This has been on my mind for long but I’m gonna do this - please reblog this if you’re comfortable with pre-establishing relationships. I do not mean “met at the grocery store two weeks ago” or “have a common friend”, but rather stuff like “have been best friends since kindergrden”, “go for a beer every friday”, “friends with benefits”, “dated in highschool”, “hate each other’s guts because -insert reason-”  etc. Something meaningful (but not necessarily shippy) and I mean with muns/characters you have not interacted with, because I cannot believe I am the only one who prefers jumping right into the heart of the human interaction.

He raised a brow, remained where he was. There wasn't much need to respond to the initial comment. It didn't help he was still idly considering the best plan of escape, should things go south. Better than not being prepared to run and needing to, despite how much he wanted to avoid a fight. Scattering and meeting back up elsewhere would likely be the best option, if it came to it.

Oh. That. Right. That was a thing that had happened. He wouldn't have considered it worth mentioning- or even being thanked for. (It was just his job.) "That's unnecessary. But appreciated." He shrugged, shifted his weight. Relaxing completely would be a bad idea, but there was no indication a fight was imminent. He could afford to get a little more comfortable for a conversation. (Never mind that Luffy was still young and didn't deserve death yet-) "... You want some tea or something?" The sheer effort of finding them just to say a few sentences didn't seem worth all of that. Offering refreshments sounded somewhat fair.

Tension rose immediately, he could feel that much, and he couldn't truly blame anybody for it. Shanks had been well aware that a visit from one of the Emperors usually never warranted a good thing, though unlike the rest of them, he much rather preferred peaceful talks and negotiations than immediately resorting to violence to get the point across. Some might have considered him weak due to that approach, though truly, he wasn't all too bothered by that either. People underestimated him all his life, why should now be any different?

❝ Just from the way you're holding yourself, one would think you're approaching death row, Law, ❞ he remarked, a small smile playing on his lips. Red Hair was always one to try and lighten the situation, especially one like this where he truly had no ill intent. Far from it, in fact.

Shanks took a few steps closer, though still maintained a good distance from the captain of the Heart Pirates. ❝ I'm here to express my thanks for saving Luffy. I was made aware that you and your crew took him with you during the battle of Marineford and saved him from imminent death. Not many would do that. ❞

Why did they even have paint? (Ignoring the fact it was likely someone did some sort of craft as a hobby, currently.) (When you're annoyed, the logical reason is irrelevant.) If the Tang needed repainted, it was much easier to do that while docked. There was no reason to keep paint on hand for that purpose-

And there was Bepo running back in his direction, his attention snapping back up. There was just enough time to get his hat out of the way of the second assault- (He was not going snap at Bepo for ruining that-) And dear god the smell- if he never had fresh paint near him again it would be too soon. The floor was... Never mind, he couldn't even say it was sort of comfortable. It was slick with fucking paint. Law raised a hand, patted at the other- stiff, jerky. "Yes, yes. You don't have to use paint bombs to show it."

Bepo giggles as he hears Law yelling at him. Bepo returns with another balloon smashing it all over Law before flopping onto his captain rubbing his fur all into the wet paint. "I looooveeee youu!"

Bepo looks to Law and cackles, throwing a balloon with paint in it at Law before he runs away, laughing that he now gave the very plain captain a paint job.

The absolute betrayal. How dare. This was never coming out of his clothes. Not only that, it was cold. Unpleasantly cold.

He let out a long breath, flexed his hands- thank god he wasn't actually working on anything. "I hope you realize you're cleaning this up!" Even though Bepo was already halfway down the hall.
