A thing that continues to be insane to me is how every single artists rendition of Blue is SO valid to me. Like I’ve seen this girl drawn in so many different styles, vibes, appearances and races and every single time I’m like yup there’s my girl.

I couldn’t find the source to save myself but I recall Maggie saying Noah was ALSO named after an artist who I assume was Alfred Czerny. (It could have been another artist with this last name but Alfred Czerny was definitely the most prolific)

Anyway this post made me look up the artist and one of his pieces stood out to me with how much it reminded me of Noah.

This piece is called Liegende which translated from German means ‘lying down’. The duality of the piece stuck out to me as the figure simultaneously appears like it’s curled up in agony and resting which I think perfectly epitomises Noah’s character arc. Additionally Noah means ‘rest’ which I think is additionally poignant.

I’m not sure what Maggie Stiefvaters motive behind naming Noah after Alfred Czerny was or if this specific piece of art even contributed to the choice however I do think it’s possible considering the detail orientated etymology of her characters. Regardless the artwork captured me and reminded me of Noah which is always a bittersweet thing and I wanted to share that.

i love how maggie stiefvater was like “i love john singer sargent so much i’m gonna use sargent as my main characters last name.” and then she wrote a follow up book series and was like “fuck it his art is instrumental to the plot now”
