Dread filled Adrien's stomach as the phone rang.

"Hey A- uh, Adrien, why am I seeing your bathroom tiles?"

He cringed as he kept is phone facing the ground. "H-Hey, Marinette. It'll all make sense in a moment, but I need your help."

"Sure - anything," she agreed easily.

"Okay, here goes."

He lifted the phone so she could see his face and the monstrosity atop his head. Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped.

"Please don't be mad!" he blurted, wincing as her eyes never strayed from the traffic cone disaster zone.

"It's very... orange," she said diplomatically.

"I know," he said, desperate to curl up into a ball and hide for all eternity.

"I mean... I know you've wanted to do cosplay, but I thought you'd buy a wig or something, not actually dye your hair," she said, the shock seemingly wearing off as she talked. "I didn't know there were any anime conventions in town - who are you going as? Hinata Shoyo? You're a little taller than him, but you do have the sunshine part down pat! Or are you going as Hikaru or Kaoru? But who'll be the other twi- OH MY GOD IS FÉLIX GOING TO BE YOUR TWIN? IS HE THERE? I WANNNA SEE HIS ORANGE HAIR! DOES KAGAMI KNOW? OH THIS IS AMAZING!"

Adrien chuckled at her enthusiasm to see his typically composed cousin sporting a tangerine for hair, her easy acceptance and rationalisation (though wrong) of his hair calming his nerves enough to correct her assumptions.

"Sorry, but there's no anime conventions on, and this," he said, pointing to his head, "was a complete accident. Though I am glad that you've been watching some of my anime recommendations!"

"I've only just started working through the list, but we can talk about anime later - what do you mean this was an accident?" she asked.

"Remember that app we were playing with the other day that had a filter to change our hair colours?"

"Yeah? And you decided orange was your colour?" she answered skeptically.

Adrien picked up the box from the sink. "I remembered you saying that you loved the strawberry blond look on me, so I thought I'd give it a go."

"Oh no."

"Oh yes," he groaned. "But instead of the sweet subtle hues of spring, I have half a basketball on my head."

Marinette's giggles almost makes his bright orange blunder worth it... almost.

"So? Can you help me fix this?" he pleaded.

"Of course I will," she said, and he let out the breath he didn't know he had been holding.

"Thank you, Marinette."

"Although, I don't know much about hair dye..." she admitted, trailing off with a frown, before her eyes snapped up to meet his through the call, a determined glint visible in the pixels. "I have an idea! How soon can you be at mine?"

He looked at Plagg. "Soon - why?"

"Come over! I have to make a call! Love you!"

He managed to say "love you" in return before the phone call hastily ended. He ransacked his wardrobe before finding a black beanie and promptly shoving all his hair into it, and throwing on a black hoodie for good measure.

"How's this?" he asked Plagg.

"Why are you trying to look like Eminem?" Plagg asked.

"How do you know who Eminem is?" Adrien asked incredulously.

"I happen to have great musical taste," Plagg defended.

With his kwami and a snap-lock bag with Camembert stashed in his pockets, and scooping the hair-dye packaging and contents into a spare plastic bag, Adrien rushed out of the mansion, calling out to Nathalie that he was going to Marinette's as he rushed through the doors and out the gates, ducking into a side street to transform into Chat Noir (who thankfully had very normal hair) to speed up his journey. Detransforming in an alley behind the bakery, he hastily entered the bakery, greeting Tom and Sabine as they let him through to the stairwell, taking the steps two at a time before knocking on the apartment door.

"Wow, that was fast," Marinette commented as she opened the door to him doubled over as he tried to catch his breath.

"Hey," he wheezed, kissing her cheek as he entered. "So what's the plan?"

"I called Penny, you know, Jagged's PA?"

"Yeah?"

"And-" she was interrupted by knocking on the front door, which she opened with a happy, "Thanks for coming!"

"I heard it was an emergency, and I owed Peggy a favour," replied one of the coolest-looking guys Adrien had ever seen as he walked through the door.

"Adrien, this is Penny's cousin, Wade, who's Jagged's personal hairstylist. Wade, this is my boyfriend, Adrien," Marinette introduced.

"Nice to meet you," Adrien greeted, offering his hand to Wade, who accepted it and shook it.

"Likewise. So what can I do for you today?"

Adrien lifted the plastic bag with its traitorous contents for Wade to see.

"I tried to dye my hair strawberry blond, but..." he trailed off, his embarrassment suddenly returning in full force.

"Didn't work out, huh?" Wade said kindly. "Why don't we rip off the band-aid and see what we're dealing with.

With a reassuring nod from Marinette, Adrien reluctantly pushed back the hood and pulled off the beanie. Wade stared.

"...and you said this was supposed to be strawberry blond?" Wade asked tactfully.

Adrien nodded glumly. "I didn't think it'd be this bad - I'm a natural blond as it is."

"Well, don't you worry about a thing, Adrien, I'll fix this for you," Wade promised.

"Thanks," Adrien sighed. He couldn't wait for his carroty existence to become a distant memory, and he vowed to never home-dye his hair again... at least not with the same brand.

"Okay, and if everything developed as it was supposed to..." Adrien muttered to himself, slowly taking off the plastic bag he'd wrapped around his hair, "...It should look..."

Adrien studied his reflection in the mirror. He was right; It did look. BAD.

He went to fish the box the hair dye came in out of the trash, just to check for sure. Indeed, they looked nothing similar: The box showed what looked like a subdued strawberry blonde, and the mirror showed an orange that wouldn't be out of place in a construction zone.

"This is fine," he said to himself, gritting his teeth. "...Nothing washing some of the dye out can't fix."

So, Adrien bent over his bathroom sink and began to scrub at his roots like his life depended on it, because in that moment it felt like it very much did. Buckets and buckets worth of bright, kindergarden-crayon-orange seeped into the sink's drain, until it finally gave way to an only slightly better highlighter-orange shade of runoff dye.

After that good 5 minutes of "fixing it", Adrien looked back to his reflection in the mirror. No change, aside from his mouth falling open in abject horror.

"Oh god, no no no no—"

Looking to his hands brought him no comfort, as they now were stained just as orange, like he was the Lady Macbeth of shoving his hands up a jack-o-lantern's ass. And just as Lady Macbeth experienced, no amount of scrubbing would rid his hands of the "damned spot"—one which covered the entirety of his palms and fingers.

A squeaky voice echoed from behind him—One who'd clearly been watching this spectacle the entire time. "Looks like you missed auburn big ti—"

"YOU'RE NOT HELPING!" Adrien shouted back, letting the sink still run—the dye wasn't even willing to part from its ring around the drain, it seemed. Adrien nearly buried his face in his hands, before he stopped himself from spreading the horrid disease further. "God, my father's going to come back from the dead just to kill me for this. —I can't go out looking like this!"

"Luka Couffaine goes out with dyed hair all the time."

"Luka Couffaine does not look like a fucking papaya, Plagg!" Adrien collapsed over his sink, debating whether or not this mistake was worth taking up teenage alcoholism. "I can hear it already.... I'll be called 'Orange Boy' for the rest of my life..... I just wanted to not be blonde anymore, and look at me," he whined, "I'm a disgrace!"

"At worst you look like a fruit!" Plagg replied. "And everybody already knew that about you."

If Plagg had shoulders to grab, Adrien would have done so, just to violently shake him. Maybe rub off some horrible mango-colored hue on his body too, just to impart upon the kwami some of his misery.

"...God," he lamented. "I have to tell Marinette... Warn her about what I've done to myself."

What if, that night, Chat Noir comes to visit her again, thinking that this time he'll be able to convince her for sure, but when he arrives, Marinette cuts him off before he can say anything, being like "why'd you get Adrien in on this?" and he's like "I didn't-" but she continues, not hearing him, saying "Do you have any idea what it's like to have your crush insistently trying to tell you for an hour straight that your beautiful? Huh?"

and he's had a mental record scratch and is like "wait - Adrien Agreste is Buttercup?" because obviously that's the most important piece of information here, and she's like "Yeah! And he was trying to convince me I'm beautiful all lunch! And you put him up to it, didn't you? Chat? ...Chat?"

but he isn't registering anything because his brain is filled with internet dial-up noises. he is just standing there like a statue, with Marinette waving her hand in front of his face and trying to shake him out of his stupor, but nothing works for a good fifteen minutes before he says "I've got to go" and goes home to scream into his pillow and at Plagg about this new discovery and associated confusing romantic feelings, leaving Marinette wondering why Adrien being Buttercup is so clearly horrifying to her superhero partner.

for a moment, she doesn't know what to say. there's silence across the balcony.

and then suddenly she bursts into uncontrollable laughter, because "chat it's so weird to hear you say stuff like that to me please never do it again."

he is SO MAD

okay, but what if while marinette is laughing, chat's fuming and thinks well, if chat's not allowed to say it, adrien will!

and so the next day adrien's just full of restless energy as he waits for the right opportunity to bring it up in conversation, and he finds it and asks her "do you have any idea how gorgeous you are, marinette?"

marinette gets all flushed and flustered and her heart's aflutter when the wording sinks in and it's all too familiar and she does a cute lil frown pout and is like "chat noir put you up to this, didn't he?"

and so adrien's internally sulking as he tries to convince marinette for the rest of the lunch break that no, chat noir didn't tell him to tell her she's beautiful, and no, he's not lying to make her feel better, but by the end of lunch, he's unsuccessful because marinette simply can't believe that her crush actually thinks she's beautiful

Nino would probably just accept the presents because 1: it's from Chat Noir, duh, and 2: maybe Chat Noir somehow heard Nino bagging him out before he became Rocketeer and felt bad (hence the gifts), so Nino obvs had to take the presents, otherwise it'd be rude, y'know? And aside from his very clear error in judgement (hindsight's 20/20, after all), Chat Noir is his favourite superhero (well, right after Rena Rouge, that is!)

Alya naturally would have her journalist mode fire up, but go in the completely wrong direction (she was committed to her theory that Chat Noir was a relation of Santa Claus's, and won't let up on it).

Marinette, however, would see through it almost immediately. "Wait a minute," she'd say, frowning and crossing her arms, "did Adrien put you up to this?" before immediately proceeding to lecture him on how by doing this, he was encouraging Adrien to believe that buying objects on a whim was okay, when it was likely Adrien (who's father totally sucks and doesn't show him the love he clearly deserves because Adrien deserves the world) felt it necessary to buy those things for her and their friends because he seeks their affection, and Marinette wants to make it abundantly clear to Adrien that he already has their love, and shouldn't feel the need to spend so much money on them. Chat Noir, who's very moved by her passionate monologue, just asks gently, "but what if he wants to buy you gifts simply because he wanted to because he thought it might make you happy, and your happiness makes him happy? what if gift-giving is his love language?" and Marinette just blue screens, complete with internet dial-up noises.

Nino and Alya feel emotional whiplash when Marinette's determined agenda comes to a screeching halt and does a 180 like she's doing donuts with a car, and she's like "yeah, just let him do it".

adrien is absolutely the kind of friend you can never jokingly ask to buy you stuff. alya will sarcastically say 'you should buy me this €80 shatterproof phone case' and a week later he's like 'here you go :D' marinette will say 'i wish someone would just send me to a fully paid for spa weekend' and she'd check her email at the end of the day and adrien has booked it all for her. everyone tries telling him to stop but he genuinely just loves giving stuff to his friends. but this also means everyone now AGGRESSIVELY reduces the things they joke about wanting. nino will say 'you know i think i want these very affordably priced headphones from ebay', marinette will say 'i could really do with a loving, friendly massage right now'

Adrien, Marinette, Nino and Alya have a group assignment about how the past has shaped them into the people they are today, but they’ll make a discovery that’ll send them searching for answers.

This fic is adorable, Adrien, Marinette, and Nino uncover that they all went to the same preschool together, with Adrien and Marinette immediately latching onto each other, Adrien being the knight to Marinette’s princess, and also making friends with Nino. Sadly he was pulled after two weeks, but it made quite an impression on him.

Poor Adrien keeps on saying or doing just the wrong thing to give Marinette the impression that he’s a bully like Chloe when he’s not, and he keeps desperately trying to fix it. So a bit of an enemies au in that way, since Marinette doesn’t like him much. He does gradually manage to convince her that he’s a good person though.

Poor Adrien here, he makes a long-time friend (who everyone thinks is an imaginary friend), and has several great years interacting with her as his parents grow more concerned with him not growing out of it... and then Emilie dies, Gabriel orders the window destroyed, Adrien’s put on medication to suppress his “hallucinations” (which also makes him forget Marinette) and he’s just kind of left like that for the next several years, until he’s an adult.

Luckily, while Adrien forgot Marinette, Marinette never forgot him, and he’s not too difficult to track down...

Funnily enough I started writing back in school too! For the Harry Potter fandom though (I need to write more for that...) but yeah - it's a weird feeling to kinda blink and go "huh, I've been writing for a decade???" XD

Fun fact, I used to always write about me and my friends and all the adventures we would go on so that sparked my interest in writing in general. As for sharing fanfiction, I was thirteen at the time and I was in the Sonic fandom (huuuuuuge fan of sonamy, silvaze and shadmari). I couldn't find any stories that were 'perfect' for me or had things I was looking for so I took the reigns myself and BOOM that's how my fanfic writer era started.

Can you believe I've been writing fanfics for over ten years...?

🌿 ⇢ give some advice on writer's block and low creativity

I'm an illustrator and writing is actually just a side hobby. When I do have writer's block (which is so often), I draw. But when I have art block at the same time, I try to watch things for inspiration or I go out on a walk. I'm planning to get back into playing piano too so I'm gonna use that for the creative juices.

Also, looking at your friends' stuff or discussing ideas with them can really get the creativity going!

I adore this fic! Which shouldn’t be a a surprise, it’s no secret that I love Sentiadrien Enemies AU. Adrien’s so worried about Marinette getting hurt, and wishes that he could help keep her safer, could tell her what’s really going on or get rid of the ring or something, but he can’t. Still, he IS able to find clever ways around some of his father’s more problematic orders. Loopholes for the win!

Adrien just wanted to gift his Lady some time off and hang out more with Marinette during the festive season - it didn’t exactly go to plan, but somehow ended up… better?

This was adorable! Chat Noir tries to give Ladybug a break by recruiting Multimouse to replace her on patrols for a bit, and Ladybug returns the favor by recruiting Aspik to replace Chat. Yep, it’s Snekmouse!

Almost everyone has a soulmate. What are Adrien and Marinette supposed to do when they meet theirs? ML Secret Santa gift for Mei! Merry Christmas! Thank you to Now Loading and Rewan Demontay for beta reading this fic!

So this is a version of soulmarks I haven’t seen before. Around age six, soulmates get a soulmark that shows what their soulmate is thinking when they first meet them. Though I guess it doesn’t register while transformed, since it only counts for this one when Adrien and Marinette meet as civilians, and not when they first meet as superheroes.

They didn’t remember each other. The hospital told them there’d been an accident—brain damage—but Alya had told them the truth, later. Who’d they’d been to each other. What they’d given up, and why. But even with their memories of each other gone, Adrien and Marinette are still inextricably tied together—by law, by their social circles, and by their hearts. And in the apartment they share, there’s only one bed.

Yep, it’s the “there was only one bed” trope XD! I especially love how it was used here, how Adrien and Marinette are strangers now but they had a whole life together, and they pine for each other even without remembering, and how Marinette just can’t believe how in love with her Adrien is even though he doesn’t remember her. I loved the emotional turmoil the two of them went through together in the fic, and the resolution, it’s great!

I loved the emotions here, how Adrien and Marinette reacted to the results of the pregnancy test, how complicated their feelings about it were - and how it prompted Adrien to take action. It’s a really sweet fic!

And then after discussing it for awhile, decide to make a bit of a game of the identity reveal, having Chat come in on pre-determined days and seeing whether Ladybug can figure out who she is, all while they get to know each other, even if in passing. 

Love the other Miraculous heroes making cameos as well, Marinette seems annoyed that Nino cosplaying as Carapace actually doesn’t tip anyone off XD.

This is really cute, Marinette gets transported into a world where she’s married to Adrien and is really confused as to why and how they got married at sixteen. Adrien’s just an adorable puppy who thinks his wife is the most amazing person in the world!

This fic is adorable, Adrien, Marinette, and Nino uncover that they all went to the same preschool together, with Adrien and Marinette immediately latching onto each other, Adrien being the knight to Marinette’s princess, and also making friends with Nino. Sadly he was pulled after two weeks, but it made quite an impression on him.

So a bit of an enemies au in that way, since Marinette doesn’t like him much. He does gradually manage to convince her that he’s a good person though.

Lovely world-building here! Merfolk and humans have had a treaty for a long time, so there’s a tradition where merfolk can challenge humans to a race, and whoever wins gets to ask for a reasonable sort of reward (in Marinette’s case, she wants to be allowed to captain a ship at a younger age than is usually allowed). Alya, Nino, and Adrien are naturally very encouraging towards Marinette, and luckily for her, a nice merman going by the name of Chat Noir shows up and challenges her to a race…

Yeah you can see where this is going XD. It’s fun, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Based on the song ‘About You’ by The 1975. Memory Loss. Told in alternating time lines, one leading up to and one dealing with the aftermath of Marinette relinquishing the Miracle Box and the guardianship. Marinette struggles with her life after losing her memory, though there is a persistent voice that calls to her that always seems just out of reach in her memory.

Beautiful memory loss fic here, with seeing Ladybug’s and Chat Noir’s relationship before she gave up the Miracle box, juxtaposed with the present day, when Adrien is only a stranger to her. I could really feel how Marinette was struggling with navigating these new circumstances, with her friends seeming to expect her to remember, to be who she was to them, to Adrien especially, before, and her just… not knowing whether she can do that. It’s got a happy ending though, for those who are concerned about that.

Ah, Fantasy Soulmate AUs, my beloved XD. This ain’t the only one of this fic type I’m gonna be recommending. This is just a cute fluff fic without much strife. I love Marinette and Chat Noir being able to be childhood friends via his visits, even if he has to pretend to be her cat whenever he comes over, and I ESPECIALLY adore Alya being his chaperone and quickly becoming friends with Marinette in her own right. It ain’t a complicated plot, but it is a nice and warm fic.

Stay Weird, Ladybug by @diadraws

Ladybug receives an invitation at the end of a patrol! Contains some of my own headcanons, most notably: MIRACULOUS HOLDERS ARE CREATURES!!! They get actual animal traits when transformed instead of just a costume. My tumblr is diadraws where I elaborate some more on my headcanons which may add some additional context to this fic if you are interested! CONTENT WARNINGS: *major* depictions of panic attacks, discussion of child neglect/abuse, and a minor emetophobia (vomiting) warning towards the end.

I’ve loved the comics and fanart I’ve seen dia create for this AU, with Ladybug’s and Chat Noir’s more animalistic designs, so reading a fic set in that AU was a real treat! It’s mostly just a Ladrien sleepover at Adrien’s house, but it’s very nice and cozy, with some good character development of Adrien helping Ladybug with panic attacks she keeps having.

Marinette lives a simple life - one surrounded by pretty dresses, fresh macaroons, and the calming view of Paris. It’s a life she thinks she has always fit in. And yet sometimes, when a certain boy comes by her shop with a flower and a new adventurous story, she can’t help but wonder if there’s something else she’s missing.

This was a truly gorgeous story. It’s the classic “Marinette gives up the Miracle Box and loses her memories” storyline, exploring her life two years later. Even though she’s had time to heal and recover, she still feels like she’s missing something, something big. At least Adrien’s stopping by regularly to tell her stories about Ladybug and Chat Noir, even if she doesn’t understand why they resonate with her so well.

winters were hard for even the best of vampires, but at least adrien had marinette to keep him warm with her cuddles. december was going to suck without her. so it was only to be expected to get extra cuddles in before she left, right? (well, not really, considering those heating supplements he was taking, but she didn’t need to know about that).

This one’s mostly just cute cuddly adorableness! It’s basically like all those “Marinette gets the Ladybug trait of needing to cuddle up to someone for warmth”, but with Adrien instead. And of course featuring Marinette being a very talented witch who just wants to help Adrien stay warm when she isn’t there XD.

This is just a sweet, fluffy fic about Ladybug and Chat Noir finding out they’re having a baby, revealing to each other, getting married, and becoming parents. Gabriel actually tries to do better here, as he does actually care about getting to know his grandchild, and realizes that he can’t undo this timeline without undoing his granddaughter’s existence as well.

When Chat Noir is tragically unable to attend an event with Ladybug, the mayor calls in a favor from a designer ‘friend’. Now she’s attending in style, on the arm of the hottest male model in Paris. Which would be fine if it weren’t for one, tiny issue: Paris’ favorite domestic terrorist now knows how Ladybug feels about his son. This leads him to his greatest plan yet, using Ladybug’s extremely obvious crush on Adrien Agreste to akumatize Chat Noir.

A Ladrien/“platonic” Ladynoir fic

This is adorable and hilarious. Gabriel keeps on “accidentally” releasing things which makes it looks like Adrien and Ladybug are a couple in an effort to make Chat Noir jealous, while Adrien and Ladybug ae just over-the-moon about getting to spend time together and finding out that the other person loves them XD.

After finally moving into his very first apartment per Ladybug’s suggestion, Adrien discovers something no movie or TV show could have ever prepared him for: someone else's hamster.

Marinette was so excited to have her first pet. If only it would stop escaping!

Funnily enough, this is based on a true story. Specifically, the author’s own experience of having her hamster run out and be found by a neighbor.

Anyway, this is adorable! Marinette and Adrien become smitten with each other extremely quickly, with Marinette’s hamster keeping giving them reasons to talk. Very effective wing-hamster, that one XD.

Adrien is a lonely child, cut off from the outside world by his parent's strict rules. But when he discovers a window in his closet and sees a young girl looking back at him like his reflection, maybe he has hope for friendship after all.

Poor Adrien here, he makes a long-time friend (who everyone thinks is an imaginary friend), and has several great years interacting with her as his parents grow more concerned with him not growing out of it... and then Emilie dies, Gabriel orders the window destroyed, Adrien’s put on medication to suppress his “hallucinations” (which also makes him forget Marinette) and he’s just kind of left like that for the next several years, until he’s an adult.

Luckily, while Adrien forgot Marinette, Marinette never forgot him, and he’s not too difficult to track down...

Miraculous Conception series by @ladynoirfanao3

Summary of the first story, The Power Of Creation:

Everyone knows that Ladybug's cure fixes everything after the destruction wrought by Shadow Moth's akumatized villains. After an akuma with an unfortunate power leaves Ladybug and Adrien in an awkward position, Marinette has never been happier to simply forget. However, she soon discovers that her miraculous ladybugs have a limitation on their curing ability, a limitation that puts her in a situation she never expected to be in.

So basically, Ladybug and Adrien run into each other just as an akuma makes everyone in the vicinity extremely horny, and when they both start remembering things again, they’re in a pretty... compromising position. But it’s just an akuma so they put it out of their heads, until Marinette discovers she’s pregnant and has to decide what to do about it, whether to keep the pregnancy, tell Adrien she’s Ladybug and is having his baby, what to do with the earrings when she’s too pregnant to be Ladybug, etc.

I really enjoyed it! Just watching Ladybug and Adrien try and navigate the situation, especially with secret identities thrown into the mix.

The main fics in the series are basically the same story, it’s just that the first one is from Marinette’s perspective, while the second one is from Adrien’s. The Power of Creation is rated M while the Power of Destruction is rated E, but for both fics it’s just rated that for a single sex scene that occurs in the fic (with it being the same sex scene in both fics, just told from two different perspectives).

you made me a hero - reverse crush short stories series by @non-fantasy

This series is just plain fun! Like the title says, it’s a reverse crush AU, so Adrien’s head-over-heels for Marinette, while Ladybug’s smitten with Chat Noir. Which means that Adrien’s constantly trying to woo Marinette while Ladybug’s attempting to have normal conversations with Chat Noir (and failing), and both of them are oblivious to each other’s feelings. 

I love the way non-fantasy executes it, with Alya literally carrying around a spray bottle because of how eager Adrien is, and Ladybug being VERY SCARY if you ever lay a finger on Chat Noir (seriously akumas will literally beg for their akumatized object to be broken just to escape her wrath). 

Oh, also, Ladybug regularly stops by Adrien’s room so they can both lament how difficult of a time they’re having wooing their crushes, and just have fun together.

There’s a lot of entries in this series - 29 of them in fact - but most of them are pretty short, making it great if you want to devour some quick, cute, hilarious romcom action! 

Some stuff does actually change over the course of the series, it’s not just slice-of-life. Like identity reveals, dating, and even Hawkmoth’s defeat, so there’s clear progression and changes in circumstances as well.

Dreams of You by @chocoluckchipz

Dreams had long been his only escape. Dreams of Ladybug, the girl who had always been there for him.

If only in his dreams. And only while she was also sleeping.

Because with the first rays of sunshine gliding over her skin, with the first fluttering of her eyelashes, from the moment she opened her eyes in the morning, memories of Adrien would vanish from her mind.

She would go on living her life.

He would always be the only one who remembered.

At least until they meet in the real world and fall in love all over again, something that would’ve been easier to do if Adrien wasn't a prisoner in his own home.

Chocoluckchipz has some of the most beautifully executed lovesquare fics I’ve read, and this is no exception. Most of the fic is dedicated to Adrien wooing Marinette, spending time with her, with her own dream self acting as his wingman, giving her tips on how to get her to fall for him, all the while frustrated that she can’t share memories with her waking self, and that she and Adrien can’t share as much information as they’d like while asleep, due to limitations of the “curse” that allows Adrien to share dreams with his soulmate. 

It’s not all cute Adrienette fluff though. There’s a threat in the background waiting to erupt, as the weirdness of Gabriel’s ultimatum to Adrien about finding Ladybug or else being forced to marry Lila keeps on gnawing at him - and with good reason. This is a world with magic and kwamis still, and that fact makes itself very relevant in the last third of the story. 

It’s a well-written tale and very much worth a read!

As they got to the bottom of the stairs, Adrien heard footsteps behind him, followed by the sound of someone tripping and a yelp that sounded like- Adrien turned on the spot and caught the falling Marinette in his arms. Her eyes were adorably scrunched closed, as if waiting for impact with the floor, before slowly opening and her gorgeous blue eyes (were they always this blue?) met his. ‘Hey,’ he greeted softly. ‘Hey,’ she replied with equal softness. ‘You okay?’ he asked. She smiled. ‘Never better.’ He couldn’t help smiling too. He spotted a stand of hair that had fallen into her face, but before he could move to tuck it behind her ear- ‘Adrikins!’ he heard from the other side of the courtyard. ‘Adrikins~!’ Marinette pulled herself out of his grasp. He missed her already. ‘Thanks for catching me.’ ‘Thanks for falling,’ his stupid mouth blurted out. He felt his cheeks flush again, and saw her cheeks tinge a pretty pink. As Marinette walked away, he heard Nino tutting. ‘You’ve got it bad, dude,’ he said. ‘Got what bad?’ Adrien asked, right before he got body-slammed by Chloé.

...I imagined that Chloé body-slammed Adrien with the force of a rugby tackle. Like, he is completely airborne for a moment kinda-style hug. His face pre-tackle "it's all okay~" vs. his face post-tackle is like "NOTHING IS OKAY OMG WHEN'D SHE BECOME SO STRONG???"

Adrien and Marinette both vaguely remember young playmates from when they were kids. Their first friend. Shame they didn’t remember each other’s names.

Marinette’s itching to win a prize for beating a merfolk in a race. Thankfully, a merman, Chat Noir, decides to challenge her. Pity that Adrien was busy that day.

Adrien finds a tiny, mousy guest in his new home, and makes a new friend.

Marinette helps lead a revolution to overthrow King Adrien with the help of her most trusted ally, Chat Noir. 

Ladybug and Chat Noir find a toddler wandering around during an akuma attack. Who could her parents be?

Chat Noir wrote a tweet mocking himself as Adrien. This totally does not come back to bite him in any way.

An akuma swapped Marinette’s and Chat Noir’s bodies. Marinette AS Marinette, not as Ladybug. This causes some problems.
