can we take a sec to appreciate the colours in “one day”?

in every shot in “one day” there is either a combination of blue and yellow or turquoise and orange OR just plain orange and plain blueish turquoise. i have absolutely no idea what it means but my guess is it’s a tool to show dexter and emma’s closeness and tension. During scenes where there’s lots of tension, these complementary colours are more vivid and abundant in the shots. but when there’s less tension between the two, there’s usually one prominent colour.

here when dex brings his girlfriend to emma’s work there’s obviously tension between the them cuz emma is just in love and doesn’t say SHIT. the orange and turquoise colours in the scene are soooo overwhelming and enhances this which is amazing. also when they both meet after the whole maze thing, there’s blue and yellow on the train, as well as green and orange in emma’s house and the whole part is suuuuper awkward so, great use of colour there.

contrastingly, when things are really good and happy in the show, there’s usually an orange wash over the frame. whereas when dex is using drugs and it super depressed and also after emma dies, the lighting and colours are really dark and blue/torquoise. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BLUES OH MY GOSH.

overall the colours in this show actually blew me away to the point where i wasn’t even following the story anymore and i had to pull myself away from analysing the colours cuz they’re just SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

i just watched bones and all today and found a parallel between it and little women. both scenes were stunning, and both had tim in it (which is unrelated). theres just smt about two characters on a hill with that long shot that’s just so fucking cool and beautiful. a type of vulnerability where you really get to see how two characters interact because there’s no one else to see them.

just finished “everything now” and holy shit. the way it fucked with my brain was so crazy, but it was so so good.

i have to say the costumes, lighting and music were on point. there was one thing that seemed kinda off to me, and that was the lack of screen time alison and mia had while they were in their relationship. but then my inner media student kicked in and realised that was done for a reason.

i think mia is only obsessed with the idea of love, and wanting to be loved, but only to a certain extent. this is obvious with her obsession with carli, her adding all that lovey stuff to her list and also the leading up to her relationship with alison. when they actually get together, alison is more like an accessory rather than something deeper. it contrasted heaps from theo and will’s thing going on, which was explored a lot more because it was MEANINGFUL.

from this it was obvious that mia didn’t think much of her relationship with alison, how she still liked carli (and she also fucking kissed her while she was with alison), and how much she was consumed by her ed. it just shows how badly she wanted to be loved, but she couldn’t love herself yet so she wasn’t able to love other people how they deserved to be.

other than that this show was so fucking good and dark and twisted but ahhhh i love it i hope it gets renewed for a season 2!!!
