an open letter;

hi guys. this is my first post in a while and probably my last post for a while at the very least. i dropped off the face of tumblr around a month and a half ago because uni started, but i’m gonna be honest - i’m kinda glad i did. i didn’t realise how much time i was here on this app, so much so i literally opened it the moment i woke up, and it was the last thing i closed before i went to bed. i am so grateful for all the people i was able to meet here, all the conversations i was able to have. but i’m afraid this disappearance may become one that is gonna last much longer. the amount of time i used to spend on here has affected me mentally more than i realised - every once in a while nowadays when i open the app, i feel a sense of dread because i feel guilty for not posting, so i close it and pretend tumblr never existed. but i felt like i wanted to give an explanation. so here it is: i may not come back to tumblr ever again, i may come back in a few days. but right now, i don’t feel like being here is the best thing for me, so i’m sorry to say that i will in fact be leaving indefinitely. thank you all for reading, interacting, and being a friend.

"What the fuck is wrong with you?"

Sirius was leant against his motorcycle, ashes falling from his cigarette as it dangled precariously from his fingers. The man's face was illuminated by the dim light in the parking lot, and what permeated through the grimy windows of the diner you were situated outside of.

"Let me take you home."

The man flicked the cigarette from his fingers, crushing it under his steel toe boots, his eyes flickering to the skies for a moment.

"No, I'm not going anywhere with you, Black, until you explain what the fuck that was."

Sirius sucked on his canine for a brief second, his tongue running over the pearly whites as he rolled his eyes, exasperated.

"Let's go, Y/N. The sky's getting dark, looks like it's gonna rain."

His hand encircled your wrist, but you were quicker, pulling away the instant his skin made contact with yours.

"Are you deaf? I said I'm not going with you."

An exhale left Sirius's mouth as a drizzle fell from the skies, his hands shoved into the back pocket of his jeans, grey eyes meeting yours.

"What do you want me to say, Y/N?"

"I want you to tell me why you told Lucius to fuck off and not come on my date with him!"

You threw your phone at the man, who barely even paid a lick of attention to the texts open on it, tucking it into his pocket.

"Is this some sort of sick joke to you? Drop me off and just sit around in the carpark and watch me be disappointed by his absence?!"

With every word, your voice got louder and louder, and the rain accompanied you – growing heavier with each second.

Soon you found yourself soaked, Sirius's hair matted down onto his head as you refused to budge, his eye twitching as you glared at him.

"What the fuck do you want me to say, Y/N? Why would you want to go on a date with that dickhead? I think the better question to ask is what's wrong with you."

Letting out a frustrated scream, you tried to turn away and leave, but this time Sirius was faster, his grip around your wrist stopping you from leaving.

"Do you actually like him?"

You whipped around, water droplets flying from your clothes as you did so, your hands coming to pull at Sirius's leather jacket.

"Are you actually my best friend? What kind of best friend would do this."

Sirius barked out a sarcastic laugh, his hands thrown up into the air in exasperation as he yelled a 'fuck' up into the cloudy skies.

"The kind of best friend that's in love with you, Y/N! But clearly, you're too fucking thick to see it!"

Your hands slipped from the man's jacket, mouth falling open as cold droplets of rain trickled into your mouth.

"By the way, Malfoy told someone that all he wanted was a quick fuck. That's why I told him not to come. But, have fun with that."

"Can you pass me the vanilla extract?"

Nodding absentmindedly, you grabbed a bottle to pass to James, half focusing on the double boiler in front of you.

"I... Y/N."

You turned around to face James, brows furrowed as you looked at him.

"What?"

James shook the bottle in your face.

"This is salt, Y/N. I asked for vanilla."

Placing the bottle down on the counter, James leaned over the granite to grab the bottle of extract, turning back to pour a spoonful into a mixing bowl.

"What's wrong? You've been acting off all day."

You stirred the butter, trying to melt the dairy for the pancake batter.

"Nothing. I'm just thinking."

Making a well in the flour, James hummed, pouring the wet ingredients into the bowl as you passed him the bowl of butter.

"Are you sure?"

Butter was thrown into the pan as the fire was turned up, the man mixing the batter as he waited for the pan to heat up.

"Um..."

The batter sizzled as he poured it into a pan, your bottom lip trapped between your teeth as you nibbled on it.

"I..."

The man shimmied the spatula underneath the pancake, flipping it unsuccessfully as he swore silently.

"Spit it out, Y/N-"

"I'm bisexual!"

James turned to you, pan and spatula in hand as you watched him silently, worried that something you dreaded might come out of your best friend's mouth.

"I'm so proud of you, Y/N, and so happy that you told me."

A smile bloomed on your face as he said that, but it was soon replaced by an exasperated sigh.

"But can you get me a fucking plate, this pancake is going to burn in two seconds."

"Alright, James, relax! Why didn't you get it earlier yourself?"

"Why are all your plates dirty?!"

The front door clicked open as you pushed on the lacquered wood, the ancient hinges creaking as your home was slowly revealed to you.

Inaudible conversation could be heard from somewhere inside, but that was the usual.

What caught your attention was the scent.

A potent scent of tomato, possibly a sauce? Bolognese, maybe. Dancing alongside it was the buttery rich smell of something grilling in the oven, a steak, that made your stomach grumble.

Each step towards the kitchen had you salivating, imagining what Sirius had been up to while you were at work.

The man had told you that he'd be having James and Remus over during the day, the three of them not having to work today. And as per usual, you expected to come back to the three Marauders lazing on your couch or playing with the video games that Sirius had found one day while out and about in London.

What you didn't expect was to come into your kitchen– with an emphasis on the 'your', because none of them ever came into the kitchen– and see all three of them bustling around the small space, whipping up what seemed to be a feast fit to serve a hundred.

Pasta was boiling on the stove, alongside a thick bolognese, both stirring on their own with charmed wooden spoons. James was pouring random bottles of alcohol into a jug, seeming to be whipping up some sort of a cocktail.

Remus was chopping up some vegetables, preparing a salad as Sirius knelt down to look into the oven, looking over at the doorway as he noticed the sound of your footsteps.

"Y/N! You're home early!"

Unable to keep from smiling, your arms crossed over your chest as the man walked over towards you.

"This, um, this was meant to be a surprise."

Your arms wrapped around Sirius's neck, tilting your head at him.

"You decided to cook?"

Sirius's hands wrapped around your waist like yours did his neck, smiling back at you.

"Well, you've been working overtime so much... The lads and I wanted to do something nice."

"Aw-"

"Pads! Your steak!"

"Oh fuck."

Cheers for the Gryffindor seeker sounded around the room as the majority of Hogwarts crowded around the Common Room, drinking and bantering over the scarlet and gold house's victory over the Slytherins.

You were incredibly proud of Harry, his quidditch prowess something that he was always humble about, but there was no doubt that he was amazing at it.

You were stood by Hermione and Ron, chatting as the three of you watched Harry be congratulated by one person or the other, laughing awkwardly at everyone's jokes and wriggling around on the dance floor.

In the midst of your conversation, Hermione nudged you gently, inclining her head towards the bustling dance floor.

"What?"

A dark brow was raised at you as you turned to face the crowded floor, seeing a tan girl with her body excessively close to your boyfriend, the nature of their conversation definitely straying from innocence.

Romilda Vane, and her hands were dancing a little too close to Harry's arms for your liking.

Pushing through the crowds without a word to Hermione or Ron, you made your way towards the Gryffindor captain, wrapping your hand around his bicep.

"Oh, hey Y/N-"

Your lips pressed against the seeker's, Harry's hands automatically reaching over to hold the nape of your neck as he kissed you back, tasting of butterbeer and cake.

An exasperated exhale was heard to the side as Romilda stomped off, your lips pulling away from your boyfriend's with a slight sound.

"What a way to congratulate me, huh?"

You raised a brow at the boy, lips quirking at Harry's deepened blush.

"You should do it more often."

Those words struck fear and fury into your heart.

Maybe you were just reading into things. But lately, it seemed like you saw them go everywhere together.

In the libraries, going to and from classes, sitting together in the Great Hall.

It wasn't like it hadn't happened before, in fact, it had been happening for the past few years.

Ron, Hermione and Harry were together all the time, they were the Golden Trio. But you were meant to be their friend as well.

Turning around to see who had called your name, the books in your hand slipping from your grasp as you did so.

You smiled at the reddening boy, thanking him quietly as he took the bulk of your reading material into his grasp.

The seeker couldn't resist the infection of your smile, his heart accelerating as the two of you made your way away from the library and back towards your Common Room.

"How were you struggling with these books? There's only like four here."

You huffed at the teen, rolling your eyes at him as you adjusted the strap of your bookbag upon your shoulder.

"Sorry I'm not strong like you, Mr Quidditch Star. Some people have smaller hands and less strength, alright?"

A hearty laugh escaped the Gryffindor as he stopped in his stride, noticing that you had stopped your trek towards the Common Room, hands crossed as he stared down at you.

"What's wrong now?"

You tilted your head at the boy, frowning.

"How big are your hands then, Mr Seeker."

James cracked a smile, one that felt infectious as you suppressed the desire to smile back at him.

"Wanna compare and find out?"

A brow was raised as you feigned contemplation, lips quirking to a side as James was consumed with the thoughts of your lips on his.

"Mm, no. You just want an excuse to hold my hand, Potter."

Your legs straddled Sirius's waist, but not a moment later, his hips bucked and you were flipped over. The man hovered above you as he stretched your arms above your head, pinning them down with ease.

Your complaints were muffled by Sirius's lips pressing against yours, a chuckle slipping from his lips as you humphed at your boyfriend's antics.
