Trimmed the Monte carlo today, got enough to make another carpet instantly
Sometimes I'm really amazed how fast that stuff grows.

Keeping aquariums is cool
Until you A forget you were pumping water back in a aquarium while cleaning a filter, and suddenly hear water dripping on the floor... Whoops (I got ADD and clearly said not to forget, but yknow how that goes)
Or B you don't seal the pre filter on the canister filter properly and it suddenly starts spitting water like crazy on the same day :)
So I flooded the floor twice and i don't have any towels left for a shower :)

FYI for anyone who has a pool and is sad about having bugs fall in: there’s something called a “frog log” that’s basically a little ramp leading out of the pool, to help them climb back out. It’s meant for bigger animals (like frogs) but since we put one in the amount of drowned bugs went down a lot!
Yes! My friends have one in their pond so chipmunks stop drowning themselves. Very useful!

I was taking this walstad aquarium apart, to do something new.
But I quickly wanted to show you can absolutely grow Monte carlo in a low tech set up. It didn't get enough light in recent weeks that's why it so tall but it looks super fresh
Good soil and a decent light is all you need for some nice growth
(the dwarf hair grass really needed a bit more to keep up with the Monte carlo)
(also it looks murky cause I forgot this boy for about 3 months :p but it doesn't hold animals so no harm no foul)

It's took about a year to run out but the day has come to replace this bad boy.
I got it open in my garden for a few minutes so I won't have my regulator flying through the roof when I take it of. Making sure it's empty is kinda important :p quite proud of this 800 gram cilinder to last so long.

Ah yes, an other completed aquascape, not going say too much about it since it's all on my blog (I'll respond to any questions tho) but yeah apart from some bba and staghorn algae it was a fun journey, I set this up on the 7th of January so it's 6 months old.
gonna keep it going for another 3 months at which point I'll be sick of maintenance and trying to keep the same scape going so after that I'll make a Dutch style aquascape. Since I'm Dutch myself and just like the look of that lushness.
I'll try to make a feeding video of the green neon tetra's soon cause they're like piranhas when it comes to food, also probably why I never see baby shrimp, so I might set those apart again to breed some day.
Anyway stay safe folks and keep on loving nature ;D

I knew it had to happen but I just didn't wanna do it

I noticed some stems inside that jungle weren't getting enough light and started to loose the leaves so before it all died off, I trimmed it all and replanted the rotala green and rotala H'ra more randomly.
And with how stupid fast this tank grows plants I give it a month before it's back to being as full as the first picture but it's worth it :D
Also extra glamour shot bc why not

Haven't posted in a while (depression is being a real bitch lately) but I thought I'd post some general pic's of my tanks. One is not included since it faces the window and it's a sunny day, more glare than aquarium :p
The high tech aquascape could use a trim but it doing really well, I consider it almost done, few patches of Monte carlo that need to grow in so in about 2 weeks it should be a finished aquascape. Probably gonna change it to a Dutch aquascape in 2 months tho.
Second picture is my plant storage/ betta home/culled shrimp tank. It's over growing nicely, gonna stop trimming it and see if the plants will grow out of the water, having zero algea problems with it so it's a Lil blessing to care for :p
3rd picture, was supposed to look amazing by now but it's giving me a real hard time, something is off and I can't figure it out. I'm assuming it's the light being too powerful with not having co2. So I might add co2 or change out the whole thing, I love watching the celestial pearl danio's in there but the tank is an eye sore for me, gotta save money for either option so it will be put on hold for now.
And at last the walstad method vase, its getting some algae due to being next to a window so moving it should take care of it, still doing alright though for something that's nearly neglected.
The red cherry shrimp tank that's not on here is also doing alright. Plants are growing but I need to rescape it I wanna go for a jungle theme with it. It's doing good its just not looking good y'know.
Thanks for reading if you made it this far, stay safe friends!

Here's a picture of my first ever attempt at a nature aquarium (had no idea aquascaping was a thing back then) It held my Spanish ribbed newts (pleurodeles waltl) I think I was 10 when I made this aquarium, and it was pretty shitty, atleast I did a lot of water changes but all the plants died, had the newts for absolute ages so I guess I got their care right atleast. I stopped and sold everything when i was 15ish years old and started again at age 22 with just some red cherry shrimp.

2,5 years after starting the hobby and learning a lot about aquascaping, golden ratio's, water parameters, lighting, keeping plants healthy, animal care. Just tying to learn everything in general, resulted in my latest aquascape and its a world of difference.
Now I'm not saying if your aquarium looks like my first that yours is bad or ugly, not at all. I just prefer the second and I thought it would be a nice comparison to show the difference in effort and knowledge. (this post its about the aquascaping aspect of keeping aquariums)
Also what did your first aquarium look like? Show me if you got picture's :D
