Shout out to all the Black ppl that can no longer participate directly in the fandom they love because of the stresses of racism 👍🏾 you contain multitudes of value and I'm sorry that the color of your skin and the power of your voice makes people not want to acknowledge that.

I watched Damsel last night and I gotta say, the depiction of the dragon was immaculate. Like this is really inspiring stuff for a DM to pick up on.
Like it's the complete package. The flaming birds announcing her presence and apparent cruelty? Ohhhh and the fire breath itself was amazing. Like something between fire and napalm and how it melts the rock partially where it hits. This isn't something you can just put a shield up to, it'll ooze around and stick and warp the metal.
Moon above, the lair too. I feel like recent fantasy has kind of built up the expectation that you go through trap-filled caverns to get to a dragon's lair, which is where you actually fight her. But no the entire mountain is her lair in Damsel. You never know where she's going to turn up, her voice carries strangely, and there are few places she can't get to. Oooh how she just dives in out of nowhere at the "window" (iykyk), apex falcon behaviour. I fucking love that she probably could have just flown up the singing crystals or melted them with fire to end it, she keeps them intact. Like they're probably the only thing she could call entertainment for decades and it's not like it goes anywhere anyway. I don't know why but that's such a neat detail to me.
The whippy tail? Fantastic. The way she uses her wing to support a limp? Perfect. I love the twist on the dragon's horde too. It's just bits the princesses carried on them, brought back to the long-cooled golden albumen of her clutch. Fucking... the kingdom had more gold than her, but her horde was a hundred times more personally precious. It meant something other than wealth. And I bought it completely, Shohreh Aghdashloo's performance was so fucking feline and motherly in the same stroke. I never got tired of hearing her taunt and roar and even calmly speak.
The sheer show of power that was the firestorm, though. The actual height of her depiction. Wreathing the mountain in flaming clouds to rain cataclysm on the surroundings was incredible to see. That's the moment, right there. That's a fucking DRAGON. You think flyby fire breath attacks are what raining hellfire is? Cute. Here's Meteor III because I'm ticked off.
Actually perfect. I could spend the rest of my time talking about how the rest of the movie was kinda mid but I honestly don't care when it gave me this much Dragon.

I've just finished watching Damsel on Netflix and it's good! Like it is exactly what the trailer shows you - a Princess marries what she thinks is Prince Charming only to be used as a ritual sacrifice.
But it's not an unrealistic version of it with a Mary Sue and 2D characters. It's not easy for Elodie or painless, she certainly doesn't do it without help. Everyone else in it are actual people with selfish reasons for doing things and fallible.
It's not award winning or really trying to be anything other than what it is but it's good and the actors in it are amazing. Shohreh Aghdashloo plays the dragon in it! Her voice gives me shivers

It has now occurred to me that Elodi technically is ruler of that kingdom now since she married into the family, and is the only one left alive. I guess that was obvious, but I didn't realize it until now XD

okay so i just watched damsel on netflix and holy shit that was amazing!!!!! i gobble up stories about badass women overcoming insurmountable odds and fighting to survive (ellen ripley my beloved) and damsel pulled it off exceptionally
i love protagonists who actually get hurt and oh my god millie bobby brown can SCREAM like what the hell i knew you could do it as eleven, but never that viscerally holy shit
speaking of mbb, her performance was just fucking perfect— although the acting was iffy in other parts, she always nailed her performance throughout and sold elodie as a character so very exceptionally well, another kickass character
my one issue is the reviews, since i came off of the moving absolutely loving it and then wanted to see what other people thought and then a lot of the reception was poor… when it was from men (and on youtube)
i mean, i’m a man (that sounds grossly masculine) and i loved the movie so much
i am also a feminist so maybe that accounts for something
HOWEVER this is also why i love tumblr so much since i saw people who had the same reception i did and the validation dopamine started to flow in my brain
that’s all!!!! damsel is a 10/10

I just watched 'Damsel'. mostly because I knew Angela Bassett was in it.
But holy sh*t! This was the movie I didn't know I needed. Finally a fairytale where a woman saves herself. It wasn't perfect, but it was really good and effective in what it wanted to accomplish: a betrayed woman standing up for herself and fighting back.
I hate how this movie gets so many bad reviews over the fact that the woman saves herself, her family and other women. So called 'girlbossing'. What? Is a woman not allowed to fight for her life?
Let me ask you: When John McClane saved himself, his wife and a bunch of innocent people in the movie 'Die Hard'. Was this movie criticised over something called 'boybossing'? No, I don't think it was.
I wonder why?
Anyway, all of this to say that you should all definitely check out 'Damsel'. It's great entertainment.

never ever gonna recover from this movie btw. never ever gonna get over watching two women with different trauma realize their fear and hatred towards each other is the product of those who rule and that they were both victims. never ever gonna get over the bond that formed as they took down those that had hurt them. never ever gonna get over how the prince accepted his wrongdoings and therefore his death, while the queen was spiteful to the end. there's so much i liked about this movie, despite its flaws. give it a watch because there's other amazing things i didn't say about this.

"There are many stories of chivalry, where the heroic knight saves the Damsel in distress. This is NOT one of them."
Finished watching Damsel and I'm still not over it. A definite 10/10
