Balancing good grades and mental health during the pandemic.
As a university student the hardest thing during the pandemic is to keep up with my weekly assignments and presentations while being mentally stable to actually be in a position where I’m able to get all this work done.
• Start mediation: everyone and their mom talk about meditation nowadays and there’s a reason. Try to implement a 10 minute meditation session to your routine; each morning after your breakfast take some time to calm yourself down, be aware of your body, the place you’re in and the fact that you’re healthy and alive on Earth. Be grateful for the things you’ve accomplished and focus on the positive.
• Be prepared: from my experience so far the classes that require at home preparation or homework are pretty standard each week, for example I already know that on Thursday I will have at least one presentation so I always make sure that I’ve done my other papers before the Thursday’s one comes up. Try keeping your schedule light; do one assignment every day and don’t try finishing them all in one day, spread them out.
• Exercise: you will need as much endorphins as you can possibly get. After your class put on clothes and go for a run, make some coffee and go drink it while walking and breathing outside in the fresh air. It will help you get back on studying more motivated and aware of what you have to do.
• Wake up early: again, basic but when you begin your studying at 9:00am, focus on studying for three hours and after all that work you’re done and you still have the entire day ahead of you you will feel much better about studying in general because it will be something that you will get done in a couple of hours and then you’ll continue with your day (when you spread your work out!!), there’s no need to panic; you’ll still have plenty of time to do whatever you want after your homework.

Tips for doing well on your exams.
• Make a study-plan: Organize your time so you can be able to study more than one lesson per day and finish everything on time. Devote your mornings to one subject and study another one in the afternoon. Making progress in more than one class really makes it seem like you finished your studying quicker and easier.
• Sleep: You have to sleep for about 7-8 hours every day. Set an alarm on your phone and when the clock shows 10:00 pm close your books, go grab a drink or a snack, do your night routine and get back on your studying the next day with a more fresh and well rested mind.
• Get a tutor: Asking for your help does not reduce your value as a student. You struggle just like everybody else; asking for a helping hand from a person that spent 4+ years studying this subject will definitely help.
• Eat good: Eat healthy and rich in protein and carbs meals, you will need all the energy you can get. Prioritize studying rather than dieting for a month and fuel your body with the nutrients it needs to be able to work and stay focused these many hours.
• Always paraphrase: Memorizing a whole book is near to impossible. Read the chapters 2-3 times, take good and detailed notes and focus more on understanding what these chapters are trying to get across so you’ll be able to answer every question the professor might choose to throw at you in the exams. Learning by heart requires way more effort and is not always effective when the question requires critical thinking.

3 Websites/Apps that every student needs.
• Photomath: Photomath is an app where you can take a photo of a math equation and it solves it for you but unlike some other apps that give you straight up the answer Photomath provides you with a detailed analysis of the solving procedure.
• Hemingway: This a site that comes really handy when it comes to double-checking essays. After finishing a big essay most people make mistakes (e.x. some words might not be correctly written or might not “fit”) so you copy and paste the whole article or whatever you’re writing there and it highlights the vocabulary or syntax mistakes made.
• IXL: This is a website for maths practice problems that I mentioned in my previous post. There’s not much to explain, it provides you with all kinds of exercises for whatever you need and at least for me it has done wonders.

Tips for studying maths.
• Mark all your questions: If when you were correcting your homework something turned out wrong or you were confused in any way during solving an exercise, mark that down and the next day or whenever you get the chance address it with your teacher. Answer one question at a time in your mind and don’t be scared to come in contact with your teachers, after all their job is to help you learn.
• Use your flashcards: Especially if you have an upcoming test or even for everyday classes write theory or equations down so whenever want you’ll be able to quickly look over them before class without carrying the entire textbook around.
• Do practice problems (solve them): Maths require practice and solving the same exercises over and over until you understand the mindset and how you’re supposed to use the types in different contexts. A useful site that provides good examples and exercises for practice is IXL.
