanting to do this whole entire time. Because the truth is, I always want to be trapped in your orbit, and I constantly crave your touch because you give the best hugs and the best kisses and Iâm always left wanting more. Iâm just so enamoured by you to the point I just canât deal at times. Iâm sorry for not being entirely truthful about my feelings up until this point.â
Unable to hide his relief, a chuckle slipped through Bokutoâs lips, warm palms quickly squeezing Kurooâs as a placating gesture. âYâknow something, Tetsu? I love you. I really, truly do. And though I may not always be there for you as Bokuto Koutarou, Fukurodaniâs captain, Iâll always have your back as Bokuto Koutarou, your best bro and boyfriend. Or âlove of your lifeâ, if thatâs what you prefer. No judgement,â he winked. âI have a whole list of nicknames Iâve been dying to use, myself.â

âI do,â he insists. And the desperation tears another hole right through Tooru. âPlease just let me have this. Have you. If you just promise me one thing. You have to be there when I wake up. Just let me wake up next to you and then Iâll let you go again. I wonât ask you to stay. I promise.â
Tooru sniffles, but he somehow finds the strength to form a smile. Itâs not fake, not completely, but he knows Hajime can still probably see everything heâs hiding behind it. âIt is tradition.â
ââââ
This is a tale of kisses and holiday traditions, of falling in love and falling apart. Being strong enough to walk away, but brave enough to come back together.
Loosely inspired by Taylor Swiftâs ââtis the damn season.â

North American Connection (Loose End #22)
âRemember Honeymoon Bridge?â
Matthew froze, meeting his neighbourâs eyes.
Seemingly undeterred, America kept speaking, âRemember how much I loved the name when it was first announced? I used to imagine that, every once in a while, a Canadian and an American would meet on that bridge. Theyâd get to the very middle of if, and kiss. Just like how our lands have been kissing at our shared border since the beginning.â
His eyes grew glassy, remembering a time that felt like yesterday to an immortal like him. âThen, of course, it fell down one winter and was replaced by the Rainbow bridge, but... I still think about it sometimes. Honeymoon bridge... it was the perfect name, considering how desperate I was to put a ring on your finger and get hitched. Maybe even elope, if Arthur or Francis felt like they had a say.â He tilted his head, blue eyes gazing at Matthew thoughtfully. âIâd marry you in a heartbeat, should you ever change your mind, yâknow.â
With a pained grimace, the Canadian parted his lips to speak until Alfred raised his hands in a placating gesture.
âItâs fine. I know. Just some food for thought.â He looked to the floor, one hand now slicking his hair back. âJust making sure you know the offerâs still on the table, as it forever will be.â
Because Matthew, contrary to what the Canadian probably thought, was who Alfred had always envisioned to be standing there, waiting for him from halfway across Honeymoon bridge.
Note: Honeymoon/Rainbow Bridge is a border crossing between Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada to the US. I like the name âRainbowâ, but when I found out about the Honeymoon Bridge, my CanAme-loving heart absolutely melted đšđŠâ„ïžđșđž
