Islander Harpies are an ethnicity of harpy found around coasts on the tropics, particularly on islands. Unlike Continental Harpies, who compose the vast majority of other ethnicities, islanders are much smaller, weighing only half as much at most. They make up for this in length though, their long necks being an important part of their lifestyle.
Another difference between continentals and islanders is that islanders rarely hunt red meat, and are nearly entirely fishers. This depends from culture to culture and what their local ecosystem has to offer, but many islanders rely nearly completely on fish. They are far superior swimmers to any other harpy.
It's already typical for harpy cultures to be somewhat more blas茅 towards the idea of clothing compared to non-harpy sophonts, and islanders take that to another level. Most attire is a huge detriment when swimming, weighing them down and impacting their hydrodynamic form. Importantly, many cultures fish among reefs were many clothes are a drowning risk, able to easily snag on bits of reef and hold an unwitting harpy under. Most islander attire is, for this reason, designed to come off easily. Loose loops that can be easily slipped off, or carefully constructed sashes that easily snap apart when tugged on. Many choose to wear nothing at all.
Tumblr media
Islanders are relatively rare, a fair number of cultures having been driven from their homes during the prominent expansion era of the humanoids. Harpies at this time were still reckoning with being seen as savage animals by many humanoids, and this did islanders no favours in being treated with kindness by their colonisers. Reparations have been attempted in the modern day, but many agree there is a long way to go before islanders can be restored to their former heights.

Also, some fun additional thoughts regarding magic in Godforged.
I previously touched on how when magic infests a small part of a plant such as the fruiting body, it creates pixies. As an extension of that if it infests the whole plant you get a dryad.
I wanted to expand on that idea and say that magic can infest anything. Magic that infests inanimate objects creates mimics and constructs. Those skilled with magic can create these intentionally far easier than one could a pixie. Magic that infests animals manifests as various magical ailments and diseases. For example lycanthropy is a magic ailment.
Magic that infests a concept creates a god. This is typically occurs when magic is channelled into a concept through religion, spirituality and faith. This also means there can be different gods for the same concepts depending on who's interpretation of the concept it comes from. For example there are multiple gods of death for various sophonts due to the different species relationships and views on death as a concept. Dragonborn, who are long-lived, see death as a gentle rest after a hard life, the warm bed at the end of a long day, and as such their god of death is kind comforting. Humans fear death and see it as pain and tragedy, with their god of death being powerful and fearsome.

I swear I'm alive! Something I've been working on is redeveloping my older OCs Haelda and co into my Godforged worldbuilding project. So far I've just drawn Acathera and Haelda, but I at least know what I want to do for everyone!
Haelda is a Tenku from a wealthy family. Her father was absent her whole life, breaking up with her mother when he found out she was pregnant and was never seen again. Her mother passed away when Haelda was very young, and she went to live with her aunt, uncle and cousin. Her aunt and uncle always saw her as something of a burden and disliked her for a variety of reasons, which made home life difficult. She is kicked out upon turning 18 despite her cousin's attempts to smooth things over, and forced to find her own way in the world. She's not sure what she wants to do with her life yet, but probably something with animals.
Acathera is a human werecat from the city. Infected when she was a teenager she's honestly pretty chill about the whole thing, she thinks its kinda cool and would shift more often if it wasn't for it being a somewhat painful process. She works at a cafe in the heart of the city, and volunteers at a cat rescue on the side. She has an interest in medicine and nursing but thinks she's too dumb to try it out.
Chigo is a human-deer chimera from a small rural "community". The leaders had a strong obsession with chimeras and were illegally turning infants born in the community into chimeras. The cult was discovered and appropriately dealt with when Chigo was still very young, leaving them in foster care. Chimeric sophonts are very taboo, Chigo luckily passes as a Satyr but despite that had trouble fitting in and struggles with their self-identity. Their foster parents meant well but had a hard time with Chigo's identity and giving them the support they really needed. Chigo started volunteering at the library as a teenager, and pursues it as a career in tertiary education.
Hava is a karura from the same town as Haelda, and briefly even went to the same school as her when they were younger. He aspired to be an athlete and was showing a lot of promise, however an injury took him out of it permanently. He's an optimist though and didn't let that stop his love for sports, coaching kids games and studying sport science.
Jack is an elven shapeshifter who can turn into a dragon. He grew up in a somewhat close-minded town, and while his parents really loved him they had a hard time coming to terms with him being trans + gay, which made his teenage years turbulent to say the least. Developing a shapeshifter form was a way for him to both feel out his identity and deal with dysphoria + dysmorphia, as well as rebel against his parents. He spent nearly all of his time as a teenager in his dragon form, though these days is coming around to his human form again. He's currently in art school.
Midei is a dragonborn from a secluded mountain village that has limited access to modern technology. She eventually moves to the city because she wants to try out this whole "university" thing the youths do and learn to become a teacher. She is incredibly out of touch but sweet and tries her best to fit in, despite feeling like a fish out of water (in more ways than one).

I'm developing an ARPG!
To those unfamiliar with the concept ARPGs (Art Role Playing Game) are groups in which you draw/write about your characters for that group doing various things to take part in and complete various activities such as breeding, questing and fighting. Epoch is planned to feel overall similar to ARPGs such as Dracostryx, Kukuri, Primeval-Age, Souls-Between and others like these.
Epoch is an ARPG focused on extinct reptiles from Mesozoic Eurasia specifically, such as dinosaurs and pterosaurs. It will have a variety of fun features such as genetics and mutations, traits that influence performance in different areas and a unique approach to herd/pack groups and questing that aims to encourage players to develop the personal story of their animals. Epoch is being developed with a semi-realistic angle in mind, with the visuals and gameplay both being influenced by reasonable speculation for the species involved.
The first 6 species that will be available to players are ones specifically chosen that were important and influential to paleontological history: Velociraptor, Protoceratops, Megalosaurus, Iguanodon, Pterodactylus and Ichthyosaurus. More species are planned for later updates once the game is released.
I can't give any concrete dates on when Epoch will finally be ready to play, as it is still fairly early in development. While the bases are done there is still a lot of work to be done on the art side of things to get all the assets and guides ready, along with setting up the website that Epoch will be hosted on using the Lorekeeper framework. However I intend to update regularly on development progress over on this blog here @epocharpg so please follow if you want to see more about this project. I've already posted the first dev update over there!
In the meantime, here's a sneak peak of the bases for the starter species!

My last attack for AF 2023! I didn't do as many attacks this year as I'd hoped, but it was still a lot of fun. And I think I managed to end it all on a high note (with an FR dragon no less)
