never be embarrassed for being proud of your OC.  never listen to the voices telling you they’re too powerful or too weak,  too angry or too happy,  too hard or too vulnerable,  too strong or not strong enough.  if they are exactly how you intended to create them,  or if they’ve grown beyond what you imagined in a way that makes you happy,  then that’s all that matters.  every published and produced ‘canon’ character is someone’s OC.  you don’t bat an eye at these characters being proclaimed to be powerful.  you don’t bat an eye at them being praised within the text or loved by the writers and fans.  your OC is no different.  there is not any real,  important difference between what you’ve created and what you see on the pages of a book or on a screen.  it’s all of equal value.  it’s all just people telling stories and enjoyment is the only real value.

some advice I got a long time ago about making your characters more realistic:

If you can’t imagine your character in silly or embarrassing situations without feeling very personally offended; take a step back, kick your character off their pedestal and let them breathe.

Let them feel and react in the same way you and others do. Let them laugh at dumb things, let them trip and fall on their face a few times. Let them experience life.

Don’t take your characters so seriously that all the fun qualities are removed in the process.

the roleplaying community cannot be a community without communication. i know it can be intimidating to talk to potential partners, but 9 times out of 10, it won't be bad. just take initiative, be creative, and be a community.

friendly reminder that characters' chemistry comes from communication between the authors. you can't expect to gain the same chemistry as another author unless you communicate, and even then, it cannot be guaranteed. chemistry between characters is dynamic and cannot be expected to appear in the same way for every character.
