My first time participating in the Character Design Challenge! I’m sad I didn’t know about the mermaid challenge until it was too late, but it’s okay, I love Sailor Moon!

Princess Serenity and Luna always reminded me of the Chinese Moon Fairy, Chang E, so I kept that in mind as I designed. I tried to evoke her iconic hair style, but also inspired by more traditional Chinese hairstyles. Not too hard at all! I also put the planetary symbols of her main five sailor scouts on the “brocade” since I wanted to tie their relationship in somehow!

Anyone know what specific episodes of the 1992 Sailor Moon anime these screenshots are from?

It's really strange to me that the folks who take umbridge with Usagi and Mamoru's age gap in the anime don't also take umbridge with you know...the entire premise of the Sailor Moon franchise.

Like seriously, from a real world POV I not okay with a 14 year old dating an 18 year old.

But you know what I am even less okay with?

Children aged 8 (in Chibi-Usa's case) to 17 (in Haruka and Michiru's case) acting as vigilantes wherein they risk serious physical and mental harm every week fighting inhuman entities in populated civilian areas.

So guys either:

a) Call out literally every single iteration of this franchise (anime, manga, live action, musicals, video games) from the ground up

or

b) Suspend your disbelief about the fake ink people dating each other whilst clearly not having sex.

In the spirit of encouraging people to comment on fanfics while also making it easier to do so, I feel obliged to share a browser extension for ao3 that has quite literally revolutionized the comment game for me.

I present to you: the floating ao3 comment box!

From what I've seen, a big problem for many people is that once you reach the comments at the bottom of a fic, your memory of it miraculously disappears. Anything you wanted to say is stuck ten paragraphs ago, and you barely remember what you thought while reading. This fixes that!

I'll give a little explanation on the features and how it works, but if you want to skip all that, here's the link.

The extension is visible as a small blue box in the upper left corner.

(Side note: The green colouring is not from the extension, that's me.)

If you click on it, you open a comment box window at the bottom of your screen but not at the bottom of the fic. I opened my own fic for demonstrative purposes.

The website also gives explanations on how exactly it functions, but I'll summarize regardless.

insert selection -> if you highlight a sentence in the fic it will be added in italics to the comment box

add to comment box -> once you're done writing your comment, you click this button and the entire thing will automatically copied to the ao3 comment box

delete -> self explanatory

on mulitchapter fics, you will be given the option to either add the comment to just the current chapter or the entire fic

The best part? You can simply close the window the same way you opened it and your progress will automatically be saved. So you can open it, comment on a paragraph, and then close it and keep reading without having the box in your face.

Comments are what keep writers going, and as both a writer and a reader, I think it's such an easy way of showing support and enthusiasm.

In defence of 90s Mamo, he is objectively a Senshi there too but not overall as powerful. Overall is the key word because until the end of the DK arc MangaMamo has 0 magical powers,(aside from boosting Usagi's which neither were aware of). 90s Mamo had magic off the bat, the difference is he stayed at that same power level (exempting when he was brainwashed ofc). Up until MangaMamo unlocked Tuxedo La Smoking Bomber 90s Mamo had better offensive powers but after that MangaMamo surpassed him.

That being said, whilst weaker, 90s Mamo abilities are arguably more versatile. He can usually teleport to wherever Usagi needs him to be and his Rose's can be used to free his allies and make precision strikes. His cane is also useful for this and doubles as a sword (plus when he transforms into Prince Endymion he was an actual sword and armour). By contrast, whilst Tuxedo La Smoking Bomber packs a bigger payload it is a blunt destructive instrument. Which means he can fight villains more directly for sure, but it's not as useful (or at least riskier) if Usagi or whoever's is pinned and needs to be freed Asap.

Tbh, I think their different abilities speak to the different narrative goals of the manga vs the anime. Similarly, 90s Mamo is taken less seriously, but over all so is every character. I mean Esmeraude and the Spectre Sisters are by no means comedic in the manga either. Rei and Makoto have gag moments but not as many as the anime

When you think about it, Mamoru is kinda GOATed? In the manga, he got psychometry, healing, prophetic dreams, ability to see any location on earth if he touches the ground, energy blasts... Sir?? 😳🕶🤏

It's always funny when you talk to people who only ever saw the 90s anime and tell them about how powerful Mamoru is in the manga, lol. In the manga he's basically a Senshi himself with all the awesome powers he has (making his Naoko's statement that he's the de-facto Sailor Earth make total sense) whereas in the 90s anime he just.... throws roses and makes corny speeches, lol.

The more debatable questions imo are

A) how much time elapsed between exiting the Cauldron and the next immediate scene with Usagi and Mamoru in bed together?

B) how much time elapsed between the prior scene (where Mamo says they should get married) and their wedding

How much time do you think passed after Sailor Moon defeated Chaos in the Galaxy Cauldron and before her and Mamoru's wedding?

I think fans have established a rough timeline, although of course it could be inaccurate. Usagi is 16 when she defeats Chaos, and she ascends to the throne as Neo-Queen Serenity when she's 22. This is also the same year she gave birth to Chibiusa.

In the last pages of the manga, before Usagi and Mamoru's wedding, we see what appears to be Crystal Tokyo being built. At their wedding, Usagi tells Mamoru that she's pregnant with Chibiusa. So going by the established timeline, she could be either 21 or 22 here. In other words, there is a timeskip of 5-6 years after the final battle.

That being said, some fans argue that the timeline is different because of all the time shenanigans that go on during the series. I personally think this timeline is accurate, tho.

TL;DR: I think 5-6 years passed.
