This is one of my favorite exchanges in the entire series, and since I’ve never seen anyone else do so, I’d like to discuss it.

Look at The Sphinx. Kendra doesn’t know his true identity, so he lets himself brag here, in his own quiet way, under the guise of being informative. He tells her how dangerous the Society of the Evening Star is, how dangerous he is, how patient he is. He goes so far as to compare himself to infinity. “And nobody can win a staring contest with infinity. No matter how long you last, infinity is just getting started.”

And then Kendra, innocent 14-year-old Kendra, without entirely realizing it, puts him in his place. “But they aren’t infinity,” she says.

And the Sphinx blinks. Infinity loses the staring contest.

Book Four: Dragon Slavery Is Bad Guyz But Stop Looking At It Look At Seth Be Sad. The Giants Are Going Get Killed For This So Don't Concern Yourselves With It. The Protagonists Don't Have Time To Deal With The Dragon Slavery.

Book Five: We Have Done Nothing To Confront Why The Dragon's Went To War In The First Place. Yay.

so, fablehaven/dragonwatch friends. I've got a fic idea, but im not sure if anyone would actually be interested in it. And I don't wanna spend time writing something if no one reads it

Ok with that out if the way. The idea is that post fablehaven book 5 pre dragonwatch. Kendra ends up back at the start of fablehaven book 2, in her body of that time. (Probably through some accident with the chronometer.) It would follow her having to fully understand what happened and them deal with the consequences. Would most likely follow her through the end of fablehaven and depending on how it goes. Maybe dragonwatch.

Reading KTTDP with Dragonwatch context drives me insane Bracken meets this kid who's trusting demons and trying to do the right things and he's basically looking at this Mini-Ronodin and he can't say anything or reach out because he is guarding his heart but he likes Seth and they are fast friends and can you just imagine the Impact when Seth reaches out and asks for help after Graulus betrays him. Can you imagine getting that chance to make up for not being there the first time. It makes me want to eat glass.

Seth lowered his sword to his side. “Are you going to kill all of us, Knox?”

Knox looked uncertainly at Newel. “I didn’t want to hurt anyone.”

[…]

“You don’t want to do this, Seth,” Doren said.

“The crown is getting hold of him,” Seth said. “It has some kind of power that makes him overconfident and greedy.”

“I’m out of here,” Knox said, stepping through the doorway.

“I have wings, idiot,” Seth replied. “You can’t run from me. Either finish this here or I’ll hunt you down.”

Knox came back into the room. “Help Newel,” he yelled. “I didn’t mean to hurt him.”

Seth stopped with the tip of Vasilis inches from Knox’s chest. The crimson glare lit their faces with devilish hues.

“Are you going to kill me?” Knox asked, voice quavering.

[dialogue for plot-related reasons here, but still the same scene as previous lines]

“You’ll have to stab me first,” Knox said.

“I want to,” Seth said. “But it might be more fun to change you into one of the undead.”

Knox blanched. “You can’t do that.”

Seth cocked his head. “Can’t I?”

“You’re a maniac,” Knox said.

“I could cut you to pieces right now,” Seth said. “I could rip that ridiculous crown off your stupid head, but I’m worried stealing it from you might fry your brain. What’s so hard about taking it off? Ask yourself that.”

oh these scenes are altering my brain chemistry. oh they ARE. how knox even with his brain muddled from the crown still maintained that he didn’t want to and mean to hurt anyone but how seth instantly goes for the throat. oh i have so many thoughts about this and no way to articulate them all because it’s driving me CRAZYYYYY
