The bouquet: Gimli and Aragorn got into a drinking competition again and lost. Badly. I got so much money.

Silm hot take of the day: Fingolfin wasn’t necessarily that good a fighter, he was just determined (and wrathful, proud, stubborn, etc) as hell.

He fought in Dagor Aglareb, and the start of Dagor Bragollach. But in the intervening time, it is Fingon who is credited with defending Hithlum from dragons and orc armies alike. He didn’t need to be that skilled for his most famous fight—Morgoth isn’t said to be a skilled warrior, just powerful. Fingolfin dodges his blows at first; only when he wearies do they start to land, and each one drives Fingolfin to his knees. Morgoth is also physically large, which makes him an easier target to hit.

And it’s the hits, I propose, where Fingolfin shows his strength, not in arms but in spirit. “His eyes shone like the eyes of the Valar”! When Eowyn fought the Witch-King, his mace broke her shield-arm but it was the arm with which she struck him down that went so numb and lifeless it could only be healed by athelas and the king. Now imagine striking Morgoth! Seven times! And still thrice he got back to his feet after Morgoth struck him down!

Truly, ain’t no party like a House of Finwë Party because a House of Finwë Party will NOT quietly die down no matter how much you want them to.
