Dudleytown
I/ History II/ Troubles
I/ History
In England, during the 1500s, lived a man named Edmund Dudley who was financial advisor of King Henry VII. He was powerful and also, treacherous.
He embezzled king’s treasury and was punished by beheading.
Edmund Dudley had three sons.
One, John Dudley, Duke of Northumberland, tried to take the throne of England by marrying his first son to one Lady. They failed, and all three lost their heads. The second John’s son returned from France with the plague and died because of it. The third John’s son, Robert Dudley, decided to leave England.

John Dudley
John Dudley had a fourth son, John Sutton 1st Dudley who was an ancestor of Thomas Dudley.
Thomas Dudley was deputy governor of the important Massachusetts Bay Company. He had a penchant for power and conniving. He was a Puritan and he imposed his own beliefs on all people under his control. He despised Quakers, so under his command, lot of them were tried for various crimes and hastily executed. He died in Roxbury on 31 July 1653.
Thomas’s descendants settled, during 1740s, the area of Dudleytown (which is a part of Cornwall in Connecticut).
Then, things started going wrong, like if Edmund Dudley and his descendants had placed Dudley family under a curse.

II/ Troubles
● General Heman Swift, a Dudleytown resident, was away advising his superior officer, when his wife was killed by a bolt of lightning. After that, he went insane and had to be put away (some sources say that he was “slightly demented from age”).
● Dr. William Clarke built a stately mansion in Dudleytown only to watch his wife slowly go mad as she was besieged by ghosts/terrible creatures that seemed to be half men, half beasts.
● One time every 7 year since, men, women or children were mysteriously killed (drowned, suffocated, burned, clawed …).
Tumblr media
Soon enough, throughout the 1800s, people began leaving Dudleytown (as the local iron industry wound down). Ghosts were frequently sighted, as were the half man/half beast creatures that had driven some of previous residents insane.
● One day, a man named Brophy laughed at the idea that the place was cursed and declared his intentions to main.
Then his wife died of consumption, his children vanished and his house burned to the ground.
One night, Brophy entered into an inn in the adjacent township, muttering madly of creatures with cloven hooves.
«There is a story by the late horror writer H.P. Lovecraft that describes a one-beautiful valley suddenly and inexplicably ravaged – the crops dead, the trees naked and diseased, much of the land itself lost to a strange mist. Birdsong was no longer heard in the timbered hills nor could even moonlight make appealing the charred and ruined land.
It was as if the invisible hand of death had passed over the valley, rendering lifeless all it touched.
There was just the wind and the faint smell of death.» – Ed & Lorraine Warren
Tumblr media
In the late 1930s, hundreds of stories were reported to local sheriff. Stories about half men/half beast creatures that appeared in the mist, about “ear-deafening shrieks that were not quite human” and about some girls who could feel “inhumanly cold hands” that touched their bodies.
«There was a story about a seventeen-year-old boy who fought with some kind of monster deep in a ravine where he’d gone to relieve himself of the beer he and his girlfriend were drinking. All he could tell the sheriff was that the beast had eyes the color of blood and breath so foul the boy had to hold his own breath for much of the struggle. Huge hands clawed the boy across the face, inflicting deep gashes, and then heavy footsteps could be heard running away through the thick, shadowy underbrush.» – Ed & Lorraine Warren
  ● There is also a story about TV journalists who went there to make a report on Dudleytown. For them, all of these stories were jokes and teenagers’ imagination. But when they arrived on the top of the hill, circumstances changed suddenly.
“The female reporter sensed something in the air … a different quality, some sort of chill, to the air itself. Even the darkness seemed to have a different texture, to be darker than they were used to seeing and there were certain inexplicable odors …”
Before they could begin the report, the female reporter became suddenly ill and their equipment would not work. When they finally managed to make their report, they filmed any paranormal phenomenon.
Ed and Lorraine Warren investigated on this case, Lorraine said «A few years ago a motorcycle gang started going to the mountain above Dudleytown and performing satanic rituals there. So by this time the place has been infested (by demonic forces) for sure» and Ed goes on saying «If there weren’t demonic forces at work then… there certainly are now».

Bélmez Faces
I/ First appearances
     I-1/ Appearances
   I-2/ Investigation
II/ Second appearances
III/ Hypotheses
I/ First appearances
   I-1/ Appearances
Tumblr media
The story began in 1971 with the Pereira family who lived in a spanish village, Bélmez.
Ms. Maria Gomez Camara discovered on her kitchen floor a representation of a human face.
Tumblr media
First face
The family first tried to clean the floor, but when they found that it didn't worked, they decided to demolish the concrete slab and put a new one.
A short time passed before the face reappeared at the same place on the new slab. At that point, the family decided to seek help at the town hall. The town hall authorities reclaimed the slab.
During procedures, the authorities realized that other faces had appeared on the floor and walls.

Second appearance
   I-2/ Investigation
Bélmez authorities dug in the basement of the house and they would have found human bones. Indeed, the house was built on an old church and its cemetery where were buried teenagers beheaded during the Civil War. Unfortunately, no scientific study talks of this discovery.
The town hall has provided no information on the taken slab.
During 1972 (one year after the first appearance), the number of appearance of faces increased significantly (daily). Some disappeared, others have changed places. Since this, approximately 3000 faces have been identified in this house an it has been open to visitors.
Tumblr media
Investigation
Rumors say that the faces seem to change with the mood of the housewife. For exemple, during a stay in hospital, faces would shown, according to witnesses, an "expression of sadness.
In 1972, the German parapsychologist Hans Bender and Argumosa went on site to investigate. They had sealed the kitchen for three months and protected faces with a plastic tarp to check a possible hoax. Three months passed and, upon reopening, they found that several faces have moved and new ones have appeared. They also found traces of hands and claws.
Finally, their investigation brought no answer and they published any official document about it.
II/ Second appearances
Maria Gomez Camara died in 2004. After her death, a spanish parapsychologist, Pedro Amorós, began a new search on Bélmez faces. Maria Gomez's niece then discovered new faces in the birthplace of Maria, located 200 meters from the Pereira house.
But it has been proven that these faces were false, her niece wanted to open a museum with these faces to make money.
Although second appearances were proven to be false, the first have not been denied.
Tumblr media
Face appeared in 2004
III/ Hypotheses
There are actually two hypotheses :
The first is a scientific explanation which leads to say that it is the combination of water and fat liquid (like oil), mixed by someone or not, which would have highlighted these faces.
Second says it is the faces of the dead buried in the old cemeteries that appear and that this could explain why they do not fade away.
As investigations into the faces remained highly unclear and not totally official, no one has ever proved that these appearances were false.

Puymartin's White Lady
I/ The castle II/ White Lady
I/ The castle
Tumblr media
The Puymartin Castle is located in Dordogne (France). It was built in the thirteenth century (1270), destroyed during the "Guerre de Cent Ans" (1358) and rebuilt near 1450 by Radulphe (french friar) and Raymond de Saint-Clar who lived in.
Tumblr media
II/ White Lady
During the sixteenth century, Thérèse de Saint-Clar was caught with her lover by her husband, Jean de Saint-Clar (who suddently came back from war).
As punishment, she was sentenced to remain imprisoned for the last 15 years of her life, in a small room in the north tower whose door was locked out of service, where she died.
Tumblr media
   Thérèse de Saint-Clar
When Thérèse died in that room, her husband refused to give her a proper grave and she was buried in the wall of her prison, where she's probably still.
It has been claimed that the ghost of Thérèse de Saint-Clar, sometimes, wander at night around midnight, in white lady form, down the stairs, on the guard tour before entering the prison.
Puymartin's castle is open to visitors and some of them took pictures in which some think they see this white lady. Those who claim to have seen her, say that this white lady is not aggressive and is a beautiful young woman, sweet and evanescent.
