Navigating around his home was easy for him. He could do it completely blind if it came down to it. Most sunny days he might as well have been, but when the night came and the world was dark, it all became just a little clearer. As Niko moved further in the kitchen, he took a lantern, an old looking oil lantern, and lit it. It gave the kitchen a warm glow as it grew more dark, but he made sure to keep it much brighter than he normally would out of respect for his guest. The candle's light was much less harsh on his eyes than electricity tended to be.
With the lantern in hand, he moved to the counter by the sink, taking a glass out of one and filling it with water for her, "Well... I suppose I can't be too surprised. I've been here long enough that any person is bound to have something to say. About me, my family, my land," he set the glass down for her, joining her across the table as he placed the lantern down a bit closer to her than himself, "I'm just trying to live a quiet life, Ms. Gray. I've never been one for the spotlight, though it still seems to find me anyway."
He was focused on her face, the image of her becoming clearer the more he stared. Young, and pretty. But, there was something about the way she watched him, a curiosity he is familiar with. A long moment of silence passed before he just smiled at her, waving a hand to her as he sat back, "But, I'm sure you have things you want to ask me. It's written all over your face. Go on, I'm an open book. Well, mostly, anyway."

“Oh my god, are you okay? Should I call an ambulance?”
Niko had to curse the way the weather would change so quickly. It was supposed to rain, and rain for a long time. That's what the weather had promised. The overcast should have lasted long enough for Niko to at least get his morning run done. He thought taking a detour through the city would be nice, and a more relaxing way to get to work. But, the rain never came and the clouds cleared up before he could make it very far into the streets. With that light beating down on him, he had to stop and fast.
This alley was his safest haven. The buildings were close enough that the shadows shouldn't disappear, at least not too quickly. And even if it did he could just as easily switch sides. At that moment, he just sat back against the wall with his right, scarred cheek facing the street. The cracks along his face and his neck seemed much more noticeable in his weakened state. One wrong move and that one down his neck could stretch further. But, he was careful. He kept still, trying to regain his strength a bit.
The woman's voice, he hadn't been expecting, really. His eyes squinting a bit, he looked up towards her. Such a lovely color of concern was clear against the bright white of the sky. He tried to smile, shaking his head in a small movement, "No... No, don't do that... But... You - wouldn't happen to have an umbrella, would you?"
It was a long shot, but, if she was willing call an ambulance, maybe she'd be willing to help him somewhere darker. Maybe... Help him regain his energy, if she was willing to hear him out on that part.

"Oh, you aren't -" when the door opened to a shade he didn't recognize, Niko gave a confused look. Apartments in the city were not easy for him to identify since they typically always looked the same. Not to mention if there was a number or nameplate, the text was never raised and braille was never something he really got a feel for. Maybe it was just proof that he needed to visit his oldest son's home a bit more often, but it certainly didn't help his current predicament.
He flashed a half smile as he scratched at his head, taking a step back, "Sorry, I've got the wrong address... Maybe even the wrong building. I didn't meant to disturb you... or wake you."
The idea that he might have woken her only came after the fact. It was late for most people, even if it was technically early for him, "I was looking for the central street building, 4-D?" Maybe he could at least get some directions to point him the right way.
‣ Open: Mutuals/NonMutuals (anyone)
"Do you know how important this is?" Jade had plenty to deal with when it comes to her job. Stress is situational. Depending on what sort of case she's involved with it can be the simplest or cause a lot of grief. At times she wonders how much blood she can wade through before it all goes numb. That's what she signed up for. she knew going in things wouldn't always be minor grievances. Lately, though, she's been embroiled in following up on forensics in what appears to be a connected series of murders.
She switched her phone from one ear to the other, moving through her apartment at a steady pace. Occupied with the voice of a colleague, Jade gave it plenty of thought. "I know. I know I should be getting rest but I can't stop thinking of this. DNA can only get me so far and the investigators need those results in the lab before they can even officially call this a serial matter. That's why I brought the data home on my thumb drive." Information is power. Connecting the dots will tell a story and if there's one killer with multiple victims they're dealing with the classic case of a serial killer. No going back from that.
Jade's conversation stalled, her pacing doing the same. Overhearing someone in the hallway, she is sure there's a person nearby. It could be a neighbor heading inside but the knock at her door disproved that idea. "Hey, someone's at my door. Can I call you later?" Lowering the phone at her side she moved curiously over to the door. She reached up to unlock it, revealing the visitor on the other side....

The sun had already set by the time the journalist pulled up to the home, following his instructions carefully so she didn't get lost. He was certainly right about the location - nestled among the apple trees at the end of the road. It looked so peaceful and cozy, and so well maintained. A home built out of love. And evident enough from the huge smile on the man's face once he opened the door to the house, "Oh good, I found the right place!" Eloise laughed, "Thank you for taking time for me, Mr. Solomon. I really appreciate it."
The first thing he noticed when he opened the door was just how bright and open this young woman seemed to be. Eloise Gray had certainly made an impact when she stopped by the gym earlier in the week, asking everyone about him until she managed to track him down. It was peculiar. Niko knew he was a bit of an oddity, outside of the obvious vampirism he did little to hide, but for someone to come looking for him specifically like that was unusual. At least until she mentioned she was a journalist. Looking for a story then?
"Niko, please," he welcomed her warmly with a smile as he pushed the door further open to allow her to step inside, "Come in, make yourself at him. I know my home is a little out of the way, but I am glad you were able to find it alright."
The front room of the home was a simple little sitting room with shelves covered in knickknacks and various photos that were mostly of a woman and three kids at different ages. One photo of the three sat at eye level in the front. they seemed to be happy as they talked, only one aware of the camera as he laughed.
Niko closed the door behind her, flashing another smile as his milky eyes looked directly into hers, "Can I get you anything? Water or coffee? Apple juice?" he gave a chuckle before turning to walk through an open doorway that led through the living room and into the kitchen, "I understand you've been trying to reach me. I hope it's not an inconvenience - I'm pretty much a night owl these days."

Important story points and updates:
The Solomon family home is situated on 10 acres of farm land that are all in Niko's name and owned by him. The house itself is situated closest to the road but about 50 yards. The rest of the property is covered in a huge apple orchard and surrounded by a simple wooden fence.
The house is a 3 bedroom and 2 bath 2 story home with a storm shelter basement. It was built by Niko's own hands over a period of 2 years. There is also a small apartment sized home not far from it he built relatively recently for his youngest son, Jesse.
In addition to the orchard there is also a small pond and a well kept flower garden surrounding two memorial stones.
In the event that something happens to Niko, the property goes to his first son Finnick.
Because Finnick married another vampire, they were unable to have kids on their own. So, they adopted fraternal twin girls. In the present they are about 5.
Jesse is still human, prone to illness and weak at the best of times. He had to move from the apartment he had taken over after Jolene passed to live more comfortably near his father. It's a quiet retirement, but one he enjoys.
Niko's late wife Juliet was a successful author with more than a few books released in different subjects. They include fiction and nonfiction. Niko still receives royalties for them now and then.
Details about Juliet's books and the Solomon home will be expanded on in their own posts
