ms-m-astrologer:

I actually wrote a note in my planner about doing this last weekend (Oct 17), but there were those damned forest fires nearby and I needed to pack a suitcase just in case. (Turns out the fires moved northward, and we live southeast. Whew.) Anyway, here we go for a somewhat mellower month:

Sunday, November 1 - in the US, fucking awful stupid Daylight Savings Time ends, at 2:00 am local time. At least we get an extra hour of sleep.

Tuesday, November 3, 17:50 UT - transiting Mercury stations direct, 25:50 Libra

Yippee!!

Friday, November 6, 23:14 UT - Scorpio cross-quarter day (the Sun reaches 15 degrees 0 minutes 0 seconds of the sign Scorpio)

Sunday, November 8 - Mercury leaves its “Storm” period, and begins to move faster than 40 minutes of arc per day.

Monday, November 9, 14:38 UT - transiting Ceres re-enters Pisces

Monday, November 9, 14:51 UT - transiting Vesta enters pre-retrograde shadow, 6:42 Virgo

Tuesday, November 10. approx 17:00 UT - Mercury’s greatest western elongation, 29:47 Libra

Tuesday, November 10, 21:55 UT - transiting Mercury re-enters Scorpio

Thursday, November 12, 21:39 UT - the final Jupiter-Pluto conjunction, 22:51 Capricorn

Departing from the format to say: this will most likely manifest as another spike in coronavirus cases - here in the US, if we haven’t already shut down, we probably will, close to this day. (I don’t see that happening before the election, unless Dolt 45 gets truly desperate.) The Lady Asteroid Pallas Athene is also exactly conjunct Jupiter and Pluto today - and the Lady Asteroid Vesta/Virgo is exactly sesquare (135 degrees) Pallas Athene, Jupiter, and Pluto. JFC.

Saturday, November 14, 00:36 UT - transiting Mars stations direct, 15:14 Aries

Yippee!!

Sunday, November 15, 05:07 UT - New Moon, 23:18 Scorpio

Thursday, November 19, 21:04 UT - transiting Mercury exits post-retrograde shadow, 11:40 Scorpio

Yippee!! However, the very next day….

Friday, November 20 - begin “shadow of the eclipse” period

Saturday, November 21, 13:22 UT - transiting Venus enters Scorpio

Saturday, November 21, 20:40 UT - transiting Sun enters Sagittarius

Sunday, November 29, 00:36 UT - transiting Neptune stations direct, 18:10 Pisces

Monday, November 30, 09:30 UT - Full Moon/Eclipse, 8:38 Gemini

And look, I remembered to add the Opportunity Periods!!

Saturday, October 31, 14:49 UT - Monday, November 2, 10:00 UT. “An innovated and constructive period, but because Mercury is retrograde, use it on matters begun before October 7.” (October 7 is when Mercury first entered its “Storm” period, moving less that 40 minutes per day. Merc had entered its pre-Rx shadow way back on September 23, if you prefer to go back that far.)

Wednesday, November 4, 00:43 UT -  13:49 UT. “Clear thinking with this Moon in Gemini OP, even with Mercury stationary.”

Sunday, November 8, 13:46 UT - Monday, November 9, 11:05 UT. “A very good time for closing a deal or for socializing and having fun.”

Tuesday, November 10, 21:53 UT - Wednesday, November 11, 10:58 UT. “Use this OP for productivity, getting organized, and tidying up.”

Saturday, November 14, 23:37 UT - Sunday, November 15, 00:37 UT. “This Cazimi Moon is usable ½ hour before and ½ hour after the Sun-Moon conjunction. If you have something important to start around now, this is a great time to do it.”

Thursday, November 19, 16:16 UT - 17:30 UT. “Just a short time to do the right thing.”

Tuesday, November 24, 01:18 UT - 10:44 UT. “A nice opportunity to gently start something new and positive. Good for anything, especially for the arts and healing.”

Sunday, November 29, 08:33 UT - 16:16 UT. “With the Moon in down-to-earth Taurus, use this OP for practical projects.”

Boy am I experiencing a Jupiter return year… you’d think it’s a good thing but mine’s a fall placement (cap) and its lord saturn is also fall (aries) in my chart lol. My last Jupiter return coincided with the 08 recession more or less so u can imagine how all the activity in cap (and aries and libra…) is affecting all us cardinal outer planet folks….

scorpioesque:

In an unideal but not uncommon case, venus aspects (for the most part harsh ones like the square and opposition) can make the native project the qualities of the planet venus squares/opposes onto a potential lover/relationship. We are drawn to the people who bring the archetypal energy of the aspected planets into our life. At times that isn’t how the person really is, though, but rather shows what we project onto them because they fit into the mold we need. Often this is because, while we possess these traits already in some shape or form, they’re not honed or prominent enough within ourselves to feel like they suffice - if we even notice that they are part of us. A person with Venus square Mars, for example, might fully project a boldness they have lying dormant within themselves onto any next person who shows a crumb of that trait (usually in the case we are already attracted to them). Once we have fully embraced and actualized the traits our venus aspects already grant us we are less likely to search for them and wrongly project them onto others, and we can see people for who they are and what they can really do for us more clearly. But first we need to realize the things we love about others usually already exist within ourselves. And also, where there is potential for love for another, there is potential for love for the self.

Saturday, October 17, 2020

That doesn’t look like much, either, does it? Even the Moon isn’t very busy today. We’re concerned with secrets in communication, perhaps principally with things we’ve been holding inside - or that others have been holding inside. (What are they thinking about, anyway?) It’s entirely possible that we’ll just blurt something right out, or that we’ll be pushed to our limits and verbally explode - or that someone we know will do so. We’re in a kind of one-track mind and don’t want our focus disturbed. An Opportunity Period begins at 21:52 UT, lasting not quite 24 hours (until 21:43 UT Sunday). “Serious work is probably the best use for this OP,” advises Llewellyn.

What’s happening when:

  • Lunar Phase: New Moon (set a new intention for the month)
  • Moon/Scorpio
  • Juno/Scorpio opposite Uranus Rx/Taurus, 1:19 am MDT (Sunday)

Looking ahead to Sunday: how we deal with disappointment

(Please note that MDT is six hours behind UT.)

pls talk about saturn in hard aspects to the planets!

Saturn bring shame and restriction, fear and a certain heavyness.

Usually with sun makes them really self-controlled and hard on themselves to the point of damaging the self-esteem

With the Moon usually is like you bashing you and being hard on yourself emotionally, being unforgiving and causing silent sadness.

With Mercury makes someone cynical toward everything that is external and is difficult to convince even with facts.

With Venus can make you extremely selective or fearful of commitment since you could see yourself unworthy of love or too scared to be in a relationship.

With Jupiter is like not believing in anything or being unable conforted or saved by faith or religion.

It is especially true with inner planets.

Thursday, October 1, 15:49 UT - Mercury’s greatest eastern elongation, 4:36 Scorpio

Wednesday, October 14, 01:05 UT - transiting Mercury stations retrograde, 11:40 Scorpio

Tuesday, November 10, 21:55 UT - transiting Mercury re-enters Scorpio

Thursday, November 19, 21:04 UT - transiting Mercury exits post-retrograde shadow, 11:40 Scorpio

All right, here we go again. In her book Mercury Retrograde, Chrissie Blaze lists survival tips for Merc Rx in all the signs. Here’s her list for Scorpio:

  • Don’t bottle up or boil over; channel your natural intensity through swimming, yoga, or tai chi.
  • Slow down and meditate; find answers to the meaning of life.
  • Learn new things about yourself.
  • Spend time talking to a lonely neighbor.

(Although let Ms M caution - first make sure that the lonely neighbor wants to talk, and listen, to you.)

Mercury’s function in our charts is our inner computer program, which we can boil down to:

Input —> Process —> Output

That means we can equate Mercury’s retrograde periods to “debugging,” or to upgrading the software. Something about the ways we learn, think, and communicate needs work. If you think about Merc Rx this way, it’s much easier to deal with!

Monday, October 19, 12:25 UT - Juno/Scorpio conjunct Mercury Rx/Scorpio, 9:38 (9 degrees 38 minus);
Tuesday, October 20, 02:53 UT - Uranus Rx/Taurus opposite Mercury Rx/Scorpio, 9:09

Second of three for both aspects. This situation may actually manifest itself a few days early, on Saturday the 17th, when the Moon is in Scorpio. Since these are the second of three, we can receive some clarification about the relationship problems this aspect is pointing out to us. We may not like that clarification, but us liking it is always optional, I’m afraid. (In the US, the first Merc-Uranus opposition came a few hours after Dolt 45 abruptly blew up the stimulus negotiations. Remember that Taurus is money, Scorpio is other people’s money, and Juno is the protectress of the powerless.)

Placements affected lie between 8:09 and 10:38 degrees of the fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius; and between 23:09 and 25:38 degrees of the mutable signs Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.

Wednesday, October 21, 17:32 UT - North Node/22:35 Gemini sesquare Mercury Rx/7:35 Scorpio,
South Node/22:35 Sagittarius semi-square Mercury Rx/7:35 Scorpio;
Wednesday, October 21, 20:30 UT - Venus/22:30 Virgo semi-square Mercury Rx/7:30 Aries

The aspects Mercury makes to the Nodes are the second of three; the semi-square from Venus is a one-and-done. What’s interesting is that Venus is the “esoteric” ruler of Gemini - the sign of the North Node, where we’re supposed to be taking ourselves - and, Venus is in Mercury’s other sign, Virgo. Hoist by our own petards, perhaps, as Venus “helpfully” points out all the many ways we aren’t living up to our intellectual and communication potentials - using faultless Virgo precision to skewer our pretentious. (In the US, the first sesquare/semi-square happened when Dolt 45 discharged himself from Walter Reed hospital. Pushing for something to happen in a foolhardy (Sagittarius) way.)

Placements affected lie between 6:30 and 8:35 of the fixed signs Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius; and between 21:30 and 23:35 of the mutable signs Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.

Friday, October 23, 01:34 UT - Chiron Rx/Aries inconjunct Mercury Rx/Scorpio, 6:08

Second of three. Again, we’re looking for clarification about some adjustment we need to make. Some kind of health matter (given both Merc’s and Chiron’s associations with Virgo) requires us to change our ways. (The day before the first time this aspect matured, Dolt 45 was admitted to Walter Reed hospital; at that time the transiting Moon was opposing transiting Mercury.)

Placements affected lie between 5:08 and 7:08 of all signs, but especially Gemini and Virgo.

Sunday, October 25, 05:15 UT - Neptune Rx/18:29 Pisces sesquare Mercury Rx/Scorpio/3:29 Scorpio;
18:23 UT - Sun-Mercury Rx Inferior Conjunction, 2:47 Scorpio;
Monday, October 26, 16:16 UT - Vesta/Virgo sextile Mercury Rx/Scorpio, 1:39 UT

The aspects from Neptune and Vesta are both the second of three; the conjunction with the Sun is a one-and-done. I plan to do a separate post, and go into much more detail. If you can’t wait that long - this is where we reboot and/or install the new software. If you want to begin some self-improving, spiritual line of study, this is the perfect day.

Placements affected lie between 0:39 and 4:29 of all signs, but especially Taurus, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces; and between 16:47 and 19:29 of the mutable signs Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.

Stay tuned for the second part of this Mercury retrograde, backtracking through Libra!

AKA my notes on the Astrology Podcast’s October Forecast + a little extra
Dates are based off U.S. Mountain Time, so it may be a day earlier if you are in the Eastern Hemisphere

**Saturn has just gone direct in Capricorn, and has been making a Square to Retrograde Mars in Aries for a few days now** (They’re both domicile but Mars is debilitated by the Rx, while Saturn is picking up speed again and becoming stronger, so wherever these planets are traveling in your natal chart I’d expect Saturn to “win out” in this struggle)

October 1: Full Moon in Aries
Mars will also be making a Conjunction with the Moon, emphasizing whatever themes this retrograde has already been drudging up. I’m posting a little late (the Rx is hitting my 9th house of higher learning ok!) but expect some intensity in whichever house Aries rules for you. This is an emotionally volatile transit since it involves combustible Mars and our emotions the Moon, so take extra care of yourself right now.

October 2: Venus enters Virgo
She’s leaving a Trine with Mars and Mercury and will be going towards an opposition with Uranus later this month (around the 18th).

October 4: Pluto stations Direct in Capricorn
It’s still Conjunct Saturn and Jupiter, all of whom are Squaring Mars. The exact Mars-Pluto Square will occur around the 8th, but in general these four will all be kind of at odds. I’m going out on a limb and predict that this does not bode well for the coronavirus situation. It’ll be extra hard to keep our cool around viruses, society’s rules, structure, and desires for growth. Zoo-wee mama!

October 12: Jupiter Sextile Neptune
The podcast doesn’t have much to say about this either so I guess I’ll recommend caution around substances, and to be wary of philosophical leaders who may be trying to deceive others. (Wondering if something large will happen with a certain uhh conspiratorial podcast)

October 13: Mercury stations Retrograde in Scorpio, Opposing Uranus
This opposes Uranus, often called the “higher octave of Mercury,” so we can expect disruptions or disconnects in multiple levels of communication, though new angles can give you a breakthrough. The Rx means it’ll hit twice (on the 7th and on the 19th) so it can be overwhelming. Plans and communication in general will be disrupted, but Uranus may really surprise us with some out-of-the-box ideas. New truths may come to light, though with Mars activity it may be unpleasant. Both oppositions happen at 9 degrees of Scorpio/Taurus, so any placements there or in 9 deg of other fixed signs will be especially affected.

October 16: New Moon in Libra
The sun will Oppose Mars on the 13th, and then Square Pluto and Saturn, making it “besieged” between the two malefics around the same time it Opposes the Moon. Our general ego/consciousness is “between a rock and a hot place” (caught in the crossfire of stone cold Saturn and fiery Mars). Venus, who rules the Moon in Libra, is also Opposing Neptune, so may be extra confusion around our feelings and what’s real. A good time to study up on simulation theory and set intentions of protection, preservation, etc…

October 18: Venus in Virgo Trine Jupiter in Capricorn
A little bit of relief as our two benefics join together in a down-to earth friendship! The Uranus opposition may curb this a bit.

October 22: Sun enters Scorpio
Happy Scorpio season all! Get ready to get socially-distanced spooky!

October 25: Sun-Mercury Conjunction in Scorpio
Opposite Uranus in Taurus. Really lighting up those fixed signs.

October 27: Retrograde Mercury enters Libra, Venus enters Libra
The planets will activate Libra from opposite sides, further activating the activity in Aries and Capricorn. All of this cardinal energy will spur us towards creating new situations and ways of being. We’ll be seeing a lot of T-Squares with the only outlet in Cancer, so we may be emotional about it as well.

(This energy continues into November, and for those of us in the U.S., Mercury stations direct on elekshun day, with Moon entering Cancer to form a Grand Cross with Mars, Venus, and Jupiter/Saturn/Pluto, and opposing those formidable three over the following days. We’re all expecting a recount á la 2000, and I’m wondering if some kind of new precedents will be set as well. How long will this take? etc…)

October 31: Full Moon in Taurus (a rare Blue Moon, the 2nd full moon in one month, and even more special since it’s on Halloween! 👻)
This Moon is Conjunct Uranus in Taurus, Opposite that Sun in Scorpio, shining  a light on things in an unexpected way. We will see a lot of shaking up in the way we do things, but we may be better for it once the dust settles–catalyzed on this full moon. Where is 8 degrees Taurus in your natal chart?

Theme for the month: lots of surprises!

Anyone else feel that Pluto going direct? Weird things have been happening… 🤔

Pluto goes direct 🌙

Feeling the deeper karmic undertones?

Pluto turns direct on October 4th 2020 after 5 months of being retrograde. We have been festering in Pluto’s shadows the last 5 months and we have been reflecting on things of the karmic nature- dealing with control and transformation. Pluto stationing direct will bring things out of the shadows of our shadows and a chance to bring to light what we have been uncovering. And to move on from the inner self reflection we have been doing. Check your house where Pluto sits and aspects to see where this has been directed and if you have a cardinal sign around 22 degrees this is making a harder aspect to that sign. 🌙🌙

My notes on Christian Astrology while I mull over the implications of how they differ from modern rulerships or are similar. I’m honestly not too solid on what “significator” means outside of a horary/electional context, but Lilly’s description of joy/rejoicing seems to be similar to exaltation, so I’m going with rulership as the counterpart for that here.

First House
Aries and Saturn are the co-significators, as they are first sign and planet respectively. Mercury also finds his joy here. Thus he claims a dignified Saturn, well-aspected to the benefics or luminaries, may predict long-term good bodily health here.

Second House
Taurus and Jupiter, following the pattern of second sign and second (classical) planet furthest from the Sun. He considers it a difficult place for both the Sun and Mars.

Third House
Gemini and Mars are its co-significators, with the Moon finding her joy here. If she’s in a mutable sign it could indicate someone very physically or mentally active.

Fourth House
Cancer and the Sun are its co-significators. He associates this house with the father, who is indicated by the Sun in day charts and Saturn in night charts; and as the Sun belongs to the diurnal sect, its can indicate a “noble father” when located here during the day.

Fifth House
Leo and Venus cosignificate and find their joy here, while Mars and Saturn indicate problems here, such as disobedient children (XD).

Sixth House
Virgo and Mercury are its co-significators, in line with modern associations, and Mars rejoices here. He also links a Mars-Venus conjunction here to good physicians and doctors.

 Seventh House
Libra and the Moon are its co-significators, and the malefics here could indicate marital troubles. Definitely gonna come back to this when doing mundane readings.

Eighth House
Scorpio and Saturn are its co-significators, beginning the planetary pattern again. This order of planets (Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon) is the basis of decans in Chaldean astrology–just start with Mars for the first decan of Aries.

 Ninth House
Sagittarius and Jupiter are its co-significators, with the Sun rejoicing here. Makes sense that the planet of kings enjoys the travel and laws. Says, like everyone, that a malefic placed here usually means an atheist or cult zealot (as a 9th house Saturn this one tickles me; I’m into New Age stuff).

Tenth House
Capricorn and Mars are its co-significators, with Jupiter and the Sun being especially benefic here. I find the Mars association useful for natal readings too–drive and ambition in the house of career, and in modern astrology as well we say he exalts in Capricorn.

 Eleventh House
Aquarius and the Sun are its co-significators, with the Jupiter rejoicing here. Interesting that he links it to both the Sun and the sign in which it detriments.

Twelfth House
Pisces and Venus are its co-significators, with the Saturn rejoicing here because he’s the “author of mischief” (XD). Interesting that this is associated with Venus and her sign of exaltation, yet cold hard also Saturn also likes it 🤔

Diagram by me in Paint because I needed a picture of this. (Can you tell I’m right handed? LOL) The colors of the house numbers are from Lilly’s associations as well ;)

astral-obscura:

The Zodiac signs can be described as archetypes of agency.

The planets represent universal forces within the human psyche, and the signs represent how we take charge of them. The basic principle at the core of Zodiacal expression is the innate drive to assert control over oneself & one’s circumstances; this is how we contextualize ourselves in the world, and generally how we understand what & who we are. Each sign defines control (and copes with the lack of it) in their own unique way.

CARDINAL SIGNS ✦ I am in control when I am free to make my own independent decisions, when I am respected & trusted for the decisions I make, when no one can undo what I’ve done, and when I am able to choose the results of a situation for myself. Control is personal power & independence.

FIXED SIGNS ✦ I am in control when I go at my own pace, when I do not have to answer to others, when I am allowed the space to process change, when I can protect my personal resources, and when I am able to choose the meaning of a situation for myself. Control is a secure environment I have authority over.

MUTABLE SIGNS ✦ I am in control when there is a variety of options & routes, when I am allowed to switch my approach or turn back, when others apply their influence in a clarifying or productive way, and when I am able to choose the changes of a situation for myself. Control is openness & fluidity.

FIRE SIGNS ✦ Control is the state of having confidence in myself, having the energy or willpower to face an experience, having knowledge of myself & especially awareness of my weaknesses, and having the ability to harness my strengths in any given situation. Control is expansive, invincible self-trust.

EARTH SIGNS ✦ Control is the state of having answers or a plan, having knowledge of the rules, consequences & possibilities, having time & space to prepare or adapt, having solid goals and having the personal tools or resources to achieve them. Control is a system, a method, a solution, a guide.

AIR SIGNS ✦ Control is having an open mind and an endless stream of ideas, having knowledge and prior experience, having multiple chances or angles of approach, having reliable but flexible connections, and having feedback, support & cooperation. Control is understanding which lifts me above the situation.

WATER SIGNS ✦ Control is having a comfort zone to retreat to, having the space to process things privately or with soothing support from trusted people, having the ability to “feel it out” before diving in, and having the ability to emotionally engage with the situation. Control is feeling safe no matter what.

Friday, October 2, 20:48 UT - transiting Venus enters Virgo

Et Cetera

On Tuesday, September 29, about 16 and a half hours after Saturn stations direct, it will be squared by Mars Rx/Aries. Be super careful, be respectful of others, and breathe. Remember that these two are going to meet in a square relationship one final time - on January 13, 2021, at 3 degrees of Taurus (Mars) and Aquarius (Saturn).

As if to make up for Mars square Saturn, there are three Opportunity Periods this week!

  • Monday, September 28, 05:04 UT - 07:18 UT. Llewellyn didn’t pay much attention to this one (most of us in the US will be sawing logs), so let me say that within those two hours you’ll find lots of mental energy
  • Wednesday, September 30, 05:00 UT - Thursday, October 1, 02:47 UT. “Good for artistic pursuits, but be mindful of the hard aspect between Mars and Saturn and make sure to exercise self-control.” Yeah, Mars square Saturn dominates the first part of the week.
  • Sunday, October 4, 12:59 UT - Tuesday, October 6, 04:03 UT. “Anything from romance to serious work,” says Llewellyn.

Signs on the house cusps don’t work as separate entities in the chart, they all align to create the 1st house personality. A Sagittarius ascendant has the soul of a Pisces in their 4th house, their origins can be clouded in uncertainty, confusion but also spirituality and sensitivity, creating someone who goes into the world searching for awakening purposes or “philosophies” and always questioning things to clear any cloud of vagueness for emotional fulfillment.

A Libra ascendant has the will of a fighter in their Aries 7th house, not realized immediately, but unfolding through projection and interaction with others. Often you find the Libra ascendant to be quite opinionated and concerned with debate, and who to do this with if not within our social and interpersonal relationships? They approach love with that same perception; black and white in that they are passionate about a relationship and lose themselves in it one day, but struggling to find their sense of identity so become flighty in relationships the next.

ms-m-astrologer:

Transiting Mercury enters pre-retrograde shadow

Timeline (current events in BOLD)

Wednesday, September 23, 20:55 UT - transiting Mercury enters Rx shadow, 25:54 Libra

Sunday, September 27, 07:41 UT - transiting Mercury enters Scorpio

Thursday, October 1, 15:49 UT - Mercury’s greatest eastern elongation, 4:36 Scorpio

Wednesday, October 14, 01:05 UT - transiting Mercury stations retrograde, 11:40 Scorpio

Sunday, October 25, 18:23 UT - Sun-Mercury inferior conjunction, 2:47 Scorpio

Wednesday, October 28, 01:33 UT - transiting Mercury retrogrades back into Libra

Tuesday, November 3, 17:50 UT - transiting Mercury stations direct, 25:54 Libra

Tuesday, November 10, 17:00 UT - Mercury’s greatest western elongation, 29:47 Libra

Tuesday, November 10, 21:55 UT - transiting Mercury re-enters Scorpio

Thursday, November 19, 21:04 UT - transiting Mercury exits post-retrograde shadow, 11:40 Scorpio

I know, I know, it royally sucks that Mercury stations direct on the US’s election day. It did the same thing back on November 7, 2000: Mercury started the day retrograde, then changed signs (from Scorpio to Libra), before stationing direct very late (US time) that night. If you weren’t born yet, can’t remember what happened, or have blocked that unpleasantness out of your memory - there was much angst involving vote counts and recounts in Florida, and the election wasn’t officially decided until December 12, 2000. So, gang, don’t expect any instant results on November 3, 2020, either. Brace yourselves now.

Anyway. I really loathe these multi-sign retrogrades, because there’s twice as much work to do. What essentially happens, is that we somehow muff the final passage of the planet through the first sign, which makes it impossible to “do” the next sign well (or at all).

Especially given the Capricorn pile-up of unpalatable realities, the trouble with Mercury/Libra is a failure or refusal to admit the truth. We have our rose-colored glasses practically welded to our eyes, and we aren’t going to take them off. Our current situation is described in an uncannily prescient way by Chrissie Blaze, in her book Mercury Retrograde. About “Mercury Retrograde in Libra,” she wrote:

Your sense of justice and equality may be challenged through apparently unfair events that are out of your control. Actually, life is now compelling you to view things from a perspective other than your own. Try walking in someone else’s shoes and see how it feels.

I’m personally not sure how far I want to walk in racists’ shoes - but understanding how racists got that way (e.g., susceptibility to being “played” by monied elites) can help me fix the problem.

The main thing you should do for now, is to identify which of your natal houses contain the span of 25:54 Libra through 11:40 Scorpio. (That’s tucked away in Ms M’s 12th House.) Next, see if this is going to trigger anything in your chart. Will there be aspects to the Sun, Moon, angles, Nodes, important planets? (Quite a few things for Ms M, with the main one being a three-peat conjunction to her natal North Node.)

I’m going to limit myself to the first Merc/Libra part of the proceedings. That’s enough for starters.

Wednesday, September 23, 10:38 UT - Saturn Rx/Capricorn square Mercury/Libra, 25:21 (25 degrees 21 minutes);
Thursday, September 24, 09:53 UT - transiting Mercury opposite Mars Rx/Aries, 26:36 (26 degrees 36 minutes)

Technically, that Saturn square happens about 10 hours before Mercury enters its retrograde shadow. I’m including it here because it’s the first of three squares between them. And although Mercury’s opposition to Mars happens after the shadow begins, we lucked out - this is a one-and-done situation. All together, though, it sets the unsettling tone for the entire Mercury Retrograde period.

Saturn Rx/Capricorn and Mars Rx/Aries are both very stubborn and difficult. “Intractable” and “implacable” come to mind. This isn’t a new situation (cardinal sign affliction), but rather something we have as yet failed to deal with properly, or healthily. Remember the Lennon lyric: “I couldn’t walk, but I tried to run”? Another way to look at it is an angry populace (Mars of course) versus a shady power structure (Saturn of course).

My thought is that this Merc Rx may start out as some kind of argument - bearing in mind that oppositions work through other people. Someone (perhaps a partner or an “authority”) says something extremely outrageous, offensive, inflammatory, etc. Maybe we hear it when watching the news, maybe while in the store, at work, on the bus. But those angry words set off the Merc Rx process for us. Do we try to understand it from the person’s point of view? Do we clasp our rose-colored glasses even tighter? Do we ignore it and hope it goes away? It’s impossible to mediate between two sides that want to obliterate each other - perhaps that’s the lesson we need to grasp.

For another take: Cam White, a YouTube (and other places) astrologer, mentioned this gnarly start. He thinks it’s going to manifest as Merc/Libra trying to harmonize everything, and Saturn/Cap just saying, “Nope. I’m not going to do that.” What does a peacemaking Mercury/Libra do, in the face of evil?

Placements lie between 24:21 and 27:36 of the cardinal signs Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn; and between 9:21 and 12:36 of the mutable signs Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Aquarius.

Sunday, September 27, 07:38 UT - Ceres Rx/Aquarius trine Mercury/Libra, 29:59

Interesting “blink and you miss it” set up here. At 07:20 UT, Ceres retrogrades back into Aquarius; Ceres trines Mercury at 07:38 UT; Mercury enters Scorpio at 07:41 UT. Twenty-one minutes total, and most of us in the US will sleep right through it. (Aussies, will you please tell us what we missed??)

Fortunately, this is also the first of three trines between Mercury and Ceres. The second one, on October 28, is also in Libra/Aquarius; but the third one, on November 10, sees Mercury moved back into Scorpio and Ceres back into Pisces.

Demetra George (in Asteroid Goddesses) wrote that flowing aspects between Mercury and Ceres “signify the ability to communicate empathetically with others and have rapport with beings who exhibit various levels of intelligence: children, the mentally disabled, plants, and animals.” In a natal chart this helps us develop “new communication skills that enable (us) to clearly articulate (our) needs and actively listen to and receive the response of others.”

So, yes, it’s a good thing that we’re going to have three tries! I’m still blown away by the brevity of this first pass, though. Those of us who won’t be awake, can ask for some dream guidance.

Placements affected lie between 28:59 and 29:59 of the yang signs Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius.
