im prolly going to sound dumb for a minute so I apologize in advance. In dec, I read things about how the word "guk" was offensive and that ppl shouldn't call Jungkook that. But since I saw those, it seems that it's all I see ppl calling him? "Jeonguk", "gguk", etc. I thought maybe they were spelling how his name is pronounced? But I'm not sure at this point. I've seen it for a few months. Can u explain it to me maybe? Idek who to ask abt it so I'm sorry to pester you w/ this. :(( 💜

you don’t sound dumb! “guk” or “gook” is an offensive slur towards east/southeast asians, especially koreans. you can read about it here. not only that, but i know that the majority of the fandom doesn’t know about this, and they just think they’re spelling it correctly since that’s how it’s “pronounced” but like…my thing is, you should spell it how he spells it himself. he spells it as jungkook. bighit spells it as jungkook. and like i’ve said before, the english spelling of korean names doesn’t depend wholly on pronunciation. if that were the case then you could technically spell my name as jeesoo or jisu or jeesu but i wouldn’t be so thrilled about that tbh. so like if you’re gonna give him a nickname like that just call him kook lol. hope it makes sense
