Ladner Harbour Park, Delta
Ladner Harbour Park, and more specifically the playground in the park, would be on any shortlist of the most recognizable SPN locations in the series.
The park is located across the Fraser River from the village of Ladner, which was itself used extensively for filming over the years.
Tumblr media
Like several of the recent locations in the repeat locations series, the park's first appearance was in 1x03 Dead in the Water, where the boys run into Andrea and Lucas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The park then took a nine year vacation and didn't appear again until 9x23 Do You Believe in Miracles? when it became the first playground entrance to Heaven.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you go to the park hoping to enter Heaven via this sandbox, you're likely to be disappointed as the sandbox was a set piece added by production.
Tumblr media
The playground is particularly notable for being one of the few locations that appeared multiple times on the show as the same location. The boys don't retrace their steps much but Cas did return to the entrance to Heaven five more times. First in 10x02 Reichenbach.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then again in 10x10 The Hunter Games. Note that except for the sandbox, the playground equipment is part of the park, making this an excellent spot for reenactment pictures/video.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back again in 10x17 Inside Man. (Cas' leap here is a particularly good one for reenactment.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We take a little break for Season 11, and when we return the park is doing double duty in 12x15 Somewhere Between Heaven and Earth and we get to see of some of the park beyond the playground. A section not far from the playground was home to the campsite where the unfortunate boyfriend is attacked by a hellhound.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This picnic shelter where the boys meet up with the cops is between the playground and the spot used for the campsite.
Tumblr media
And it's the same spot seen near the end after the hellhound is dealt with.
Tumblr media
Turn around and you'll see a familiar sign at the entrance to one of the trails - the actual sign says Swenson Walk but the sign posts are the same.
Tumblr media
Down that path where Crowley is headed you'll find the trail where Dean and Crowley went hellhound hunting.
Tumblr media
And of course, back at the playground, Cas is headed to Heaven once again.
Tumblr media
The final appearance of the park was in 12x19 The Future. But wait, you say, the playground entrance to Heaven appears in Season 13 and 14 too. You would be right, but they used Willard Park in Burnaby for those seasons (reportedly the production was not welcome back to this park after this episode).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you are visiting the park now, there is a little spring horse right in the spot where the sandbox was placed so be careful not to land on it when making your journey to Heaven. The last time I was there I also saw a beautiful owl so potential for good bird watching in addition to location hunting.
While you are out at the park, be sure to check out the nearby Ladner Slough Bridge on McNeely's Way, which featured in a previous post on repeat locations. And the Ladner Harbour Authority Pier which was also used in 10x02 - it's just past the entrance to the park or accessible from the park trails.
Coming up next in repeat locations is the first of the driving footage you're going to see on the repeat locations list, on Dollarton Highway in North Vancouver.

Harbourside Plaza, Ladner, Delta
Harbourside Plaza is another repeat location that I considered not including in this series because the two times it appears are two separate parts of the plaza, but I decided it counts anyway.
Just across the street from the Delta Barber Shop that featured in the last post, is the Harbourside Plaza in the village of Ladner.
Tumblr media
It first appears in Supernatural immediately after the Delta Barber Shop in 1x03 Dead in the Water as the destination Andrea is leading the boys to, the Lakefront Motel.
Tumblr media
You can see it again at the end of the episode when the boys are saying goodbye to Andrea and Lucas.
Tumblr media
There is a "blink and you'll miss it" appearance of the plaza in 2x05 Simon Said, there the boys are across the street looking at Andy's van and you can briefly see the plaza in the background.
Tumblr media
Then fast forward several seasons to 7x06 Slash Fiction and the boys are getting arrested at the other end of the plaza parking lot from the spot used in 1x03.
Tumblr media
Aside from some fresh paint, the plaza remains largely unchanged from what you see on screen and is just one of the many locations you can visit in the village of Ladner.
Next up, one of the more iconic repeat locations from the show, Ladner Harbour Park, where you will likely recognize the playground. :-)

Delta Barber Shop, Ladner, Delta
I spent a good amount of time thinking about whether I should single out the Delta Barber Shop as a repeat location or just lump all of the many locations in this single block of Delta St in Ladner into one post. But ultimately, I decided to give it it's own post, because many of the other locations on the block are only on screen in one episode despite being next door to a location in another.
What was the Delta Barber Shop at 4868 Delta St at the time of filming went through a couple of changes in ownership in the later years, but remained a barber shop/salon. The last couple of times I visited Ladner the building was empty and clearly under construction. And I am sorry to report that as of the most recent Street View footage from May of 2023, the building has been torn down to the studs and new construction is underway, so sadly, the location is no more.
Tumblr media
The barber shop first appeared in the background of 1x03 Dead in the Water, when Andrea is walking the boys to the local hotel.
Tumblr media
It then reappeared in 4x03 In the Beginning, where Dean is found asleep on a bench in front of "Bert's Barber Shop" in the '70s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It sort of appears again in the same episode as the left side wall in this alley fight scene is also the barber shop. With the new construction though, it looks like this alley has been all but eliminated.
Tumblr media
I highly recommend a visit to the village of Ladner to any SPN location hunters, even if you can no longer see the barber shop, as there are a TON of locations in a very small walkable distance. son fit
Speaking of which, one of them is the next up in the repeat locations series, Harbourside Plaza.

Terminal City Iron Works, Vancouver
Terminal City Iron Works is a bit unusual when it comes to repeat locations as it was almost more of a back lot than a location. Once upon a time, it was actually an iron works foundry that manufactured fire hydrants and man hole covers.
When it closed down in the late 90s, film productions started to take advantage of the space. Most notably, Dark Angel (yes, the one that Jensen was in!) came in and developed it extensively into its own Terminal City (if you’ve watched the series, you’ll know they used the name in the show). That production, which incidentally had the same production designer as Supernatural, build numerous facades in the space that made the location almost as much film set as it was a foundry. Those facades remained when Dark Angel ended and made the space desirable as a location that productions could use almost like a back lot for industrial settings. There were large warehouse and factory type spaces, a tunnel that Dark Angel had turned into a sewer set, an office space that played many a police station. And the location was host to literally hundreds of television series and movies. Anything that shot in Vancouver between 2002 and 2014 probably filmed at Terminal City at one time or another.
Sadly, in 2015 the site was sold and all the sets demolished. The land where it once sat is now home to a modern (and boring) office park.
Tumblr media
I want to preface the SPN specific portion of this post by noting that the episodes I am about to list are the ones that I know of that shot at Terminal City. It is HIGHLY likely that there were even more that filmed there that I’m just not aware of and/or didn’t pick up on because I don't tend to hunt for interiors that are obviously not public.
SPN’s first Terminal City visit was right out of the gate in 1x03 Dead in the Water. That office space I mentioned that played many a police station, was used for, you guessed it, the police station where the boys first meet the sheriff and Andrea and Lucas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Production was back again shortly after for all the sewer scenes in 1x06 Skin, using that tunnel that Dark Angel had made into a sewer set.
Tumblr media
In 1x15 The Benders, Terminal City does double duty, first as the site of the first kidnapping (the Tavern sign in the second shot is a notable feature of the Terminal City set).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then both the exterior and interior of that office space are back as yet another police station where Dean meets Kathleen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
John ends up back in the sewer in 1x21 Salvation while trying to thwart Meg and her demon brother.
Tumblr media
In 2x17 Heart, the streets of Terminal City are the site of a werewolf attack.
Tumblr media
2x20 What Is and What Should Never Be sees Dean getting trapped by a djinn in one of the Terminal City warehouses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Terminal City again does double duty in 3x07 Fresh Blood, first as the location where the boys find Lucy the vampire.
Tumblr media
And then later both the exterior and interior of the Terminal City buildings are used for the warehouse where the boys track down vampire Gordon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 5x13 The Song Remains the Same, the interiors are used as the warehouse where Cas and Anna meet and the garage where Anna attacks John and Mary.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 6x21 Let It Bleed Dean rescues Ben and Lisa from one of the Terminal City warehouses.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8x12 As Time Goes By uses Terminal City for the final confrontation with Abbadon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Terminal City is apparently the happening place for djinn to hang out, because they are back in 8x20 Pac-Man Fever, capturing Charlie.
Tumblr media
The last known appearance of Terminal City was in 9x20 Bloodlines, where the gang sneaks in to rescue Violet. (Humorously, at least to me, the exterior of this location is in Chicago, thousands of miles away).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unless there was a Season 10 appearance I missed, that most likely is the end of Terminal City’s journey on Supernatural as it was torn down between S10 and S11. Somewhere out there, some lucky fans probably have some great photos of this set because it was one of the stops on a Russ Bus tour in 2009.
Next up in the repeat locations series, the Delta Barber Shop in Ladner!

I Made a Thing!
After the frustration and scare with the busted links the other day when Tumblr decided to make changes to custom domains without notice, I embarked on a new project.
Introducing a new home for Sam and Dean Were Here...
https://samanddeanwerehere.com
I still have a lot of work to do bringing my photos into the site (right now the photo links direct back to posts here), but all the maps are there and links to all the photo posts. And given the uncertainty of social platforms lately, I feel better about having my work in a site I have control over.
I have no intention to abandon this Tumblr and will continue to do my series on repeat locations here. All my unidentified location tracking is also staying here for now too. And any new finds will be here by default since the maps live in Google.
I also promise to share photos here from my upcoming trip to visit Pilot locations in California in a couple weeks (yay!). But I have a feeling that the website is probably easier to navigate if anyone is trying to find specific locations or posts.
I also made a lot of progress this weekend getting screenshots into the Master Locations Map. I just have to work through Burnaby and New Westminster now (which is daunting as there are SO many locations in that small area) but all of the rest of the cities covered in the map should now be done.
Anyway, I hope any fellow location enthusiasts have fun perusing the site and maybe give it a bookmark for future reference. Cheers!

Links Under Construction
In case anyone tries to click through the links to photos on my map posts... yes, I know some of them aren’t working.
Apparently Tumblr has rolled out Tumblr Domains and with that change if you turn off your existing custom domain on Tumblr (which I do all the time to be able to edit things from my Archive page) you now can’t re-enable it. *Insert expletives here* You’d think there would be a warning about that when you do it, right? Hahahahaha....no.
So... I now have to go through all my map posts and redo the photo links so they don’t include my custom domain, which is going to take a while. Good news is that I already fixed the Master Posts so if you are wanting to see/find particular pictures, you can use those.
This was also apparently the impetus I needed to start the work of making my own website for this content because Tumblr just can’t be trusted to house it forever. So look for that to launch in a rudimentary state in the next few days.

McNeelys Way, Delta
McNeelys Way, and its Harbourview Bridge, lead to a much more notable repeat location that we’ll get to soon, but the road itself turned up multiple times over the years.
Tumblr media
The the Harbourview Bridge and the corner of McNeelys Way leading to it first appeared in 1x03 Dead in the Water.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then it’s a long time before we see the road again, not until Cas finds Claire walking along McNeelys Way at the end of 10x10 The Hunter Games.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But this must be a favorite meet up spot for Cas because he’s back there again meeting up with Sam a few episodes later in 11x17 Inside Man.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then finally both the bridge...
Tumblr media
And McNeelys Way appear in 12x15 Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell as the boys are dealing with the case of the missing hellhound.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’re out on a greatest hits SPN locations tour you’re probably going to hit this stretch of road by default while on your way to the playground in Ladner Harbour Park so don’t forget to pull over for some pictures!
Next in this series is going to be a look at Terminal City, one of two backlot sets that saw recurring use on SPN.

Dollarton Highway, North Vancouver
There’s a little stretch of Dollarton Highway in North Vancouver that appears in several pieces of driving footage in season one. Like a lot of driving footage, all the shots were probably filmed at the same time and then used periodically in later episodes.
Tumblr media
The first appearance is in 1x02 Wendigo, making it very likely that this was the first driving footage shot in Vancouver. The spot is right outside the former Accurate Iron Works which was later used as a location itself, but unfortunately has long since been torn down.
Tumblr media
A slightly different shot appears in 1x03 Dead in the Water, just a few yards down the road, with the Impala driving the other direction.
Tumblr media
In 1x05 Bloody Mary we see both the same shot used in Wendigo, as well as a new one pointed further down the road. It took me quite a while to figure out this was the same spot because the depth of field on this shot is deceptive. It looks like a short section of road, but in fact the signs in the distance are quite a  long way from the foreground.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then in both 1x07 Hook Man and 1x18 Something Wicked, that same footage from Bloody Mary turns up again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These driving shots are notable in that they only appeared in the first season, while a lot of others show up over and over throughout the show. But Something Wicked is the last time this footage makes an appearance.
Next in the series, McNeelys Way in Delta.
